Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Kerry
Like you it is my first time on this site. I noticed my nipple had inverted and had a slight discharge.i went to my GP .the next day I had a phone call from the hostpital.with an appointment this is quite normal as the guidelines are you be seen within two weeks.Which is a good thing.i went last week and a very nice DR took a slide of the discharge and then I had a mammogram and then an ultrasound scan non of it was painful.i go again tomorrow for results of the. Slide he explained what the next step would be depending on the result so I am keeping my fingers crossed.i try to do a day at a time.dont worry too much about your first visit its not that bad at all and more ofton than not a lump is just a cyst.just one thing prepare to be there about three hours as there is a wait between each department .Hopefully you will only need one visit Good Luck 333

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Katie, there not the nicest thing to have done but suppose they need to just to be sure. Painful now anaesthetic wearing off!!
He sounded quite positive saying he thought it was a benign lump but just needed to ensure this with the biopsies, surely he wouldn't have said that if he wasn't sure?
Really impressed with how quickly I get the results, it's fab. Hopefully I can put it behind me on Thursday.
Xx

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Kerry. Bet your glad that's over and done with? Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought and great you don't have to wait long for results! I had to have 5 biopsies taken and wasn't prepared for that lol.

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Thanks everyone for your support and advice. As you can imagine I did not sleep much last night, feel physically sick this morning! I am trying to stay positive but the mind plays awful tricks on you....at least I will know a little more today and I can move on or at least know what I have to fight with.
I will of course post on here later with whatever news I have, hopefully good news. At least I have age on my side and hoping it's just fatty tissue. The lump is in the upper outer quadrant...doesn't really hurt but does ache but not sure if I am just imagining that! Xxx

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Forgot to add.. Please do not apologies for asking questions.. Fire away.. This is why this forum is here and I have fired off soooooo many questions and got reassuring replies x

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Kerry. Please do not worry. In a way at least you know you are one step nearer to knowing what is going on. I had a mammogram when I was 29 so automatically thought that is what they do now. From looking at the posts it's looks like US can spot more detailed changes than mammograms. I too took my husband with me and he was a great help. The US does not take long at all. 5-10 mins. Please, please do not worry. If you are having just a US, it will not take long at all and they can tell a lot from that. I recently had a mammograms because of my age, in fact I am under 50. Got called back which is quite normal, then had further mammo, ultra sound, and biopsies
So I know the waiting game. At least this time tomorrow you will know more. Again please don't worry. Most, and I mean most, lumps are benign so hold on to that thought. Let us know how you get on. I do know exactly how you are feeling right now. Remember, you have age on your side!
Big hugs
Katie x

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Kerry, you are probably having an ultrasound rather than a mammogram because of your age. Younger women have denser breast tissue which often makes mammograms difficult to read, ultrasound gives a clearer picture with dense tissue. The radiographers are very skillfull and can often tell if a lump looks suspicious or not, however they are not authorised to tell you but many throw out very large "hints". Sorry I can't tell you how long you will be at the hospital, that depends how busy they are, but the ultrasound itself should take no more than 5-10 minutes. It's great that your husband is able to go with you, the support will certainly help. Do let us know how you go on, very best wishes Pat x

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Katie,
My doctor said I will be having the scan didn't mention the mammogram, I presumed you had to be above a certain age for mammogram but reading the posts on this forum I think not.
I am really worried which is normal...the only thing I think about is the lump! Will they have an idea what it is just by the scan?
My husband is coming with me for support which is good...appointment at 11.00 so will let you know.
How long will I be at the hospital?
Sorry about all questions.

Re: 1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi Kerry. Just thought I would give a quick reply. Are you having a mammogram as well? This doesn't really hurt, more uncomfortable than anything and over in a few minutes. The ultrasound doesn't hurt at all. Bit like when they scan you when you were pregnant only they do it over your breasts! Sometimes they gat a cancelled appointment which they need to fill so contact via phone to save time. It is only natural to feel anxious and all thoughts go through you mind but you will get thru it . Positive thoughts for you tomorrow. Let us know how you get on.
Katie

1st Appointment ar breast clinic

Hi,

This is my first time on this forum.

I noticed a lump in my left breast 10 days ago just by accident really, I went to doctors whom confirmed the lump and said probably nohing to worry about but he will refer me to clinic for ultrasound scan.

I was surprised to get a call from the hospital at 9.00am the following morning confirming the appointment, I presumed it would just be sent out in the post!

The time is nearly here and my appiontment is tomorrow and I am so scared, I never thought I would feel this nervous. I think we all presume the worse outcome and it is very difficult to be positive.

I have read lots of fantastic posts on here and it does help knowing alot of other people are also going through it at the moment.

I am 34 years old and have a fantastic supportive husband who is coming with me tomorrow and we have 2 beautiful children 10 & 5.

Just wondering if anyone else out there recently been through this procedure....just not too sure what to expect.

Thanks to you all, this is a brilliant website.
