Anyone else have stabbing pains in scar after mastectomy ?

Yes I have been experiencing this issue and my doctor has told me that the nerves and muscles are knitting together and I am 3 years post op

Hi... just found ur reply after having the same pain after 8months post mestactomy. Why did you not insist for a scan?

Yes mine are short and sharp too....make me catch my breath , I spoke to the oncologist about them ladt week and he said he wasn't sure what the cause was for certain !!! However he did say they were unlikely to be caused by the cancer as cancer generated pain was usually lingering !!!  Not sure how re-assured I was..LOL . But it does help to know I am not alone in feeling them .

Mine are like stabbing pains really sharp like someone twisting a knife Like contractions.. I get them in a daily basis any time any place any where..really sharp where it makes me take a deep breath and hold my chest..but like you said its spose to be normal I see oncologist o tuesday nexr week ..x

Hi I'm so gald I found this thread.  Came on looking for answers regarding the intense stinging pains (like bee stings/burn sting) Im getting 6 weeks post rads.  Spoke to oncologist 2 weeks back and she said its normal and can settle in weeks or years, very helpfull!!

Although I dont wish this on anyone I am glad I'm not alone, its driving me mad and to be honest getting me down a bit.

Hi im 2months post rads now and still getting sharp stabbing pains like contractions when they arrive im getting them on a daily basis too.. waiting to see my oncologist in two weeks im still very exhausted also x

Yes! I had a mastectomy in March and experienced the stabbing pains you describe. I am sure it is to do with nerve damage. It is ok now but I guess the more surgery you have the. More nerve damage there will be. Try not to worry! Lindylou3 xx

Thank you Cat , Jo and Jan, as I have had two lots of recurrence removed from my first mx scar , it is no wonder that the nerves have been damaged , which would explain the sharp electric shocks I guess .

One of my mastectomy scars is able to be moisturised , but due to the recurrences in the other one , that one is still a bit too fresh . I have some Bio Oil which I have been using where I can , so hopefully that will help .

Hi I had 2 WLE and had exactly that for nearly a year, I felt like I was being tasered every 30 minutes for the first 3 months.  It will stop I promise.

Hi Jill, I'm still rubbing in moisturiser which has helped soften things up and I take paracetamol if it's too uncomfortable, I used to suffer with pain in my breast for years which I now know was caused by a fibrodenema , this was removed along with my cancer so I'm kind of used to having twinges! I have had sharp stabbing pains which made me wince. At follow up in May surgeon told me they are due to nerves being cut during surgery and are nothing to worry about. I have read that gently massaging the area can help. I use a little E45 or oil. Olive oil is meant to be good although I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks Jo , it is comforting to know that I am not the only one experiencing this . Have you taken any thing or rubbed anything in it that helps ?

I am 6 months down the line from my mastectomy but have had two WLE since then , the last one on the 1st July , so I expect the nerves will be rather battered by now !!

Hi Jill I had the same after my WLE, i was told it is the nerves and can take months to settle down and I still get an odd twinge now 3 months later, I try not to over worry but it is hard not to xx Jo

I had a radical mastectomy in January , followed by two WLE for recurrence since then ... and am getting short ,sharp stabbing pains almost like electric shocks that actually make me jump !!! Does anyone else experience pains like these ? I have read that it is nerve damage , but still worry ...
