Re: Back Tightness after LD Flap

Hi Golilocks, I had mastectomy and immediate reconstruction as well as as an axilliary clearance.I think this may be the main reason I had physiotherapy although even just having the muscle moved to your front would require some input from a physio. The body needs to get used to where the new muscle is. I.hope this helps. thx michele.

Re: Back Tightness after LD Flap

Hi Spike, I hope by now the tight feeling in your back has resolved. Were you assigned a physiopherapist after your reconstruction. I was and she showed me the gentle massages on back to keep it supple. if you are still having problems it might be worth asking to ne referred to one who specialises in this area. Hopw that helps

Re: Back Tightness after LD Flap

Hi sdfmeg,
Thanks for your advice, I've checked it out and the video does look promising. I do have a few issues with people touching the scar and the numb area of my back which I am working on, I do think I actually recovered my range of movement back very quickly so was discharged from Physio before the massage could begin. Think I will see if I can get someone to try this, thank you.

Re: Back Tightness after LD Flap

Hello, Spike1960,

Sorry to hear you are still feeling uncomfortable after your flap reconstruction. I believe this is to do with scar tissue. If you can loosen it up this should help.

If you Google "massage after LD flap reconstruction" you should come up with a YouTube video from someone called Marnie Clark. Probably worth talking to your medical team to check it's ok, but it seems like a good idea as far as I can tell.

good luck!

Back Tightness after LD Flap

Hi, I had an LD recon 9 months ago and am really struggling with pain in my back, there seems to be no flesh left on that side and it feels tight all the time. I still do the stretching exercises, but in the last couple of months it seems to have got worse rather than better. I have started yoga hoping the stretching will help, just wondering how long this goes on for or if it will ever improve. I'm on painkillers from the doc (they do do something as I've found out when I cut them down to see if they did lol) Anybody else had this problem?
