Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi girls - had a lovely Christmas at my sisters. My family were there too and the kids were such fun and so good. The weather has been awful and EK seems to get it worse. My road is just loke an ice rink.

Sharon - you've done so well with everything and you look amazing.
Annie - not long to go now. Hang in there girl.
Maggie - hope you managed to get chemo today and everyting worked out ok.
Fiona - thank you for your lovely thoughts for next year.
Carol - so sorry your son poorly. Hope he's feeling better now.

Getting chemo tomorrow. Had it put off for week so that I could enjoy Christmas. Extra week makes it worse - just dreading it and all the side effects.

Hope we can all meet up sometime soon.

hi Maggie hope you got on ok today and got your last chemo, you are getting there.

Fiona, thanks for the new year message.

I was at the doctors this morning, ive came out in big red blobs on my body apparently its the radiation that caused it, he as signed me off for another 4 weeks then hopefully Ill get back to work.

Christmas was a nightmare as oldest took the vomitting bug, ended up taking him to hospital on boxing day, hes ok now

so good riddance to 2009, glad to see the back of it and wishing you all a very happy and healthy new year

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Thank you ladies, I had a great chat last night with Cloudhowe Annie...sorry we got cut off, my phone battery gave up the ghost.
Just getting myself organised to go to the Beatson to 'try again' with my last chemo. Bit apprehensive because the last two were cancelled so keep yer fingers crossed that 'today is the day'. Hopefully meet you up there today Annie for a cuppa and to finish off our chat.

Fiona, your sentiments about the New Year made me fill up. (but you know me I blubber at the blinking adverts on telly)..still..Im with you on wishing everyone a better year to come, it's been a tough one for us all, and without the support from all you ladies I think I would have gone crazy.

I will pop back in after my treatment today and let you know how it went

lots of hugs

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Girls,

Hope you are all well and had a lovely restful Christmas...really cold isn't it? heating on 24hrs a day!!

Annie- sorry to hear you're having a bit of a struggle right now, I hope things get better for you in the coming weeks, not long to go now... 7 will fly in! hope the boob holds up and hopefully you'll get a lot more energy when you're only on herceptin..

Well done Sharon... only 2 and all done, bet you're sick of the place also! how's bump coming along? when is it due, can't be long now.. you'll make a wonderful Auntie...

Mags, good luck for tomorrow, hope they can find a vein.. Last one!!! hope all goes well...you've come so far and had your fair share of trouble with it.. Rads will be so much easier...

I had a quiet but nice Christmas... no drama!! which in itself is lovely! couple of colds, but then that happens every Christmas and for a change it wasn't me!! Looking forward to an equally quiet New Year....

Happy New Year to you all when it comes, I wish you all renewed health and happiness...I know when I raise a glass at the bells this year, I'll not be thinking of the year ahead but to the relief of putting this one behind me....The only one good thing to have come out of this year is the Lovely Ladies I have had the privilege to meet on this site. You are all truly wonderful people, I owe such a lot to you all for your support and kindness which has helped me far more than I can express.. I will raise a glass in a silent toast to you all with the wish that 2010 is so much better than this one!!

Lots of love and Best Wishes

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi girls

Quick catch up now that the mad rush is over.

Maggie, yet another trial for you. I'm so sorry. After New Year, we will have to get you some professional advice about finance so that would be one less thing to worry about.

Good luck for Tuersday. You have done good girl. In fact you're amazing.

I hate the sight of the Beatson, so very sick of the whole thing now. I am quite badly burnt now under the boob and it is weepy and bleeding a little too. I have another 7 to get. I fell too and really bruised myself so I'm pretty sore too. I used to love the snow!!

My wonderful brother is coming up for New Year, and is geting engaged. Hope he won't be shocked at how the Tax and rads have got to me. Need to root the house out etc.

I hope all of you had a great Chrimbo and are looking forward t a happy and HEALTHY 2010.

With lots of love.

Hi girls - just on to say hope everyone enjoys Christmas. Can't believe tomorrow is ~christmas day. Been busy with Dad dying so will be hard without him, but will be with my family and my 2 sisters so all together.
Maggie - you are having such a bad time. I'm sure the break till next week will give you some time to get your strength back a bit.
Off to carol service with Fiona then think I'll watch Polar Express - my favourite christmas film.

