so sorry to hear about Sharon, she was indeed a great inspiration to a lot of people including me. Im very sad, goodbye Sharon rest in peace x x
So sad to be saying goodbye to you my dear friend, you started this thread 2 years ago Sharon and you supported me through all of my treatment...some rough times and funny times, you mean the world to me and all your buddies.....Thank you breast cancer care for bringing us together..xxxxx
glad to hear your finished your chemo and getting through your rads.
hope you havent suffered too much.
i had a lumpectomy and chemo last year and finished my rads in feb and recently had a hysterectomy and ovaries out as i carry a mutation in the BRCA2 gene.
Hi I'm from ek and had lumpectomy in may, chemo June-oct and I'm now into my 4th week of radio, looking to chat to women in my area who are in same boat. Anyone out there lol. Colly x
I'm on Facebook though don't use it very often - Fiona set it up for me.
I will PM you my full name - is that all you need
You need to get yourself set up on Facebook. Me, Fiona, Carol, Sharon, Angela, Lulu all talk to each other regularly and it's great, oh and Yvonne's there too. There's private email facility if you want to keep the conversation private.
I'm doing great, 4 wee scars and very few side effects. I'm a bit like you, I've done a whole load of christmas shopping on-line, makin the most of being off.
Hopefully you'll have got thru all the chemo se's by christmas and you'll be able to enjoy it. Are you spending christmas with your daughter? I'm glad things are going ok for you.
Annie, I hope you're OK too and are managing with this awful weather.
Looks like everyone has given up on this site - hope not as it's so
good to hear how everyone is doing.
Had 6th chemo yesterday and getting wee break over Christmas. Not back till 5th January. He hopes I should be able to take 3 more - pleased with how things are going.
Helen - hope you're OK after gall bladder op. Take it easy.
Annie - are you keeping well and getting out and about.
How is everyone else. Are you getting on with Christmas shopping. I've done most of mine on-line as too tired to go around town shops.
Love to you all
Hi Helen, Hope you are making a grand recovery from your gall bladder op. A neighbour of mine had it done in the summer and had been great since. Hope it's hte same for you!
Hope you are handling the chemo well Shiela. You are a trooper!
Everybody geared up for Christmas? - looking forward to it, bedbound this time last year, lots to make up for........
Lots of love
Good to hear from you again - i've been popping in her recently to see if you've been posting. How are you feeling after your 5th chemo? I hope you've got over the worst of the se's.
I'm doing fine, had my gall bladder out Mon 8th and I'm doing great, just so relieved it's over with.
Fiona, Sharon Carol, Mags & Lulu are all heading down to Whitby this weekend for a big BC meet-up, wish I could go but still taking things easy.
Hi girls, just catching up with everyone. Sorry not been on for few weeks. Been really tired. Got 5th chemo on Monday, so still under the effects of steroids. They do give you a wee lift.
Fiona and Sharon - hope you had great holiday.
Helen - are you better after gall bladder op. Too bad about your wee bad turn over BC. You get through all the treatment etc. and sometimes it is ages after before it hits home just what you've been through. You are a star coping with treatment with a young family.
Carol - how are doing. Are you back at work yet.
Just getting ready for rubbish next few days. Usually just sleep most of the time. Don't know what I'd do with Fiona being so near.
Love to everyone
Hope you are all keeping well, and that the fashion show was a blast. I had my last consult with consultant that day, all ok. Sore, hot and very hard boob has no cancer, just bad scarring from rads.
Lost my brand new Nokia X6 last Sunday, with all my contacts! No longer covered by my contents insurance (changed to a cheaper option when doing my cancer compromise spreadsheet all those months ago) Physio has helped a lot, gentle exercise class henceforth. Iam waiting to see the other consultant about the diverticulitis (appt was cancelled and I was supposd to call to make another and the number was in my lost phone ....) Long for life to be back to normal!!
Anyone due for recon in the forseeable?
How is everyone?
Hi everyone, hope you are all ok, we all need to have a wee lunch meet up soon, really need to get something sorted. I'm helping at the bc fashion show tomorrow, mags and Kim are models, so looking forward to that.
