Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi all,
from Ashbourne area. Diagnosed in Feb 2012 after finding a lump under my left arm in January. Already been through five months of chemotherapy only to find that the biopsy had to be repeated because the tumour hasn't responded to treatment.
Biopsy done today! Don't even know when i am to be seen by my oncologist again yet. Feeling lonely and isolated, would be good to have someone who understands what i am going through to chat to.
Regards Andrea x
PS am a good listener too!

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Tracey
2nd session not as good as 1st one. Had back ache after and was just wiped out. Mild nausea persisting but don't want to take the extra meds they gave me for it cus they knocked me out!
Was mortified after my shower today by how much hair I lost during it. Am having the cold cap so only hope it starts slowing down now or may have to shave my head... I have a lot of hanut but not surehoes much I can keep losing and getting away with it. God this is so crappy isn't it....
My good week should be w/c 9th July so if you fancy meeting up then pm me and we can swap numbers etc.
Hope you're ok and feeling a bit better today
Lots of love
Emma xxx

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Drabble, sawmills isn't far from me at all - I'm in Cromford, I think I mentioned that before... How are you getting on now you're 3years post-treatment? I'm going for my 2nd chemo session tomorrow. Post treatment seems such a long way away... Xxx

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Tracy
Sorry to hear you've had a rough time of it 😞 Hope your next 3 sessions won't be as tough for you. Can they adjust your sickness meds to help with the nausea and sickness etc?
After 3 days of being bed ridden in the 1st week due to exhaustion, I have felt fine ever since. My hair is thinning now. I am using the cold cap so am hoping the hair loss slows down/stops soon, as it has with some women. Fingers crossed... I mentioned the nausea and indigestion to my onc who is going to give me meds to help so fingers crossed it will be a bit better this time. I ate some dried apricots which sorted the constipation out, rather aggressively it has to be said! I've got some senokot infor next time, which will hopefully be gentler lol
I had my bloods taken on Friday and these were good so am going for my 2nd session tomorrow. That came round soooo quickly.
Maybe when we're both a bit stabilised and in our 3rd week post-chemo we can meet up? We shall have to see how it goes, let meknew how you get on.
Take care xxxx

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Tracy, thanks for messaging back. I know Mansfield quite well - I used to live in Huthwaite, just outside Sutton in Ashfield so went to Mansfield a few times.
We had only been in Cromford 3 weeks when I found the lump! I remember sitting in my back garden surveying the view and thinking that if this turns out to be something sinister, then there are worse places where I can recover! Have to say, love Cromford and the area. Had never heard of it before we moved here. And have yet to sample the fish and chips, which must be popular as there are about 2 or 3 chippies in the square itself! Maybe when I'm back to eating normally... And haven't ventured near the canal yet either 😉

What side effects did you suffer with from Chemo? I'm just feeling sooooo exhausted and ever so slightly nauseous all the time at the moment. I hope it eases off over the next couple of weeks. I'm also suffering from indigestion, a really funny sweet taste in my mouth which is affecting what I want to drink and eat and am also now constipated!
As if this disease doesn't put us through enough hey... So glad you think it is doable though! xx

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Emma
i was diagnosed in December with bc I also had wle and snb which had clear margins and no lymph gland involvment mine was also grade 3 and stage 1 but mine was ER- . I have started chemo and have just had my 3 doses
I am 37 years old and i live in Mansfield which is near Derbyshire i go to matlock some time i love fish and chips from there i dont know why it always reminds me off the sea side. I also know cromford quite well i fell in the canal there when i was little when we go to visited we always laugh about it
I hope your 1st chemo has gone well and your not suffering to much with SE im hearing if you have any questions i have suffered with quite a few se but chemo is doable and we we will get throught this
Lots of love Tracy xxxx

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Emma,

I hope your first chemo went ok and your side effects are small.

I'm coming up to the first anniversary of finding my lump. I'm 43 and had been married just a month when I found my lump, grade 3, Er + - I had a WLE, 6 FEC, rads and I'm now on tamoxifen.

I'm in Derby, so would be happy to have a natter anytime! I'll drop you my details on a pm. There are a few of us from Derby but since the BCC site has changed we've not been on here too much!

Take care

Axx

Re: Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi Emma,
I used to live in Derbyshire but now live in East Sussex. I come up to Derbyshire about every 3 months to visit friends, family and see my clients, as I'm an accountant. I'm due to come up in about 4 weeks time and know Cromford quite well.
I was DX with BC in Sep 11 and since then I was put on hormon therapy treatment for 3 months, had a left mastectomy and left axiliiary cleareance and finally had radiotherapy which finished exactly a week ago. Because of a minor heart problem and having a good response to the hormone therapy I don't have to have any chemo.
If you would like to get together for a chat and a cuppa for some moral support I could certainly meet you in your lovely town of Cromford. If you add me as a friend I'll give you my contact details.
I wish you all the best with your treatment. LOL Helen

Anyone in the Derbyshire area?

Hi
I was diagnosed with BC in April and since diagnosis have had WLE and SNB which fortunately showed clear margins and no spread to the lymph nodes. However, it also showed that it was a Grade 3, Stage 1, ER+ which means that I start a 6-cycle course of FEC Chemo tomorrow (eek) followed by a 3 week course of Rads and a 5 yr course of Tamoxifen. I am 39 and now also face an infertile future, as I am also childless and my partner and I had been trying for a baby before we found out I had cancer.
I just wondered if there were any ladies in the Derbyshire area who are recently diagnosed and who are at a similar stage to myself. Would be nice to have a bit of local support where perhaps we could meet up from time to time to give each other that extra bit of support and friendship and compare notes...
I live in Cromford, just outside matlock.
Would love to hear from anyone in the Derbyshire area.
Emma xx
