Awaiting appointment & advice please

Evening ladies,
I’ve just joined this forum & read through some of the posts which have been really helpful.

I found a hard lump in my right breast (near the centre of my chest) approx. 2 months ago. I can only feel it whilst lying flat on my back.

I went to see my gp 3 weeks ago. He had a student doc in with him & they felt the lump and asked me to come back in 3 weeks time as possibly hormonal.

I went back to see my gp today. I was feeling fine about it but now slightly worried after my visit. My gp said it was visible when I put my hands behind my head. He said definite lump & said he didn’t think it was a cyst as hard & rooted so has referred me to breast clinic and not to worry.

However, I’ve come home & googled ‘hard & rooted’ (I know!) and now concerned. The lump doesn’t cause any pain at all and only noticeable when I feel it.

Does anyone have any experience of ‘hard & rooted’ lumps that they would like to share or any advice whilst I await appointment please?

Thank you xx

Hi Laura1983

It sounds like you’re having a pretty difficult time at the moment.  Whilst you are waiting for the other users to reply with their support do give the BCC helpline a call on 0808 800 6000.  Here you can share your thoughts and concerns with a member of staff who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical information.  Lines are open weekdays 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

Hi Laura,I didn’t even have a lump when I was diagnosed through routine mammogram.I think G.P will normally refer you if they can’t rule out something sinister, but that doesn’t necessary mean it is cancer.Even specialist breast units need to a number of tests to confirm what they are looking at.When is your appointment?

Thanks for your reply Jill. I’ve not yet received an appointment unfortunately, it has only been 2 days since u saw my GP though. I go away with my kids 2 weeks today though so hoping it’s before then!

It’s comforting reading the posts on this site to know that I’m not alone with this anxiety.

Hope you’re ok xx

You should ring breast unit and tell them you have holiday booked they will hopefully see you before. Most people seem to get seen within 2 weeks. My “lump” was removed end of June, all cancer gone, now waiting for radiotherapy which is to reduce chances of reoccurrence. If you do get diagnosed come and talk to people in the just diagnosed section there is lots of support and advice to be had.Good luck.

Have my appointment at 1430 tomorrow. Feeling very anxious!

The lump I have is not obvious - have to have a good feel to detect it, however I have noticed some thickening in the same breast this last week but I am on my period. Driving myself crazy with worry tonight!

Good luck Laura it’s horrible I know ,at least you will know what your are dealing with today one way or another.

How did you get on Laura?
