As much support as I have no one can begin to understand how it feels to be told you have cancer. Especially at my age after being told numerous times by doctors that my lump was just breast tissue, I had to push for the biopsy, the hospital weren't going to do it unless I really wanted it done, they believed it was nothing. Luckily I was sensible and asked for it to be done 'just in case' I had an MRI scan yesterday which was an experience in itself, now I am very anxious about my results. I am praying that the cancer has not spread. It's always been my biggest fear to have cancer in an organ. As stupid and outrageous that sounds i have always feared it. I have been briefly told about chemo and a mastectomy both of which scare the life out of me. I just cannot wait to be able to say I BEAT CANCER!!! But I know it's a long way away yet!

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

That sounds really promising that it's 18mm and clear arm pit. They class early stage bc as less than 20mm I think. Mine was 17mm and like I said I had 3 nodes affected. If you want to know more now you've had time to adjust a bit more. Call your Breast care nurse. She'll have your notes and will answer any questions you have. I had a few more days to adjust to getting the "news" at my scan they didnt reassure me at all. They didn't say they def thought it was bc but they just said we'll know more when the results are back & cancelled my follow up appointment which was over 2 weeks away & said they'd give me a call. That was a Monday on the Friday I called & the receptionist said my results were being reviewed by the multi disciplinary team on wed morning and they wanted to see me after in oncology. That's when I knew! So I went into my appointment with lots of questions. I came out knowing it was grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma and it was triple negative but only 17mm. You need to get onto the group. You'll get so much more support esp as we are all younger, many of us have kids, some are pregnant. But we're all in it together. Set up your pm & pm me. I'm halfway through my chemo now I've had 3 sessions of fec type chemo and im just about to start my tax type chemo which I'll also have 3 sessions of x x

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Ah ok I will try and set private messages up.
I went to the hospital a couple of weeks ago, doctor had a feel of the lump said he wasn't concerned but would send me for a scan to be sure. The doctor doing the scan said she wasn't sure what it is so did a biopsy. I went back to see the first doctor again about 15 minutes later who said he didn't need to see me again as they were pretty sure it's just fibrous and confident it was not cancer. I then got a phone call last tuesday asking to go in on the Wednesday morning. I knew straight away it was bad news otherwise he wouldn't have wanted to see me. All he would say is that it's cancer, he said that's enough information for one day and that we won't know want thing else until I have all scans done and results back. I was obviously quite upset and the nurse did mention that during the scan I had on the day of biopsy that it's in my notes that my armpit was clear but I suppose we won't know for sure yet. I went to my local doctor and asked what size it was as she had my mammogram results and she said (I think) 18mm. I glad they managed to get yours out and sorted. How much more chemo do you need? X x

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

I think you need to set up private messages. They'll want a whole picture of what's going on before they start your treatment. You'll probably get all of your results in one day (about a week after your scans) theyll have a multi discipline meeting between oncologist, surgeons, radiographers ect and they'll decide the best course of action based on what they are dealing with. Don't be tempted to compare your treatment with anyone else's we are all different. What do you know so far. Have they given you a grade & type. Have they discussed what they already know from your (I'm guessing you had an ultra sound like me & biopsy) ultra sound with regards to tumour size & lymph nodes. don't put anything on here if you don't want to. The feelings you have are perfectly normal we call it scanxiety in the group. I can't say there's no way it's spread but the possibility that it's untreatable is extremely slight. My tumour was 17mm and had spread to 3 of my lymph nodes. Which was fine they whipped the lot out & I'm now halfway through my chemo to mop up any stray bits. Your reassurances will come when you have your scan results until then you have to go through this awful bit of not knowing, believe me when I say this is the hardest bit once you know and you have a plan & you know what your treatment will be you'll feel more empowered x x

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

It really is a scary time, the not knowing is horrible, I wish they could do all the tests and get the results sooner so I know what's to come and what I'm dealing with. Yes I had a mammogram on the day I was told and I now have appointments for a bone scan, ct scan and mri scan. It's hard not to think the worse as much as people keep telling me I will be okay. I'm so scared that it's spread. I clicked on you're profile but there is no option to pm you? X