Have a good Christmas and keep well.

Love
Sheila

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Woodlark, I am sorry you had a bad day today at the hospital. That must have been a bit scary for you. But perhaps it is for the best so that you can have a wee break from chemo over Christmas. I know it is not a nice feeling to miss out on a chemo when you expect to have it, as this has happened to me before and you sort of get your head ready for it, even although you don't really "want" it....if you see what I mean. I hope you have a nice relaxing Christmas now. At least you will have your next one before the New Year arrives. I truely hope that 2010 is a better one for you, much love Val.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Well..what can I say..I was all geared up for last chemo yesterday. I had an appointment at the Beatson at 10am with Mr Alhasso (onc)..my bloods at 11am..my simulater and CTScan at 1.30pm....and finally at 4.30pm my last chemo. When I was sitting waiting in the waiting room I felt a wee bit odd...kinda hot..and sickly.

Went into chemo suite and they took my temp and blood pressure..it was all looking good..but when the nurse put some saline thru my hickman, the room started to spin and I felt like I was gonna chuck up. The doctor was called and she took one look at me and said "no chemo for you today"...I was devastated. But could see her point. Im getting it next Tuesday. Bit apprehensive as they are removing my hickman this afternoon (another trip to the Beatson)...Ive got no veins left for final chemo..Im not looking forward to it.

Anyway..ladies..if Im not around I would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a great 2010..Spring is just around the corner (ok..not really..but we have to keep our spirits up) ha ha xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Girls

Just wanted to wish everyone a ‘Happy Christmas’. Lets hope 2010 is a better year than 2009!.

We’ve got our broadband connection up now – I was totally lost without it. I’m loving my new house – it’s just great, so much more space.

Maggie you seem to have such an awful time – I really hope everything went OK today.

Annie – not much longer to go.

Take care everyone, I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and it would be lovely to meet up in the New Year.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Oh Maggie

You have had just the most awful time. Don't quite know what to say. They don't give a lot of time for recovery between therapies, that's for sure. How are you feeling now? Apart from wearied and miserable?

Contact Carol at Maggie's to appeal against the decision now to allow any kind of benefit. That cannot be right!

I've had 20 rads now and they are a breeze compared to chemo, wee breakdown in the skin on last session, but a lovely nurse at the Beatson gave me a gel, some self adhensive pads and lots of cream. No real pain, like a long surface blister but they take realy good care of you. Still got 10 to go, but 4 of them are boosters, so only affect the wound site.

Oh and my nails are now detaching themselves big time, thought I missed that on Tax - wishful thinking. Getting Herceptrin on Monday so I'll see if they can recommend anything. Using plasters just now, but they come off so easily and hurt when they do. Any advice girls?

Maggie, is there no way you can go back to your friend's for the next week. This is no time to be on your own, just out of hospital and looking at more treatment. How's Jack?

Do let us know how you are, been worried about you.

Do keep well girls, and warm!

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Sorry Ive not been around, Sheila..Im so very sorry to hear about your dad. My heart goes out to you. My mum died on the 14 dec 1999...it's always a poignant time of year for me as I loved her to bits..it's sore pain thinking about her, even now.

Anyway, I was taken into hospital on the 9th and was let out yesterday. My Hickman got an infection that managed to get into my bloodstream, didn't know if it was new year or new york..away with the fairies...!!!!

Ive been on IV antibiotics for nearly two weeks..they managed to salvage my hickman for my last chemo (on Tuesday) It's gonna be a long day..Ive got a meeting with the Onc at 10.30am..my tats for radio at 1.30...my bloods and hickman cleaned at 2.pm then my chemo at 4.30...all on the same day...yuck...!!!!

I stayed at a friends last night, which was lovely...but coming back to this miserable cold flat is soooooo depressing...loads of bills behind the door..Ive been knocked back for housing and council tax help..it's all a wee bit depressing. Anyway..Im off to get housework and washings done..place is a tip and the landlady is coming tomorrow to check the place...all I want to do is roll up in a ball and wait till springtime.

Anyways..enough whinging..hope you are all well today and snuggled up.

