I have also reacted to dressings. I had a reaction to the white square ones after the biopsies and to the square heart monitor pads in lymph node biopsy. I have had four previous non cancer related ops and never had the same issues. My doctor gave me hydrocortisone cream, which did the job, the consultant didn't say anything about the steriods in it when I told him! I am due to have a lumpectomy on 22nd, really hope I don't have the same problems then!
My poor sister (who was diagnosed a year ago) has reacted to lots of things since her treatment, the radioactive dye in the lymph node biopsy, the glue in her mastectomy scars, the dressings and the iodine!
dressings. Fingers crossed!! Xxx

Hi Girlies
Thank you to those who offered me advice .
Just thought Id let you know what sorted my skin out in the end . I went to doctors and asked if a hydrocortisone cream would be an option . She was not keen as she felt the steroid had too many risks to thin the skin , so she gave me a strong antihistamine . I also started to apply good old vaseline . Now a few weeks down, the rash has faded and no itch at all . Im not brave enough to attempt any other hydration cream so its still vaseline and as it is greasy I bought some mens cotton hankies and cut them into squares ... I put a piece over my boob inside my bra . ...so hey presto no greasy bra . It works for me !
I would never have thought to try vaseline only for this site . I guess its all trial and error but its so useful to have options to try and who could be better to ask other than the girlies on here . mwah Steph xx
And again. I have never been allergic to anything before and I had a lumpectomy on 20/1. A thick foamy flexible dressing was put on, and removed in clinic the following morning. 3 blisters, skin came off with dressings, 1 kept its lid on.
I thought others reading this thread might benefit from what I've found to protect these areas and help them to heal. It's hydrocolloid dressing. Forms a gell seal over the skin which helps healing without scars or scabs, protects and soothes. Not to be used on blisters that haven't popped. And for the itchy areas otherwise, hydrocortisone ointment.
i got this advice from a relative who is a nurse and wound specialist, helped me hugely.
Hi Pedal999
Interestingly enough I have just asked on here for advice on itchy skin . I found your post following it . I have developed awful itching above and below my suture line ( diep ) which was originally glued and also along side my Recon suture lines which were also originally glued .. I too developed some blisters on abdo skin following surgery and I think I did have a clear type of dressing on at that point but I think it was the dressings holding the drains insitu .
No Tamoxifen or Anastazole being taken .. .
I did have an itchy tum in hospital where the blisters were ..but the skin healed and only seemed to become troublesome once I started moisturising and massaging suture lines . Bio oil , aqeous and even my regular garnier lotion not helping . No redness , No rash just damn bl..dy itch . Driving me nuts once it gets going !
I am aware Eurex cream is supposed to help itchy skin .where you advised to try it ?? Steph x
Bless Google:- it found this thread, when all I'd asked it to look for was 'allergic reaction cosmopor'.
I have just had bilateral scar revision after mastectomy, never had any issues with allergies of any kind, but from day of surgery, chest was very Itchy (no rash)..
5 days later (one dressing change, same type: Cosmopor + Leukomed T) developed a bad rash corresponding to adhesive contact, so thankfully not involving scar area, and feeling unwell 😞
Dressing change to good old-fashioned Melolin & micropore, + Piriteze + Eurax cream and slept +++
If any of historic posters read this, can you confirm whether
--- You were taking Tamoxifen / Anastrazole etc at the time
--- Whether the dressings allergy has continued as far as you are aware?
Cheers
I've come to this a bit late, but in the hope that my experience may help others in the future...
I became allergic to dressings after my first WLE 6 years ago. So when I had to have a Mx earlier this year, I told the doctors and nurses. In the end they used 'glue' to fasten the wounds together and no dressings. I woke up from the DIEP with no dressings on breast or stomach. My only dressing was on my arm where they had to take a vein. I was in hospital for 5 nights and a bit worried about the wounds bursting, but I had no problems at all and everything has healed really well 7 months on. And no blistering!
I thought it was just me having a rough time. I have reacted to all the different dressings they have used since starting chemo. Never had a problem in the past but now coming up in an amazing bumpy rash round the edge of the dressing covering the site of my portocath. Any suggestions of what to use would be gratfully taken. The only thing that I haven't reacted to so far has been the paper micropore tape. xx
I too have found that my allergic reactions to dressings has increased through my treatments !!! The opsite ones have left me with red sore patches and have even pulled a layer of skin off when removed . that was very sore . Seem to have red and sore patches from most kinds though , even mepore .
The surgeon was brill though and used super glue on my last WLE so had no dressing on at all , which was good . Just rather crunchy and caught on my clothes .... so not perfect .
Hugs,
Jill x
I have never had any reactions to plasters or dressings before i had my double mastectomy after my op i was allergic to most types of dressings and had a hard time. my breast care nurse finally found one that i wasnt allergic too, not sure what they were called but they consisted of a white pad and really sticky clear edges, as these were the only ones i could use my breast care nurse wrote a prescription for me to get 4 boxes and i just took them with me to any dressing changes or appointments. I had a lot of burning sensations with dressings i found piriton helped xxx
