Re: ANC and its side effects

Hi Lulu,

Thank you so much for this! Plasters are an issue for me so I tend to avoid them and just keep applying the antiseptic as often as possible. It's a real bugger it being my dominant side as there are so many things that you just cannot avoid doing.

'Suse my ignorance but what is a LO, (:D) maybe I should talk to my BCN about it all too?

Re: ANC and its side effects

try and keep the areas clean and dry.... the antibac hand gel is a good idea but shouldnt be used on open wounds like cuts and scratches as it stings to the high heavens.

plasters are fine if you dont get them wet... so on hands can be problematic when washing your hands.... if they get wet they are more likely to cause infections than if you dont use them at all... so either have plenty for frequent changes or try to avoid getting them wet.

i think it is more of an issue when its your dominant side.... i had an snb on dominant side and ANC or other side but im more inclined to do bad things on that side like get injections and cannualations as although i dont want LO if i had to get it id prefer not my dominant side... so im sorry im not being very helpful.

do you have a LO specialist at your unit nymeria? it might be a good idea to make an appt so you can discuss it fully.... maybe they can give you kinesia tape to put on yourself or do manual drainage and massage to reduce your risk of LO.

Re: ANC and its side effects

Oh I do. I have antibac wipes and sprays dotted about the house, and I launch into action every time. I even carry a tube of antiseptic cream and a hand gel in my handbag. Careful as I am (OH calls it obsessed! :D) this still seems to end up happening.

It's very frustrating when I go out of my way to try and reduce both the risk and infection.

Guess I'll just have to try harder??? 😞

At risk of telling you how to arrange 'eggs' and 'suck' into a well known phrase or saying, I was told to clean any tiny nicks or scratches staraight away with antiseptic wipe or anti-bac gel and to cover them with a plaster. The plasters may not be feasible for you, but maybe the wipe/gel is? It is a standing joke these days that wherever I go I have antispetic wipes, anti-bac gel and plasters!

ANC and its side effects

Hi everyone,

Is it normal that every time I get even the most tiny of scratches on my bad arm it always ends up painful and inflamed? I know it's not very big in the overall scheme of things but it's a pain because my treatment side is also my dominant side. I protect it as much as I can but I am a jewellery maker and it's just not possible for me to do that with even the thinnest of gloves.

Anyone else find this?