Take care girlies, love n hugs xxx
Hi Annie / Sheila
Hope you're both OK. I'm doing fine, had a bit of a 'wobble' emotionally recently as I think the whole BC thing finally sunk in, but I'm working thru it and starting to feel loads better now.
Fi & Sharon got delayed in Spain, Fi got home today and Sharon's back tomorrow.
Hope you both have a good weekend
Hiya classy lassies. So good to hear from you Shiela. Are you feeling better now that you have been drained? I am attending 'At Risk of Lymphodema' course at the Haven. I have had cellulitis before following a blunt trauma and am very reactive to insect bites so am high risk. It'a a great course at the Haven. You might enjoy it, a couple of the girls have lymphodema and there are great tips on massage etc. Godbless Shiela and keep well!
Helen, hi. Good to hear from you. My cousin has COPD (she had pleurisy this time last year) She is getting pelters as she is a very commmitted smoker (she has cut down, but seems unable to give up completly)I am dispairing of her! After when we have gone through through no fault of our own .... Still it's not cancer and she was convinced it was. I was too, to be honest. BTW, my neighbour Davie had his gall bladder out a few months ago and was sunbathing. He has a few wee elastoplasts on his tum! He said the surgery was absolutly fine! I couldn't believe how minimal the scars were and he said it was so worth it. He was in a LOT of pain beforehand. The VERY best of luck pal.
My walking is much better following physio, much less tentative. Just a bit slower and I still get awfy tired. I got some aids which have been helpful. Again, the care from the OT, the physio, the Haven etc have been wonderful. I have so many people to whom I owe thanks. If I could just get the boody diverticulitis under control .....
So Sharon and Fiona are in Spain! I hope they are having a ball. How is Sharon? It would be great to meet up. Is anyone up for recon yet? I guess that will be the next step in our wee adventure.
It is nice to see the posts again, do keep in touch!
With heaps of love and best wishes.
It's good to here from you again, I was worried about you as you hadn't been on for a while. I'm glad you're feeling a wee bit better and hopefully your sleeve will help.
I had my pre-assessment apt through today to get my gall-bladder out; which I'm not looking forward to 😞 But apart from that I'm doing fine and am being kept busy, between work and running round after the kids.
How are your family? Is your wee grand-daughter keeping you busy?
You take care
Hi girls - thank you so much for all your lovely messages. It is so encouraging to know we are all there for each other.
Got 2nd chemo last Monday and starting to feel bit better.
Managing to eat bit better and enjoy wee glass of wine.
Been to Lymphoedema Clinic and got sleeve to wear. Not the most glamourous of things, but is does give some relief. If I'm going dressy out I don't wear it.
Fiona - so jealous of your wee trip to Spain Enjoy.
Helen - good to hear from you again. Are you keeping well and coping with work and family.
Annie - you are having a hard time. Keep cheery.
Carol - good to know you still check out this page.
Maybe when Fiona and Sharon get back from holiday we could get a date to meet up for lunch.
Sheila sorry to hear your still having a bad time, about time we did lunch again if you feel up to it? girls we need to get the finger out and organise food and drink !
Well. the Occupational Therapist was here yesterday to assess what aids needed. I am finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that the myopathty is permanent. But the aids will help.
Helen, my cus's condition is not cancer, but she has severe lung damage. She is not answering her phone at the moment, and her work and her kids, partner, know nothing about it. So it's a wee bit of a burden for both she and I. But it's DEFINTLY not cancer. Phew!
Hope you are all happy and shiny.
Hi Annie - Your poor cousin, she must be going through hell right now. I'll be thinking of you both on Tuesday. How long will it take to get the results?
Sheila - How have you been over the weekend - thinking of you.
Shiela - what a sh*t time you are having of it! Have you tried smoothies? I bought a maker when dx way back last Jan and lived on them through chemo - slung an Activia yogurt, skimmed milk, ice cream, banana - slug of Bailly's - and anything else to hand. Nice long glass, ice and straw and you're set. Did the drains help?