Lots of love

hi girlies, hope you had a nice lunch on Saturday, we are all really quiet on here just now, I must admit I am not on as much as there seems to be a lot of sad postings just now and it does get to you, especially at this time of year.

Just read the one about Debs in Cornwall, so sad, she is an amazing woman.

Fingers crossed today for Lulu too as she gets her results of another lump that she found.

Sheila, hope you are ok after your dads funeral, sending hugs.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Girls,

Hope you are all doing well and must be really busy with the Xmas rush!! I've been on and reading but always dashing about so not much time to post..

Think lunch will be a quiet affair on Sat as just me, Pauline and Annie so far. Maggie has been in hospital since Monday with an infected hickman. Been up to see her a couple of times and she's still waiting to find out what they're going to do about it. She thinks they're removing it and putting one in her groin to allow her to have her last chemo, which she was supposed to have yesterday but couldn't.

Well I'm dashing out to Maggies centre this afternoon, got an appointment with Claire..

Helen, I did text you about Sat, but not heard back. Hope you are ok and your sinusitis is better..

Take care everybody

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Sheila

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news - we are all thinking of you at this difficult time.

I'm sorry I haven't been about recently, but we moved house on 24th November the day I finished my rads and we're still waiting for our broadband to be conneced - we were actually suffering withdrawal symptoms so had to go out and buy a mobile connection - which is actually rubbish as I've tried to post here a couple of times and it just crashes out. I've had sinutitus for the last 2 weeks and am feeling really rough - chemo was nothing compared to this!! I'm just so tired at the moment which is a bit of a shock as I seemed to bounce through my treatment.

I hope everyone is well.

Take care all

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Everything really quiet these days.

Once again, I have some bad news -yesterday my lovely Dad passed away very suddenly. He had been taken to A & E with extreme back pain and sickness. While getting CT scan, he passed away. He had an anurism in major artery from heart, and it would have been instant. He wouldn't have known anything. He was 86 but very fit and active and since Mum died, did everything for himself.
It is just such a shock.
I just think I can't take anymore of this.
Funeral on Saturday. My sister is 18 years younger than me, so am leaving her and husband to arrange everything.

Will be in touch soon girls

Fiona - sorry to hear about your disappointment with Herceptin.
Sharon - how are doing. What a shame about your neighbour but you will be a massive support for her.
Helen - how's the new house.
Euan home now and went to see him Sunday. Still had bit of cold but was careful. He's doing OK but will take time.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Guys

Fiona, I was talking to the specialist breast nurse at the Beatson last week about Herceptrin, how they know if 18 sessions is enough etc (some of the ladies at Haimyres have been on it for years). Some countries only give 3 sessions. She told me that they are doing clinical trials at the Beatson as that might be enough to do the trick! Apparently the 18 protocol is based on results done on mice, they just times it to gross for humans. Having said that, I would be devastated if I didn't get it as my tumour was fed by HER2 (I am er/or negative) Don't know if that's any consolation. I would appeal it, especially if your heart recovered naturally!! Keeping fingers crossed for you Fiona. You so do not need this.

I had my 7th rads today and waited, wait for it, 2 and a half hours! The computers were down in the mornig and the spent the whole day catching up. The waiting is horrendous and the whole day is wasted. Yesterday was ok, I was seen at 2 and my appointment time was 1.30, but the other lady she shares the car was very late in being seen so stll didnt get home till 5pm. I spend the morning trying to get as much done as I can. Still, by Jan it will just be Herceptrin every 3 weeks, so the end is in sight.

Carol, so glad you enjoyed the LGFG day. i too was stunned by the amount of stuff we got and am still using everything. I gave loads of it to my sister too. It was a great day, such fun. Wish we could go again! Incidentally, that was the most tactless remark made to you even though I am sure she would have been mortified if she knew she upset you. I think I have a bit of 'survivors guilt' because I ave now met some people who are terminal; ne lady has cervical cancer (didnt respond to chemo)and is her husband's carer. He has prostate cancer and too, is terminal. What can you say? She is getting Marie Curie nurses at night.

Hope you are feeling a bit better Shiela. Maggie how are you coping with FEC? Not long to go, and I can reiterate what everyone say, Rads is a walk in the park in comparison. Just take an engrossing book!

