A Weighty Problem?

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Well the scales don't seem to moving a great deal at the mo - either they are stuck or the champagne I have drunk to wet the baby's head is more fattening than I thought!!!
Seems like my daughter will have lost more weight than me this weekend too!

Merry Christmas to you all xxx

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Back down to 11st 13.5 lbs today, so I am chuffed! I am having a day off, but am determined I am not sabotaging myself this week and am going to be positively angelic
However, this is more because I have a Drs appointment on Friday and she will be quite rude - last time she just went "hmm, you've lost a couple of pounds but it's not great shakes is it?". She doesn't believe anything I tell her about my diet or going to the gym and seems to think I spend all day eating crisps, cakes and chocolate. When I say I go to the gym she retorts maybe I should try going for a walk - she basically just gives me all the advice that ticks the boxes on the computer and I know GPs get paid for that.
Sadly, all of them in my practice are the same.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Just checking in... wieghing in Sunday. Cherub it is strange isnt it? I found that some of my clothes fit better than they did last year despite no weight loss - I wonder if it is fluid retention of some sort to do with the steroids?
Mazzalou, I didn't have Herceptin, maybe thats why I only had one MUGA scan. I had it just before 1st chemo - according to the result I shouldn't even have been able to walk across a room without getting breathless, so had to have and ECG with Ultrasound. They found a minor weakness in the left ventrical (I think). This meant I couldnt continue with FEC as Epirubicin can cause heart muscle weakness and instead had TC.
Hi Peacock, welcome x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Are you sure that you are not wearing a really good uplift bra Cherub that is pushing it all upwards and outwards?
I like the 'soft flesh' thing.
Welcome on board to the 'Movers and Losers' Peacock - the more the merrier! Where do you live then?

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Please can I join in???

I am desperate to lose some weight but I know I have no motivation, and especially as Christmas is coming soon I don't want to cut back too much. Being a diabetic I can avoid sweet things easily, but I like to have a drink so I think that is my problem of the lbs and the ££££'s, well euros in my case as I am not an English resident.

Happy days to everyone and good luck to those who have started the diet binge already, I'm soon to join you xx

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Got another pair on today that are too big at the waist now, this is a black pair I wore to an Xmas party last year and struggled to get done up. However, I still don't think I've lost and am terrified of weighing myself tomorrow. Maybe the fat is just moving to other places?
Had to laught at the Ideal World shopping channel selling shapewear last night - the presenter never mention fat once, referring to it as "soft flesh"

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Sounds like a great pair of jeans, Cherub! Perhaps I should put them on my Christmas list!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

I put 2lbs back on last week and can't work out how I did it. For starters I am not touching any food to do with Christmas; I don't have any parties to go to (sad, lol) and I've decided I can let off steam Xmas Eve / Xmas Day only. This week I've cut out spuds and rice, so I'll be interested to see the scales on Saturday. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get to the gym since being on holiday as we're working flat out so we can have 2 weeks off.I've rejoined SW online until March.
Weird thing is, I put a pair of jeans on today that I haven't had on for a couple of weeks and I can practically pull them up to my chest and get my hand down the back - why no loss then??????

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Re herceptin: I had my treatment at Christie and had one "baseline" echocardiogram at the beginning (December) and only two scans during the treatment, both after the chemo had ended, one in July and one in October.
I am fat as a pig. I can't quit eating Christmas goodies. Maybe I need some teeth pulled?
Now my Herceptin has ended (yesterday, hooray) I need to figure out how to get my eating under control. I don't know why I am struggling so much, but I am.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Was it really necessary to resort to such drastic action Lottie - at the very least you will have lost the weight of a tooth!!!
As for my treatment Nannabarb, I finished my herceptin at the end of September and my wonderful hospital are very hot on Muga scans and would never have only done 1. My readings were 87, 80, 77, 76, 74 and 74. I know all hospitals are different but you are supposed to have them carried out every 5 doses of herceptin. I had extra as my treatment had to be stopped for a few weeks as I had to have another, totally unrelated, op half-way through, but at the very least I would have had 5 carried out at the WSH. You may want to ask why you haven't had any more since your first one.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Well ladies this morning I had a tooth out and a root filling so if I dont get a weight loss this week as I can only eat slop I shall give up !!!!!!!

