Re: We are aware of spam posts sent overnight

Hi @Simpson, if you mean you cannot find the private message that was spammy, that's ok, and that's probably because the users who sent them were banned.

Re: We are aware of spam posts sent overnight

Coming to this late in the day but I too got the email about Bitcoin. Because it was not a private message after all but pure rubbish, I deleted straight away. However, didn’t get to see the name of the sender...

Hi Bernard,

My message was from HarperDavis.  I have deleted it and not clicked on any links.  As someone said above, the giveaway was the $ sign!

Thank you for all your hard work.

Re: We are aware of spam posts sent overnight

Hi all

We thought we’d give you an update on what our team has been working on.

We realised that late last night a number of spam accounts were created. These spam accounts sent a number of private messages to many Forum users.

- We have banned all these spam accounts, and blocked the domains they used to create accounts.

- We activated a rule that only allows access to private messages to users who have posted at least two posts. This means users cannot send private messages as soon as they open new accounts.

- We have been in touch with the platform provider to let them know of this incident.

We don’t currently have reason to suspect a personal data breach but we will continue to investigate. The incident involved unauthorised creation of dummy accounts to use the Forum Private Message function.

We’ve been busy dealing with this issue and reassuring users, and we are very grateful to everyone who has been supportive.

From people’s messages today it is clear that the Forum is an important space that means a lot to many. We will be working to keeping it a safe, welcoming space for all.

Best wishes from the team at Breast Cancer Now

Re: We are aware of spam posts sent overnight

Hello, I too received one of these spam emails. It was about bitcoin money, and I promptly deleted it. I was excited to get a private message as had just returned from my pre ops, with the green light to go, and found it so unpleasant that someone had thought to target us on this forum. We come here for support and to give support, and I have been greatly supported too.

Dear @yirg and @Guest user

We don’t currently have reason to suspect a personal data breach but we will continue to investigate throughout the course of the day.

The incident involved unauthorised creation of dummy accounts to use the Forum Private Message function.

I agree we need to be assured of that, although to be honest I suspect there has been.

Can you confirm that there has been no data breach?

Good to know that you are already aware of these spam messages. Just to let you know that I also received one of these last night - from a Victoria Jackson - and will just delete it as you have said to do.

We are aware of spam posts sent overnight

Hi everyone

We are aware a number of Forum users have received spam posts overnight.

Please do not click on any links, and delete any emails received.

Here is what we are doing:

1. banning these spam accounts

2. deleting any public messages they may have posted

3. replying to the many of you who reported these messages

We want to keep our Forum a safe place, and we will be looking into how these messages were sent, and what we can do to prevent it from happening again.

You can call our Supporter Care team on 0333 20 70 300 if you'd like to discuss this further.

Thank you for your support

Bernard