I met Sharon up at Hairmyres for Herceptrin and she looked a million dollers, the picture of health and her hair looked great. Gives us hope now that I have cut off the rest of the chemo hair that Tax left me! Baldie again fro the 2nd time this year!

It is always a problem for all is us to get together - I have never managed it due to treatment. I have had to miss 4 lunches/ get togethers/ booze ups because of the times of my rads. What are they like about changing you times? If I could get morning appointments I could have the afternoons free.

I have done all my christmas shopping on line! Got some real bargains too. All this bloody free time, could do some deep searches.
No way could I go round the shops. Getting round ASDA is a task and a half.

Off for a bath then bed, need to do my big shop tomorrow morn I have 2 Ryvitas and an inch of milk - having visitors in the evening. hope they don't beat me home.

Sleep well and take care.

Annie xx

hi everyone, nice to hear from you again Sharon, sorry to hear you are fed up, you have been through so much this year, just think not long until you are an aunty.

LGFB was really good yesterday, cant believe the amount of stuff you get

hope everyone good

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Fiona, Just read your post on the thread and sorry to hear that your Herceptin has come to a stop. Is there any other treatment that they are going to give you instead? It is such a shock when something out of the blue happens when you least expect it. Take care, love Val X

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Peeps,

Not the news I was expecting from the hospital today, I am not allowed to get any more herceptin.. The protocol of the trial states that once a LVF level drops below 45% the patient will not be given anymore herceptin, even if the heart shows signs of recovery..Mine dropped to 42% so that's me!!...I was so happy getting good news in Cardiology on Friday, then to be hit with this today!!.. My oncologist says I have had extra compared to the patients on the other arm of the trial, which should be enough.. so it's hold your breath and cross all fingers and toes from now on..!! not too sure how I feel...Bit wobbly I suppose...

Sharon, sorry to hear about your neighbour, no wonder you're a bit fed up at the mo.. is that the neighbour who did stuff for you while you were in hospital? It's all you hear of at the moment!! breast cancer seems to be a bit of an epidemic just now... Sorry you won't be able to make lunch either..it's a busy time all round I think..Hope you enjoy your nights out..x

Carol, how did you get on at LGFB? did you enjoy it?

Well back to work..

Big Hugs

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Gang,

Hope you all had a nice weekend?

Carol.. hope you have a good time at LGFB today..I really enjoyed it..you get a lovely bag of goodies and the girls are great at make up tips.

Doesn't look like we're going to suit everyone re Xmas lunch.. At the moment it looks like Maggie, Sheila, Annie, Pauline and myself for the 12th Haven't heard from Sharon, Helen or Lesley... will send a wee text..

Doing all my Xmas shopping online this year!! Have tried doing the shopping centres a couple of times and just find it too much!! it's the walking!!

I had good news about my heart on Friday, the cardiologist says there's been no damage to the heart even though my LVF level dropped and it is showing signs of recovering on it's own. So all being well I should get back on herceptin soon..

Look forward to seeing whoever can make it along for lunch on the 12th..

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Girls

My goodness, but you are all quiet!

That's 5 zapping down, 25 to go. Getting a bit tigt and tender underneath the arm, but otherwise ok. But the waiting!!!! Got Herceptrin tomorrow mornig at Hairmyres and rads in the afternoon, so will be whacked by teatime, I expect.

I will only manage lunch if it's a Saturday because of the rads, I am never finished before 2.45pm (appt time is 1.30) Is that of for everyone.

Hope you are feeling a bit better Shiela, and that you can seee Euan soon. You must be just about demented, but both of you are so vulnerable now.

How are you Maggie? Getting towards the end of chemo soon, thankfully. You can bounce back really quickly once you finish. I was so much better within a couple of weeks after FEC.

I picked up a wee cold and had a wee coughing fit getting rads. They said not to worry because I didn't move my arms. Still scarily tired, seems to have lasted forever. Didn't leave the house yesterday. Will pop out for a paper later and a wee walk. I went to a housewarming party on Friday night and it took so much out of me! Great to be out celebrating though, just need to know my limits.

Hope you are all well and getting back to normality and I really hope we can all meet to before the year is out.

God bless.

