Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Girls

Well, been a while since I’ve been on – where does the time go! Thanks for my birthday message and Fiona & Carol thanks for the cards. Well, I had a really great birthday, although I still can’t believe I’m 40 – seems too grown up, lol! Had a few family and friends round for drinks and my sister and her family made a surprise visit from Wales and stayed for the weekend which was lovely.
I can’t believe it’s now a year since I had my first chemo – it’s such a relief to get through the list of first anniversaries.

Sharon – Hope you had a lovely birthday. How did the tests go in London?

Sheila – congrats on becoming a gran again. I hope baby Murray and mum are doing fine.

Yvonne – good luck with your return to work

Carol – sorry to hear about your friend.

Fiona – glad your mammogram results were clear.

Anna – Are you Anna from the YWF?

I’m waiting on my appointment for my mammogram, saw oncologist last week and he’s ordered one. Told him I wasn’t going to get my boobs out for him, as I’d had an examination 4 weeks earlier and was going to the breast clinic next week. Think I’m going to ask to see another Doctor next time as I just feel really uncomfortable!

Anyway, I hope you’re all having a lovely easter and haven’t eaten too much chocolate eggs!

Take care all

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi girls and welcome to the new girls.

Not been on for wee while. First week of Xeloda OK but struggled through second week. Was at hospital on Monday but they didn't reduce dosage - I have to persevere with anti nausea tablets.

Some good news - Gran again.
My daughter in law gave birth on Monday to baby boy. She was 5 weeks early. He is 5lb 11oz and just seems really tiny. He was born on the same date as Cameron, their 1st child. He was 4 on Monday.
Both still in hospital as baby has jaundice and also strepb infection. Hope to get home at weekend. Baby is called Murray.

Hope you all enjoy your Easter Weekend.

Please let me know if there is any get togethers I can attend if I am fit as I would love to meet you all.
Speak to you soon

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Everyone,

Been a while since I was on....Had a really busy week at work last week so I've been a few days getting back on my feet..

Lynn, sorry to hear chemo is giving you a bit of trouble, hope you start to feel better soon..

Welcome Anne, where about's are you from? I come from Ayr but live in Glasgow now. Good luck with starting chemo, at least things are moving along now...I had my lumpectomy on 26th Feb and first chemo on 10th April last year, so the time scale is about the same. I can't believe that's a year ago, it really doesn't feel like it!

Carol, Sorry to hear about your hubby's friend, it brings us down to earth with a bump...we really do have to make the best of every day.

Yvonne, good luck with going back to work...I got the all clear with mammogram and chest Xray, just waiting to go for my endoscope now.

Annie, any results from scan yet? hope all is well..Sharon is down in London today till Wed having tests..

Big Hello's to everyone else, hope you are all doing well and kept nice and busy!!

I'm having pain in my back and it's stopping me sleeping at the moment..I even bought a padded mattress topper and it's not working, I'm hoping it starts to work soon as I know it'll end up with a trip to the Docs...

Big Hugs to you all

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Anne - i had the MX on 28th January and started chemo on the 9th March. Good luck for the 6th,i'll be thinking of you. There's a few of us post on "MX mid feb" who are starting chemo the same time as you - might be worth giving it a look if you need some support. The thread should really be re-named now since almost everyone on it has moved to the treatment stage from the MX stage, but no one has been inclined to change the name. i think there's 3/4 who are starting that week.

Hope the echo went well, i had one too (don't know if everyone has one or if it depends on the type of chemo.)

Cheers

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow, hope all goes well. let me know how you get on.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hello everyone - hope all is well with you,Carol i know all is not well for you, what a terrible shock that must have been,my thoughts are with you.

Nothing great to report here unfortunately - day 20 today and losing hair at a distressing rate - despite the cold cap and Prof.Plant's juicing suggestion. Chemo no. 2 on Tuesday - i will persist for what its worth. Sore mouth is at last on the mend, it took 3 trips to the docs before any improvement, can't bear the thought of that being a recurring SE. Sorry - not feeling very upbeat.

