30yr old cyst and calification reported normal

I’m 30 years old. In June 2016 during yrly check up, I asked my dr. About lumps on my left breast, she said it was normal; however she directed me to my right breast and told me to keep an eye on the area. Fast forward to Dec 22 2016, self exam I find a nonpainful lump in the area she spoke of, Go to the Dr. She says it’s a palpable breast lump orders diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. Jan 4 at the clinic during ultrasound, the tech located the lump on the ultrasound and said the radiologist would be into speak with me. The Dr. Comes in and starts performing the ultrasound himself. He said he thinks this could be a cyst or fibrodenoma and there is nothing to worry about this happens with women at my age but mentioned califications on mammo, but I wouldn’t need another mammogram till 40. I didnt ask questions because i didnt know what to ask.Today I get the mammo results and they report mammo and ultrasound as normal. I’m confused shouldn’t the cyst be looked into? I know I need to speak with my obgyn about the results, but I’m not satisfied with not knowing what the heck this lump is. Am I freaking out or do I need to be persistent? I’m wondering if it’s being over looked due to my age.

hi Charleston,
hmmmm, I think you’re right. The dr says he ‘thinks’ it’s a cyst, but you definitely need this confirmed, although, of course, its good the results came back as normal. I would also want to have ‘calcifications’ clarified.
Are you in the US, btw, as our processes are a bit different in the UK.

I am in states. It seems that the US takes a non proactive approach when it comes to young women and breast cancer. I think if my referring physician can’t give me further details as to what the actual mammo film or radiologist notes says about the lump, then I will insist on a 2nd opinion. Are palpable lumps normally biopsied, to make sure that abnormalities aren’t present?

What happens here is, we are referred by our gp (family dr) to a specialist breast clinic where all the investigations are done in one appointment. A biopsy is done if a Definite diagnosis cannot be confirmed by ultrasound & mammogram.
It sounds like all’s well, but I think you are right to get a 2nd opinion.

Thank you for your comments and reassurance about a 2nd opinion.