x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hiya, late post this week, but did manage to weigh myself at weekend, - and - 2lb LOST Yippee !!!! So the bad back and exhaustion from moving were worth it.
Mazzalou, 6 MUGA scans ??? How far are you along with your treatment/recovery? I only had one at the start of chemo, and not since, even though they found a very minor defect.
Chins up ladies, looking forward to Xmas x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Una
Yes I have a soft spot for the WSH as both my son and daughter were born there, my husband has had 3 hip replacements there (no he is NOT Jake-the-Peg with the extra leg!) as well as my BC treatment to name just a few of their services that we have availed ourselves of over the years. My daughter expects her 1st baby on 19th Dec and is booked in there too.
My treatment there has been exceptional - 6 Muga-scans in total - and the staff in the MAcMillan unit are wonderful as are the rest of the Breast Care team and not forgetting my magnificent surgeon. Please freel to message me - where do you live?
Poor you, Lottie - can't even blame it on the Baileys then? At least chocolate is high in iron so will help prevent you from becoming anaemic!!!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Haha Mazzalou you know me already 🙂 But alas no baileys last week or this as brought on the hot flushes as well as the lbs .... Im not sure where I went wrong but I did lol, tbh this weeks not started good as had choccie bar tonight but Im finding it so hard with the cold weather Brrrrrr I need fuel he he

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi all
Another one who started off with good intentions but struggling a bit with cutting out the preChristmas treats - ho hum, will have to be extra good in Jan as still nursing ambition to shift a good few pounds before my hospital check- up in April!
thanks for starting this thread Mazzalou. Think I saw on another thread you have the same hospital as me - West Suffolk - and probably the same lovely onc who makes you copious notes. Have felt really well looked after there.
good luck to everyone on the healthy eating journey.
Jude

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Are you srue that you haven't been downing too much of the old Bailey's instead of food on your 2 days?

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Mazzalou
Im the same even on the 2 day fast diet !! Sure is confusing this dieting malarky lost 2lbs last week did everything the same this week and no loss that cant be right 😞 Hey ho its christmas soon so im not getting to het up cos I KNOW im gonna put weight on then ..... just more to lose new year , I really must be a good girl in 2013

Love to all x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

A tiny tiny loss but still a loss. It is a tough time of the year to lose weight with all those goodies everywhere. I can't resist.
Zeppa, I hope the gastroenteritis is now behind you (pun not intended). Welcome to the group. This is the only place where I don't mind being called a loser.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Nothing to report this week I'm afraid as I have remained static. Perhaps I'm stagnating!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

I'd love to join this thread but I never lose any weight - in fact, I have been gradually putting it on all year. Fortunately I finish the anti-hormone tablets in September 2013. I hope I can lose weight better then rather than being completely past it. I hobble around a lot but I try to go swimming once a week.
However, I have just lost over half a stone with gastroenteritis, which is quite nice. Not sure whether to recommend it though.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Lovely to see more joining us .... dont forget ladies..... LITTLE PICKERS WEAR BIGGER KNICKERS

Love to all x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

I maintained the same weight when I went on the scales at the weekend, but at least I didn't put anything on.Just wish I could get about 4 more pounds off for the hols.
However, I can now confirm that I can put a pair of jeans on and pull them off without having to unzip them (OH is doing the same as he is sticking to this with me). I guess I must be heading to size 14 territory and I haven't had a 14 in jeans since I was a mature undergrad 17 years ago
As you may already know, we work from home in a converted spare bedroom. A couple of weeks ago I took the decision to ban items like tracky bottoms from the workplace, it now has to be smart casual or nothing and I put some makeup on, but we allowed a dress down Friday . It seems to be working for my body confidence and I have rediscovered all sorts of things at the back of the wardrobe I hadn't worn for ages.
My salvation at the moment is Muller Greek Style fat free yogurts and the odd mini choc bar. Oh is already talking about not overdoing it at Christmas, well isn't he just Mr Virtuous?