Hi Lulu
Thanks for your post.
It is good to know I am not alone in this fight, I have wonderful family and friends but it is good to talk to people who know what it feels like.
I am off to hospital tomorrow to have an echo test on my heart, then on Tuesday I go back to see the oncologist about when my chemo will start. It is planned to start on 6th April. I will have my chemo at my local hospital, after that 20 rads at the Beatson.
Hope to hear from you again.

hi girlies, hope you have all recovered from last week!!! got really sad news today, one of my friends hubbies died aged 40, they think it was a heart attack, I am totally in shock and cant take it in, he was fit and healthy, went to the gym and was always out running and he was a gem of a guy.

its just so unfair and they had 2 teenage kids, just as well we dont know whats round the corner.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

hi annie

i felt really fit and healthy before i was diagnosed too... was in better shape than i had been for a number of years walking 10 miles a week up sauchiehall street to sandyford place... had even managed to lose a wee bit of weight and the last thing on my mind was having cancer again..... but 10 and 1/2 months later and im just getting ready to go back to work.

chemo wasnt fun but wasnt anywhere near as bad as i expected and the hairloss didnt bother me at all... nervous about restarting work especially starting my new job with chemobrain in tow in about 5 weeks time.

hope all goes well for you.

Hi Anne

Welcome. Sorry you have had to join us, but you will find lots of support.

Really good news that there is no lymph involvment. Are you getting a lumptectomy, or have you already had it?

My own experience of FEC was ok. Truly.

Good luck pet.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Everyone
I am new to the forum. I come from Ayrshire so not too far from Glasgow about 40 mins.
I was dx on the 19th February, had a WLE on 22nd and the results showed I had 8mm grade3 invasive ductal cancer. Back in for sampling of my lymph nodes at the beginning of March, got results last week and they are clear.
Saw oncologist on Tuesday and I should be starting 6 cycles of FEC chemo on the 6th Apr, then when that is finished 4 weeks of rads at the Beatson.
It has been like a rollercoaster ride the past 5 weeks as I was perfectly fit and healthy until I had my mammogram. I have had wonderful support from my family friends and workmates, but it is good to talk to people going through the same as me.
Look forward to hearing from you all

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Lassies

Anne CONGRATULATIONS! What a packed, eventful day you had missus! Wee Kez' baby Lily-Rose's head is engaged,so she could go at any time. She is a lively wee baby too Kicking the tar out of her mum. They are going home tomorrow and Iam seriously gonnie miss them, but will pop down (legs permitting) in the next couple of weeks now that cat is out of the woods. A wee break and some sea air will be welcome.

Lynne, I was advised to suck an ice lolly during Tax as I had horrrible mouth problems and on my last 2 sessions I had only a couple of short lived mouth ulcers. Might work ... Anyway, cannot hurt. Good luck and glad you are not suffering too much. xx

No results on the scan yet, got to be good news? Got the date for the bowel op - Aptil 9th. Not especially looking forward. They couldn't do it in November - too much trauma at the time.

Great catching up. Been awfy busy over the last week and knackered now.

Have a lovely Monday! Hope you enjoyed your forum and raised the roof and glasses. Oh Maggie, did you enjoy your canine shindig?

Speak soon and take good care.

Lynn, Hope your mouth starts to feel a bit better soon, I did notice your post and put a wee reply on that.

The YWF was brilliant, thoroughly enjoyed it..It was so good to spend some time around old friends and new...Laughter is therapy and tears are healing!...and there are no better friends than the ones sitting in the same boat as yourself!..anybody thinking of going should go, you get a lot more out of it than you expect..

Needless to say I'm tired today, so don't plan to do much at all..

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Hi Guys! Happy Monday.

Great news Sharon. They are pulling out all the stops for you and I am sure you will beat this buggerdy thing. You are stronger than it is. The very best of luck.