Physio was gruelling. Embarrassing. Physio has seen steroid induced muscular myopathy before and it is sometimes very sore. luckily, I'm not, but Jeez, so restricing.
Spare a prayer girls please. My cousin, with whom I was out with yesterday, is having a CT scan on Tue. She is a lifelong, committed smoker and now has a 'cloud' in her lungs. She has 2 young boys and is in self hatred mode just now. I am going up with her - her partner and the kids don't know.
Lots of love to you all, hope you are thriving and getting better with each passing day.
Forgot to say ..... I hope I don't sound morbid, but I've just bought a lovely book, called 'Dear Mum, from you to me' - It has a question on each page, going back to your own childhood, thru pregnancy and hopes for the future. Anyway I thought it would be nice to record everything about me and how I've felt about the last year and keep it for Seren for when she's older. Hopefully when she's older we'll be able to look thru it together, but it's something she'll always have of me.
Hope everyone's having a nice weekend.
Hi Annie - I forgot to say, glad your mamo was clear, it's such a massive relief to hear that isn't it.
Sheila - how are you feeling today, I'm thinking of you.
So sorry to hear you're having a really tough time at the moment, I hope you're trip into hospital has sorted things out for you. How is your Lymphodema? Are you having any treatment for it?
Sharon was looking really well when I saw her at Hazel's funeral, she has had to have a break from chemo but went back on it last week. Me and Sharon are going to Spain in mid September, really looking forward to both of us getting away for a week in the sun.
Love Fiona xxxxx
Annie, that is fantastic news, you are getting there, I stopped coming on the forum but I will now keep checking our wee page.
Sending you hugs
Sheila, sorry I'm not on the forum much now. What an awful time you are having, cancer sucks, so sorry you missed the wedding, you are going through so much crap just now, if there is anything I can do for you p,ease let me know, I've got shingles just now so not out and about much but nothing like what you are going through..
Take care, sending a big hug
Hi Girls...sounds like some of you are having a tough time..Sheila how are things today? Im so sorry you missed the wedding and that you had to get drains in..have they helped? sounds like a you are going thro'the mill at the moment. Just try and be good to yourself, when I couldn't eat during my treatment Fiona told me to try Complan, unfortunately every time I went to the supermarket I forgot to buy it..but it maybe worth a try. Sometimes I would have a notion for food and found Japanese Miso soup with noodles in it done the trick..quite bland but when you don't feel like eating it hits the spot..Hope you get some respite from everything this weekend.
PS..yes it was me in the Sunday Mail..me and my big baldie head staring oot' scared the bejesus out me.. and no doubt everyone else who saw it ha ha Big Hugs from Maggie take it easy doll xxxBIG HUGSxxxx
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re having such a tough time at the moment and sorry that I’ve not been on the thread recently. How long are you on this new chemo for? You’re doing great managing to keep your fluid intake up, but try to eat something you need to keep your strength up and take care of yourself.
I know it won’t be the same, but hopefully your friends daughter will have a dvd of her wedding and you and your friend can have an afternoon in watching it together.
How is Fiona and your wee granddaughter – is she 2 yet?
Will be back over the weekend Sheila.
Love ‘n’ Hugs
It sounds like your having a right time of things. Even worse when you cant plan anything nice because of appointments and treatments. Look after yourself though, it wont do you any good in the long run if you don't eat.
How many sessions of the new chemo are you having?
I didnt know Dr Y was still working, last time i was in it was Dr Dunn and her team I saw.
Just to let you know, I saw Sharon a couple of weeks ago and shes having a rough time on the new chemo, but shes doing well and looking good.
Keep your chin up
Annie - good news on bone scan and mammogram. That should give yu a wee lift.
Been in hospital ( AGAIN) for 6 days. Thought it was just overnight to get fluid drained but it turned out awful. 2 different drains wednesday and thursday but decided still lot of fluid left so had to put in massive chest drain in on friday. It was really painful, but fortunately my daughter Fiona there so they let her stay with me. I was going to my best friends daughters wedding on the Saturday but didn't get. I am heartbroken I missed it. I feel as though I can't make any arrangements as just don't know how I'll be feeling. Drain out Sunday and they were please with amount of fluid. Got new chemo on Monday then home. Usual side effects, but drinking loads and eating not much. Should be skin ad bone the amount I east but not hundgry. Got into trouble from Dr Y for not eating enough.