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hiya, sorry I've not weighed in this week, haven't managed to find my scales yet in the mega housemove I've just done, but if I haven't managed to lose this week with all the extra excersie I've had, I never will lol xxx

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Welcome to the 'movers and losers' Joan. As they say, 'a moment on the lips - a lifetime on the hips'!
6.5lbs in 5 weeks is good going but we are much cheaper than Weight Watchers!
All useful and helpful hints welcome please.
Off to do my 30 minutes penance on the cross-trainer now so see you soon

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hello ladies
Just stumbled on this thread and thoght I might join in, if that's ok? I put on about a stone while having treatment, so I am trying to lose weight too. I started at weightwatchers about 5 weeks ago and have lost 6.5 lb. Not been for the last 3 weeks though, other things have got in the way! I am also on Tamoxifen, but am hopeful that I can shift a few more pounds.
My weigh in day is Thursday at ww but I am not goign this week again as I am going out for dinner on Thursday. Good luck ladies in your weight loss quest! One thing is for certain, its much easier to put on than to lose!
Joan x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi all,
Caroline60 I have messaged you x , Mazzalou it really is not that hard the IT diet as its only 2 days so I think about the days I can eat normally 🙂 but this time of year makes it impossible to stick to over the christmas period I am trying to do well over next few weeks so that I am lighter before I eat the mince pies, xmas pud etc etc and then I will just have to start again lol , Open access went well good old natter and off on my merry way , hey ho just the 1st mamogram to get through now in Feb , oh well hopefully the breasts will be a bit smaller by then with all the weight I will have lost lol and it may not hurt quite so much 🙂

Love to all x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Stayed the same this week, must try harder, well done to all losers,
Di.x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Too right Jayne - I should be 10 feet tall!!!
Good luck to you, Caroline60 and when you have finished your chemo, rads and herceptin you too will feel 10 feet tall - just like the rest of us here who have had the 'Full Monty' treatment just like you and who have come out the other side - even if somewhat heavier than when we started!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

My sister lives near Bromley so I am often over that way, used to live there myself many moons ago!

Anyway ladies, as I have often said, i am not too fat, just too short, guess that applies to many of us!!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Lottie, Iv looked at your posts and relise I live close by in Bromley. Iv been newly diagnosed and had surgery first, Awaiting my start date for Chemo, Herceptin and then rads. You sound upbeat and positive.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Well done on losing your 1st stone Lottie so don't be too hard on yourself.
I'm going to try the IT (intermittent fasting) diet for a couple of weeks to see how it goes although 500 really isn't much so I may exceed it slightly as don't want to keel over on the cross trainer!
By the way,as for being vertically challenged at 5' 2" Jayne and 5' 3" Lottie I can look down on you both from my lofty height of 5' 4"!!!!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Jayne
I am 5ft 3 and put on 2 stones whilst on chemo so as you can quite imagine not a particulary pretty sight, a rugby ball sort of shape comes to mind lol , I have managed to lose nearly a stone of chemo weight so 1 more to go if possible but I am not going to make myself miserable doing it as been through enough this year me thinks ... all the time I am ok on the fast/diet I shall carry on if it gets to me I will have a break, good luck hun with your treatment

x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Lottie

I will be interested to see how you get on, I am half way through chemo so being realistic my focus on weightloss will be in the new year - apparently they are bringing a 2 Day Diet book out in Feb with all the details receipes etc so that might just motivate me to shift the extra - I am 5'2' and 3 stone overweight so in serious need of a diet at the end of this, just trying not to gain at the moment.....

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Mazzalou/ladies
Well I am trying the 2 day fasting diet and it certainly works as lost 2lbs this week and its really not that hard at all , If you set yourself 2 days that suit you , I do mon & Weds , you can have 500 calories in that day and no more , I have been having a banana for brekkie, low cal soup for lunch and then another soup or weetabix for dinner or a plated of veggies and tbh I am a bit peckish but its really not as hard as I thought , so I shall continue for as long as my willpower allows lol , if you get really hungry on it try drinking water it fills you up , do be prepared to be a tad windy though , lol sorry its not going too well for you vercors but dont make yourself miserable its not worth it x well done Mazzalou even with non-lo scales you lost !!

