Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Hi just wondering if anyone else has, like me, just had a 2nd mastectomy? The 1St had beautiful stitching on my long but neat scar. The 2nd has a sort of 2 pronged fork shape that resembles a pin cushion on the prongs. It looks fairly ugly and puckered. Although 3 weeks on it looks slightly less scary, the glue and blood have crusted together & taking ages to drop off. It's hard to feel in any way feminine with this bizarre process going on! All the best to everyone going through this Roseyposy

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Waiting for date....will require a GA.....the waiting is horrible.....but 24th is not so far away.Xx😗

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Oh Jillybee , poor you !! Have you any relief from the draining ? Is the new drain in yet , or just going to be soon ?? I bet you feel fed up ... to put it politely !!

I have just got my next appointment for path results from mastectomy and WLX for recurrence in scar .... 29th June !! Can't believe they can be so cruel to make me wait so long .... had my op on the 4 th !!! Don't they know how stressful it all is ?????

Ok.....hour in ultra sound, drained an almighty 100mls....so,back into theatres, again, for drain and as soon as that comes out a steroid injection to go in.....and onward and.....onward......

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

You haven't highjacked anything Jillybee , and I am really glad that you joined in the thread , to let us know what is happening .... we need all the support we can get in my opinion . Posting on a variety of threads , ensures we all get to know each other and can help to support each other too .

Hope you are OK ...keep in touch please .

Lavendersblue,Thankyou....and aplogies to all on hijacking the post on superglue.

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Oh Jillybee , poor you , you have had such an awful time . Am sending you lots of gentle cyber hugs , hope the ultrasound drain helps and the steroid injection does the trick to help with the healing .

I have only had my haematoma since January , which has been bad enough , so can only imagine how awful it has been for you for the past 11 months . hopefully today will sort things for you . Fingers crossed .
Lots of love and healing thoughts .

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Lavenderblue.......Thankyou for your thoughts....still not gone, despite 2 operations ....so,tomorrow having ultra sound and drain, and steroid injection....been like this for 11 months now.....needing some TLC and cyber hugs from anyone here........

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Good to hear from you Sharon , have followed your progress on Marching thread , good to hear all your treatment is done ....yes I have some felt tip marks on mine too , although the colour is predominently purple .

Done on the 4th , so should be sorted by the 18th I reckon . Nothing has started to peel off on its own accord yet ..... maybe I need to get it wet a bit more . LOL

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

That makes sense KM , as he was doing a patch of recurrence on my old MX scar as well as the second mastectomy , very little spare skin on that as it was a radical one ...taking chest muscle too. So obviously whilst he had the tube out , thought he might as well do the other one too . LOL .
Hope you are keeping well .

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Hi Jill,

My incision was glued too and I was told that the colours underneath it (mine were black, purple and orange) were the felt tip pen marks from where the surgeon had marked me before slicing and the antiseptic stuff they wipe over us.  The glue dissolves slowly so it took about 14 days for most of it to go and the rest I peeled after that point.

Read on the other thread that you are due your results in about a week so I hope that goes well for you, keep us posted and take care of yourself

xx

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

I had this twice with two recurrences and I think they use it if it is hard to stitch. once was on the underside of the breast and the second time it was right up the middle between the 2 breasts in the cleavage area. That one has healed up amazingly quickly, don't be tempted to pick it off too quickly though. Best thing is to rub the area with baby oil first thing in the morning and last thing at night and after a while it will peel off itself! Mine was black and I was a bit worried at first but the results have been really good and the end product doesn't depend on your surgeon's stitching ability!

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Thank you Loona and Jillybee , good to hear that the results are good . Just not keen on the crunchy bit under my armpit ...not very comfy . Done on 4th June so hopefully will be dropping off soon ... LOL .

Did you shower normally with it by the way ? Am just having half showers at the moment , trying not to get it wet yet .

Jillybee , good to hear from you again ...how is the seroma healing , after your op ? My haematoma refilled after draining and is full and hard again now ...but they don't seem keen to drain again !!

Re: Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Hi lavenderblue,

i had mx with immediate ld flap reconstruction oct 13 and my surgeon used glue instead of stiches and i was very impressed with the result i can hardly see the large scar on my back .the crusty scabs came off about 10-14 days later .last week i had lipofill to recon and had glue done again on the small holes they make to insert the instrument they use to remove the fat and the scabs have come off already in my experience i prefere glue to stiches . linda

Anyone else had superglue instead of stitches ?

Recently had my second mastectomy in 5 months , plus a WLX for recurrence in my first scar . Was amazed to find on waking up that instead of stitches , I had been superglued !! Can't say I am impressed though ...hard and crunchy , and very puckered , whereas the stitching on my first mastectomy was beautiful .
Just wondered if anyone else has had this , and if so , how long before it peels off ??
Hope everyone is keeping well and coping OK .
Hugs,
Jill xx