Everyone is so quiet just now. Hope you are all OK
SHARON - think about you often. Are you coping.
Miss all the chat.
Love to you all
Fee, great bone scan wasok. Mine was too, some bone damage and wear and tear but nothing sinister. Got result from mammo today - within normal range. Got hardness and scarring but no cancer. Finished herceptrin last Monday, so the madness is coming to an end. Will sleep tonight! I started physio on Monday and that will be intense.
Shiela, how are you keeping? Havent heard from you for yonks. Any news on Sharon?
Fiona - hope all went well at Hazel's funeral. It must have been so sad and a very difficult thing to go through. I don't think I knew her.
Glad your bone scan OK. That would be quite a relief for you.
Was that "our" Maggie's picture in Sunday's Mail. They were amazing. Well done.
Hope everyone else doing OK.
Hi Sheila and Annie,
Sorry not been on in such a long time..I've been really upset about Hazel..It's the funeral today, It'll be very hard but there a lot of us going who've all met and knew Hazel so at least we'll all the there for each other..
Annie, My bone scan was clear..I have osteophytes and arthritis, which I'm getting physio for...I hope your mammo went ok..and wasn't too sore.
Sheila, very sorry to hear that the Xeloda isn't working and I hope all goes well with getting the fluid drained, Sharon had it done just over a month ago and they got 5 litres, It was such a relief for her..I hope the Myocet works..I've never heard of that one before but there seems to be new ones coming out all the time. I hope the side effects aren't too bad..you had such a bad reaction too the Tax lasts time didn't you..I'm seeing Maggie, Kim, Helen, lulu,Carol, Sharon and Angela today..nice to see everyone again. just wish it was under better circumstances..
Lots of love
Fiona - so glad you had a good holiday. Have you had results yet. I think it is quite ok to go through some bad spells after treatment. When you think what we have put up with, physically and emotionally, it is bound to take its toll. You are a fighter Fiona, and a brave person.
Carol - hope you weren't too disappointed not getting back to work. You can just enjoy this lovely summer !!!
Annie - you sound like you're having great time with family.
How is Sharon - haven't heard anything from her for ages.
At hospital today. Xeloda not working, and lot of fluid in stomach.
Going in Friday to get that drained. I have to start new chemo so need to get another (3rd) line in. Doing that on Friday as well.
Next week starting on Myocet. Not much about on BBC site. Think it's just the usual side effects. It's quite scary starting something new. Having been on Taxotere for so long, although it was hard, at least I knew what to expect. I feel really emotional just now - I am crying at anything or nothing. Going to wedding next
Saturday and Dr Yosef kindly put off chemo till after that. Bloods were also very low so have 4 days of GCSF - that usually makes me feel bit better.
Love to everyone
I was really sad to hear of Hazels passing. This foud disease has messed so many people up and shattered families. RIP.
Any news Fee? Please let us know. Very worried about you!
I had the family up (for a funeral) nad they left Sunday evening. We had a great time all getting together.. Funeral was friend's dad (pancrea cancer) I was taking my nephew down for his 21st, but Mr Jameson went so quickly that we had to postpone. Trying to make it down for a couple of days at the weekent. I have my last Herceptin next Monday, so need to come back for that. Poor wee lad was sooo looking forward to going down. He will stay down for a week or so with my brother.
Fingers crossed for me girls - mammo today. Bood is still sore and hard - and I finished rads in Jan! Did anybody think the s/e would last so long. Also waiting for physio for the myopathy. I have to be very careful walking as I fall so easily!
Take care girls.