Anne, you are going to be a granny! My wee neice Kez is due in a couple of weeks. I cannie wait! She and her dad are coming up from Blackpool on Thursday for a long weekend. Gotta pull the finger out and gut the house. Everything has slid as I have been bone tired and had 2 infections in the last 2 weeks. Normality - please come back! I was halfway through painting the bedrooms when I was dx last Jan and havent got round to finishing it. For all the girls going through chemo, I have just discovered sun dried strawberries. They are great and give you an energy buzz. Good fibre too! Just thought I'd pass it on.

So glad you are feeling better Shiela, now that no more nasty Taxo! I see that al-megrahi's prostate cancer has responded to Taxo and that he might have another 5 years. It's a harsh regime though, but so effective.

The LGFG day is great isn't it Lynn? So many lovely goodies and great hints. I'd love a refresher course ...

The auld cat has finally come round!!! he is still very ungainly but doesn't seem to be in significant pain and he has even been playing with his sibs. He seemed to recover all of a sudden - last Monday he was still howling with pain. It broke my wee heart.

The muscles of the thighs still don't seem to work and I am very wobbly on the old legs - had a wee episode at Hairmyres this morning getting Herceptrin. Just faint and jelly legged!

Have the best time at the Young Womens Forum! Wish I could attend.

Take care my dears.

SHARON - THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU COULD GET ON TRIAL AT MARSDEN.
I'M SURE YOU ARE WILLING TO TRY ANYTHING AND GO ANYWHERE IF THE TREATMENT WILL WORK. GOOD LUCK.

HAVE HAD GOOD DAY WITH MY 8 YEAR NIECE. WE WENT TO EK TOWN CENTRE AND SAW FILM HACHI WITH RICHARD GERE. IT'S ABOUT A DOG THAT HE FINDS. LOVELY FILM BUT SO SAD. CARA WAS SOBBING COUPLE OF TIMES AND MADE ME CRY TOO. HAD A WANDER ROUND SHOPS - CARA'S FAVOURITES THEN HOME.

FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW THAT TAXOTERE HAS STOPPED. STILL ON XELODA BUT NOT SO MANY SIDE EFFECTS.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE GOOD WEEKEND AND YOU MUMS, ENJOY MOTHERS DAY. FIONA MAKING DINNER FOR ME TOMORROW.

Re: Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

WOW you have been busy on here recently haven't you!!
I'll try catch up when I get a min.
Sorry I haven't managed to give some support to new girls, I've jsut been really busy, as soon as I get my head together I'll be back to my normal self. My wee brain frazzled at moment.

I just wanted to let you all know I maybe going to Royal Marsden in London for treatment! They have a trial on with a new drug called Neratinib, it attacks HER2+ cells from the inside out.
I was told I had 2 trials to choose from but when ONC got the information faxed she discovered that one of the drugs they already had at Beatson and was no good to me.

I was also told that after all this time they have now discovered that my cancer has always been Primary, although it is HER2+, it is resistant to Herceptin. They are hoping that this new drug may help as with everything else for me at the moment this is not a guarantee.
Obviously as it has spread it is now Secondary.
CT Scan shows tho that the chemo worked everywhere else bar the wee nodule and rash on chest!! this IS a wee bugger so it is!!!!

This new drug will be easier as it's in tablet form. Will hopefully hear next week what's definatley happening.

So looking forward to next week, did you get an email?? what talks you on? remember girls 'DON'T FORGET THE BOOZE', wish i could take costume for a swim but can't with this hickman line in.
I've got a wedding the Sat night but not sure if I'll go yet.

Teresa - thank you for thinking of me and popping in, pop in anytime xxxx

Have a great weeken everyone, I'm hoping to have quiet one for a change.

Hiya

Hope you lassies going through your first chemo sailed through it. Everyone's experience is different, so no amount of reassurance will suffice but nothing will happen that you can't cope with, or that the staff can't help you with. Keep posting.

Girls, I got my bone scan today, and was asked to stay back for a ct scan. I know this is nothing to worry about - I have had LOTS of sceletal injuries. Just would like to know if/and at what part of your therapies you were scanned?

Lots of love to you all