Love to all Janice x
Ps Open access appointment tomorow im very nervous so fingers and toes crossed pleeeease x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Oh no, Vercors! You're walking backwards to Christmas!!! Hope that you have your stabilizers on as we all face the slippery slope to Christmas and the New Year!
Hold on ladies - the going is getting tough!!!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

I am not a loser! . It is two steps forth and one back. I thought that losing almost 1.5kg last week was too much.
400gr up on last week and with birthday and Xmas approaching, I don't think I would be able to do any fasting for the next month! Just aiming to stay stable until the new year and then giving it another go.
Well sone Mazzalou, steady is the word.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Good morning movers and losers.
New batteries installed in my scales now so I am no longer 'Lo'
Another pound gone for me so a total of 8lbs to date and working out at a pound loss a week so slowly but surely so far. The 30 minutes on the cross trainer every day is boring but obviously helping even if I would rather wake up tomorrow morning half the woman I am today!
Thinking of giving the 2 day fasting diet a try to see if I can speed up the weight-loss - have any of you tried it and how have you fared? What did you eat on your 2 days of starvation rations?
Any web-links worth looking at please?

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi All,
Well done Vercors!!! Tam or not!
As for me... stuck

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Mm - maybe you're right girls and I shouldn't bother getting any new batteries for my scales after all!

Re: A Weighty Problem?

I have heard this myself but I shall continue to try ... fed up with sounding like a grouch , well its not my fault because of A, B or C if you get my drift , and Mazzalou can I borrow your scales Pleeeeease just to make me feel better by Lo

x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Lottie, I did not mean to be the bearer of bad news, but onc warned me about this side effects of tamoxifen. By him saying this, it gave me the right to overindulge and blame it on the Tamoxifen.
Mazzalou, I am sure your scales were right when they announced Lo . All scales should be programmed to give good news.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Ooooh Vercors please dont say that no point in trying to lose weight on Tam as I have 5 years of the damn thing !! I wont like being sooo overweight for 5 blooming years , mind you Im still here after all and thats the main thing , I maybe the exception tpo the rule you never know and be sylph like in a year or so , yeah right who am i trying to kid ... Anyway after the disastrious week of socialising and eating etc etc , I have managed to only put on a pound but as I am supposed to be losing weight I shall not be celebrating , hey ho onwards and hopefully not so much upwards weight wise

Love to all x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Well done Vercors.
I am afraid that I will have to defer my weigh-in this week due to a technical problem - my scales need new batteries!!! They read 'Lo' - and I am sure that refers to the batteries and not to me!!! x

Re: A Weighty Problem?

So excited this morning!. I lost 1.4kg this week and I am 200gr off coming back down to a BMI of 25. This means, (drum roll) I will no longer be officially overweight! So chuffed. Still want to lose a couple more kilos.
My onc was right, no point in trying to lose weight while on Tamoxifen. Now that I have switched to Letrozole, it has been much easier than I thought. Famous last word, Christmas is fast approaching!
Have a good week ladies.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

The diet involving the 2 day fast was covered in Good Housekeeping magazine when it was first being publicised. What I didn't like was they said on the 2 days you only have 500 cals you had to try to drink quite a lot of milk. A real no-no for me as I hate it, I can't stand dairy products like cheese either (have never eaten it and genuinely can't sit next to anyone having it!). Not keen on cream or eggs either - they just all have the complete yuck factor for me.

Re: A Weighty Problem?

Hi Quail ,
apparently you can choose which ever 2 days suit you as long as they are not 2 days in a row, so Im going for monday and wednesday as I always pick weekends so normally quite bloated monday anyway and hubby plays footie wednesday night so I just sort myself out for dinner , I think that way I will be able to keep it up but time will tell I have had a bad week baileys, chinese and party tonight so Im sure the scales will scream at me tomorrow, good luck and let me know if you are going to try the fast, we can will each other on

x