I thought I'd better let you know that our friend Hazel passed away last night (28th July) She put up some fight and yet still managed to smile and send kind thoughts to other cancer sufferers when she was fighting the big fight herself..Love goes out to her young family her husband her parents and all her friends
You are going to be sorely missed wee one...forever in our thoughts..RIP
Hi girlies, Fee good luck for tomorrow, fingers and toes crossed for you. Sheila and Annie, I didnt get signed off for work which im totally mad at as ive to go for an ultrasound on my back and pelvis as my left leg is constantly bigger than my right!!!
not on the forum as much now, but you are all in my thoughts
love n hugs
Feels like ages since I've been on here!...Just back from holiday on Tuesday and had a wonderful time in Lanzarote, wish I was still there. It was quite a thought to come back...Ii did really well putting the up and coming bone scan results to the back of my mind...it's amazing what being away from it all can do...However, not doing so grand at the moment..Got the wobblies big style and I suppose it was to be expected. My back is sore which is making me feel worse, and then I haven't been feeling well...trying so hard not to panic but as Tuesday gets nearer, I feel ready to blow...trying not to take it out on those round about me too...was going to have a winge on facebook, but too many people who know me will worry if I go on saying this, that and the other!!! so you girls are getting it in the neck!! apologies!!! I've been mega down and angry today, Bloody horrible disease and the crap it brings....Thinking of Hazel and Sharon and Sheila who are having it really hard right now...wish It would all go away, wish I could make it better for all of them....x
Hope to meet up with you all soon...really could be doing with it, I missed Edinburgh yesterday as wasn't too well..
Take care and sorry for moaning..
My guys - it is quiet just now!
Good luck going back to work Carol. Betcha it will be a relief once you are back in the swing! A wee bit of normality eh?
Shiela, sorry you are back on chemo. Is your new regime easily tolerated?
How are you doing Sharon? What treatments are you on now?
I will be starting physio soon, twice a week for an hour and hydrotherapy. I am certainly getting a bit of strength back and can walk up stairs as long as there is a rail. Did a bit of walking in Blackpool! We had a great time, family and friends all together (mostly) including my 3 wee nieces who are all born with 9 months of each other. Joolz gave up the chance of going to Vienna to come to Scotland! (Her parents teach in the NATO school in Brussels) She is with them now in the Highlands, where they have a house.
I get my last but one herceptrin on Monday, but might need surgery for the diverticulitis, although it's is better now that I am on meds for it.
Have any of you girls been doing anything exciting? Not world shatteringly exciting for me, but I am taking my nephew down to Blackpool for his 21st next week, and Naidy (brother's wee girl) is coming back with me for a month! She will be staying between me, my sis (her cuz Claire is her "best friend" and a wee jaunt up to Drumnadrochhit when Joolz is for the summer - they have a house up there. I am hoping to get a good few long weekends in to make up for last year! Just wish the weather was better, I had to put my down duvet back on last night!! Thought I wouldn't need it till October!
Best wishes to you all!
Can't believe how quiet everyone is - must be on hols.
Weather here is so awful. Wish I was off somewhere warm.
Back on chemo again. He's putting me on Xeloda alone, so
that should be better than having Taxotere as well. Hopefully
it will get rid of fluid in chest and stomach. I have been
very breathless and tired.
Carol - how do you feel about going back to work. It is quite
a thought after being off for so long.
Hope everyone else is coping
Hi Sheila, back is getting better, started physio, hopefully we will get a holiday in October or November. Hopefully getting back to work at the end of this month
sorry to hear the fluid is building up again, take care
hi to everyone else
love n hugs
Hi girls - not been on for a while. Had a good few days in London We did a lot of walking around - mostly in shops. Got quite tired and my arm with Lymphoedema become very swollen and sore. Think it was the heat that caused it. Been getting massage for this which seems to help. Going to get measured for sleeve - how glamourous is that!!!
Carol - hope your back is getting better. You must be so disappointed you had to cancel holiday. Will you manage to get away later.
Fiona - don't know when your off on holiday but have great time.
Sharon - how are you getting on with Xeloda. I didn't find it too bad.
Helen - how are you doing. Will you manage to get away this summer. Hope kids are OK.
Annie - have a great time with your family.
Saw Oncologist last week - getting Ultrasound and Xray this week.
He thinks fluid might be building up again.
Hope the sunshine comes back again soon.