Annie x

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi girls - this is my 3rd week so starting to feel bit better. The weather is just awful - wouldn't dare go out with my wig, wearing scarf instead. One of my birthday presents was a day of pampering for 2 at the Spa in the Crutherland Hotel, EK. Fiona and I are going on Friday and really looking forward to it. There is the usual about not getting a masssage if you have cancer.
Euan got home on Saturday. He is very weak and tired and has to be very careful not to go near people with bugs. I still haven't got rid of my cold so not been to see him yet, which is just awful.
He has to stay off his work till February.
Carol - so glad you enjoyed your hols. So jealous as I'm sure you'll have nice tan and I look like a bottle of milk.
Helen - good luck on your move. That will be hard work so take it easy and let others do it.
Fiona - christmas lunch should be ok for me on 12th.
Annie. Sharon, Yvonne, Pauline, Maggie and anyone else - hope you're all ok.

Hope you are all well? This weather is rubbish isn't it? I just want to hide under the duvet and not come out!!!

Carol, glad to hear you had a lovely time... always good to get some heat into the bones before the winter sets in!!

Helen, nearly there now... when's the last one? you'll be so glad not to have to drive down here every day... congratulations on the house move.. that'll keep you out of trouble for a while.. have you much work to do when you move in or is it a walk straight in job?

Can I have a wee show of hands all the people that could make a wee Xmas Lunch on Sat 11th Dec in Cafe Andeluz.. I'll need to book I think and the Sat is better for all us who are back to work..

Big Hugs to all, hope you're not floating away

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

hi everyone, im back to the pouring rain, we all had a fab time, laughed a lot, weather was in the 80s everyday apart from one day when it rained, but I could cope with that, it was just so nice getting away from everything and I feel so much better now with a bit of a tan.

off to Wishaw tomorrow to see oncologist, hopefully he will do something about my lump in my neck as I would rather have it checked out, fingers crossed its nothing

nice to hear from you again Sheila, sorry to hear about your son.

Helen, good luck with the house move

everyone else, hope you are all good

love

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Sheila

It's good to hear from you again - I'm sorry that you've been having a hard time with your chemo.

How is your son now? I hope he's doing better - what a worry for you. I'm glad wee Jessica is 'looking after you'.

Annie - how are your rads going? Don't forget to slap on plenty of cream.

I've only got 3 more booster rads to go - the nurse was sating yesterday that my skin had held out really well. It looks like I've got a nasty burn on my collar bone, but it doesn't hurt and my boob just looks like its had a fortnights holiday in the sun, really brown.

I had some good news today - we've just concluded our side of the missives on selling our house - so we're now planning on moving to the new house next week.

Hope everyone is doing fine.

Helen

Hi Sheila,

Good to hear from you again, I was starting to get worried about how chemo was treating you.

So sorry to hear about your son, you must be so worried..I hope he makes a speedy recovery and gets home soon so that you can see him..
You've certainly got a lot on your plate just now, and it does always seem to come when we're at our lowest. I'm sending you a big hug and hope things get a bit better for you soon..

Hugs

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

So sorry not been here for ages.
First chemo was hard - propablY because I was low after being in hospital.
My son, Euan, took ill with pneumonia and pleurisy.Thought it could have come from swine flu and but that was negative. He was in HDU for 5 days then transferred to respitory ward. He is still quite ill but making slow progress. No idea when he'll get home. It's awful when your kids are so unwell, no matter what age. Euan is 33 .
Not able to go in and see him - will have to wait till he gets home.
Got 2nd Taxotere/Xeloda last Tuesday and feeling rubbish. Must have every SE going. I also have a bad cold and my central heating broke down at the weekend. Cried on the phone to the Gas Board on Sunday and they came out that morning.
Why is it that when your down, something comes along and kicks you even further. Just want some nice things to happen.
My hair is a sight - lots have come out but still long wispy bits. At fiona's one day with my scarf on. Jessica took her hat out of her bag, put it on and kept it on the whole time I was there. She just made me laugh. These are life's pleasures
Hope you are all ok - must look back at the posts.
Love to you all
Sheila

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Maggie

Sorry I missed you at the Beatson today - I did a quick tour of the area where Fiona gets seen prior to Chemo but didn't see you.

I hope it all went OK - take it easy.