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

I'm 31 and was diagnosed in October. Grade 3 stage 2b triple negative. I have a 7 year old and my latest addition was only 11 months old at dx. It was a scary time and lots of negative thoughts happen as you don't have any answers. The scans will help find those answers. On the day of my diagnosis I had a mammogram. Then about a week later I had a Breast mri & a ct scan. That's all very normal they need those scans to work out your best course of treatment. Believe me when I say the beginning is the worst part. It all gets easier once you know what you are dealing with. If you click on my profile name it'll give you the option to private message me if you want to. There is a secret group for younger people diagnosed with bc it's been a complete lifeline for me but I can't discuss it on the open forum here

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi dmcf. Thanks for the reply. Im new to this site and not sure how to private message? Im so convinced its not going to be treatable. Ive never been so scared. Did you have lots of scans too? The only time ive been in hospital was when i had my little boy so im a bit worried about the scans, although like i say my biggest worry is its spread and not treatable. I cant stop crying and thinking the worse. I cant get my head around why me? im only 26 years old, i thought i had the rest of my life ahead of me and now my world has come crashing down. it breaks my heart the thought of leaving my boy x

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi, ive read a few threads on here over the past couple of days and finally brought myself to write on here. I'm 26 years old and last wednesday i was told i have breast cancer. Ive got 3 different scans next week then the week after ive got an appointment to go back and get all my results to find out how bad it is, if/where its spread and what the treatment plan will be. I've got a 3 year old boy and im terrified im going to be told its spread and theres nothing they can do. Ive got a great family support but everyone keeps telling me im going to be fine and all i want to do is shout back 'but you dont know that!'. I'm so scared.

I hope everything is going okay for you, would be great to chat to someone the same age going though the same thing x

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi jodiebeeee

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I am 28 and was diagnosed on the 1st of October - I've only just registered on here as hadn't really seen anything for younger people before your post.
I've had a mastectomy - my choice but the right one it turned out and am now going through chemo.

How are things progressing for you?

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi Jodie

sorry to hear of your diognosis.  I was diognosed aged 23 earlier this year (april) I had an oesetrgen positve heceptin negative grade 2 with lymph nodes involved there was 10 cm of the breast affected. I had 11 positve lyph nodes involved. When i was 22 i was told i had fibre tissue lump and no biopsy, an investagation propmted by me has recently revaled I was misdiognosed and should of been diognosed aged 22 and i would of had no lymphs involved.Im very angry .Us young women should be taken seriously. I had t fec chemo 6 sessions and a double mastectomy (my choice) with implant based recon and then 15 radiotherapy sessions to a larger area due to lymph involvement. I wont tell you to be positve as I hate it when people say that tome as positivity doesnt fight cancer its drugs and surgery tat do  and I find it disrespecful when people say someone has lost their fight as if they didnt fight hard enough and its there fault. I just waant you to know that although raare it does happen to some really young girls like you and me and somehow we get through it and try to find some sort of peace with it and find a new normal

best wishes xxxx

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi Jodiebeee,
I'm 27 and was diagnosed on the 13th of November.
My cancer has only spread to my lymph nodes and thankfully not anywhere else. I'm looking at 5 months of chemo then a mastectomy / reconstruction.
I agree with you on the MRI wait - the week from my initial diagnosis to my formal one was pure hell. Waiting for results is the worst.
How are you getting on?

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

Really feel for you, I'm 39 and was diagniosed 6 months ago.

My doctor  also insisted  that my lump was just normal breast tissue and was so flippant about the whole thing it was unreal. She actually got quite short tempered with me when I told her I "just knew" something wasn't right.

I also had to push for a referral to the hospital even with a strong history of breast and ovarian cancer in my family.

Wishing you the best of luck babe.

Re: 26, diagnosed with breast cancer

I'm a bit older at 33 but just had 8 rounds of chemo and double mastectomy on Thursday. There is a secret Facebook group which us extremely active but I know we're not able to advertise it on here. Sadly this forum is pretty quiet for younger people. If you want more info pm me (I think I'm allowed to say that!) and I can give you details, it's a secret group so nothing shows up on your public fb.
