Re: Breast Cancer a second time - and a brand new primary

Re: Breast Cancer a second time - and a brand new primary

Mayberrymagpie - I hope you are now fully recovered from your double mastectomy. Did you opt "for immediate implants, or going flat"?? Hope you're happy with your choice.

I had a L/mast 2006 - all went well and bounced back really well. Then found something on the other side, just before my 1st year revue, so ask for it to be checked out at that 1st year appointment. Quickly sent for ultrasound, where the doctor said it's just a group of cysts, nothing to worry about. Wouldn't have thought they were qualified enough to make any diagnosis, and gave me what turned out to be very false hope. Thankfully, my conscientious consultant was suspicious, biopsied underneath this "just a group of cysts" and found another new small primary tumour, 2007 - so just a year. Had another mast - did NOT "bounce back" at all. Smashed me to bits, so yeh, get your WTF!!

I'd have coped so much better if I'd had immediate recon, but delayed for 7 yrs due to ALL sorts of circs. Still not finished due to further All sorts of other circs I shalln't go into.

Deejakarta - I frankly cannot understand, am pretty shocked actually, at your onc's attitude in dismissing your 2nd finding rather than checking it out, considering your 1st history. And blam, it proved to be positive a year later. Am not at all surprised you were very understandably devastated. Hope you are okay now and remain so.

Lots of love,  Delly xxxxx

Re: Breast Cancer a second time - and a brand new primary

Hello there,

i know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosed the 1st time in November 2014 with stage 1 tnbc. Finished my treatment in 2016. Enjoy a happy life, freedom being healthy until bam i found a lump on my left breast in december 2019. Visited my onc and he said it was nothing. I was in denial and believed what he said. 14th october 2020 i had my 2nd BCS / lumpectomy and resulted in stage 2b er pr positive breast cancer with 2 lymph nodes affected. I am devastated as hell and finally now accepting that this is reality. Staying positive is the key

Re: Breast Cancer a second time - and a brand new primary

I was diagnosed in 2019 with stage one invasive ductal carcinoma in my right breast. I had a lumpectomy and radiation and I take an estrogen blocker. I tolerated everything really well and only missed two days work. A month ago, I was diagnosed with stage one invasive lobular carcinoma in my left breast. I am scheduled for a double mastectomy on August 28 but am undecided about having immediate implants or going flat.

I understand the tendency to say WTF about having breast cancer twice. The second time has hit me so much harder than the first. I wish I had tips for how to cope, but I'm not there yet. My heart goes out to you for your ordeal. You obviously are a very strong person.