Great catching up with you! Good luck Fee for your bone scan. You will get the results very quickly via your GP so no agonising wait. Have a great weel deserved break doll and hope to see you on your return. Hope you are feeling better soon Carol. I am still suffering from the fall I had Christmas week when I ended up underneath a bus in a blizzard! I find Tramadol quite effective for pain.
Well a packed wee time over the next couple of weeks girls. We ahve a big hen weekend for a really dear friend in Blackpool, followed by Lilly Rose's christening. She is such a wee doll! An Amy got out of Yorkhill on Monday - she was in for 6 weeks! She will be seeing a lot of hospitals alas, poor wee mite. She might need a trachioctomy till she goes to school and she was born without an ear too. But she's hime and happy!!
Sorry I didn't make Sharon's night - had an attack of diverticulitis, violently sick. I am on a whole load of stuff for IBS as well and they are keeping the symptoms under control. Might get surgery to remove the affected area next year, but am not uyp to it at the moment. The Buscopan and peppermint oil caps are working a treat for the spasms tho.
My big cat is just great Fee, he was like a kitten chasing a moth the other night! I cna now go away with an easy mind. This weekend everyone is going down south!! Thank God my cousin's boy is staying to look after all all our pets! My cousin Jaquie is flying in from Brussels and hert wee girl flew in on Sunday. Great having all the family together with causes for celebrations too. About time eh?
Hope you are all well and getting better and better with each passing day. Enjoy this glorious weather too!!!
Love and lollipops
Fiona have a fab time in lanza sorry not been on for a while but still in agony with my back after my fall, getting peed off now as we have had to cancel another holiday!!!
Hope everyone else ok
i went to spain one year and forgot my bikini and my towel and that was before i had chemo. LOL have a fab time xxx
had a great day today out with the girls and was great to see Sharon looking so well and she is sharing a room with you and hazel in whitby. was lovely to see Kim again and donna.
we are thinking 17th for next meet up but havent decided where yet.... maybe we should try and find somewhere a bit closer to the station.
How Ya all doing? Not been on for ages as I've been mega busy trying to get things at work tied up before I go on holiday tomorrow.
Ali...good to see you posting and that you're feeling a lot better, hope you can get the fertility thing sorted out soon. Good to hear the massage is working for you too..Poor Hazel's arm looks really uncomfortable in all that bandaging..but then if it works that's all that matters..
Helen, Hope you enjoyed camping with the family..the weather has been fab hasn't it?
Carol, Hope you've recovered from falling over...sounds very painful. You were lucky you didn't break something!!!
Sheila, Did you enjoy London?..you sound a lot better now..I hope things keep improving for you..
Annie, How are you recovering? any more trips down south? and how is the cat?
Everyone will have to say what dates are good for meeting up..I'm back on th 13th..The Edinburgh girls are all meeting up today and they normally make a date for the next one..I'll get Lulu to tell me when it is..
Well...just about all packed!! D-Day for my bone scan is 20th July...back still sore but not going to think about it..I have loads of painkillers...what more could a girl ask for!!!! I must admit my new, post chemo style of packing is very amusing!! can't remember a damn thing that's in the case!!...got a feeling I'll land in Lanzarote minus my knickers or something..actually I'll just go and check!!
Anyways..take care everyone, keep well...speak soon
Glad you’re feeling a wee bit better emotionally. Your onc sounds a bit like mine, a right old misery! I think you should go with Lulu’s advice and ask for a referral to the fertility clinic and get all the facts. Fertility is a huge thing and although I have 3 kids and wasn’t planning on anymore I found it really hard knowing that the decision to have more had been taken away from me. My onc didn’t help, he asked how many kids I had, if we were planning on more and when I said no, he said that’s great one less thing for us to worry about .... and proceeded to tell me that the chemo would destroy my ovaries – although they sprung back to life last month which was a bit of a shock!
Yvonne – sorry I don’t know about reduction options. My boobs are pretty small and lob-sided now, but hey that’s me I’ve got used to them. I don’t think I could face anyone surgery right now, although having said that my Dr had put in a referral for me today to get my gall bladder out 😞
Hope everyone is doing OK
