Helen can see the statistics stacking up in Triphazard's findings following a study which compared breast cancer rates among a handful of women and found conclusive evidence of a drop in the chances of getting the disease among those who wore pink as a child.
She and her sister also wore identical dresses in different colours and she, being the older sister, got the blue one while little sis got the pink - same with pyjamas. Must be why I got BC.
Am now wondering by what % a woman's risk of developing breast cancer decreases for every year she wears pink.
On the bright side Helen is counting her blessings after being informed by smug, glib, female newsreader that a cancer diagnosis today is no longer a personal catastrophe. That's alright then.
HBCM is rolling on the floor at the thought of norberte wearing pink and is most grateful to tors for putting that mental image in her head. ROFLMAO doesn't begin to touch it.
And yes, I know I've never actually SEEN norberte but the picture in my head is most definitely of the unpinkest person on the planet. The funniest part of that picture is the expression of sheer disgust on N's face when forced into baby-pink lacy frills, no - no - stop it - my ribs are hurting! - stop - hahahahahahahaha..... clunk. (That's the sound of me laughing my head off.)
Having looked back on a family photo of vickie and her sister wearing identical dresses in different colours in the early 1980s that she has finally answered why it was she who caught bc, and wishes her mum had bought two blue dresses instead of one blue, one pink.
Vickie advises norberte to have intense course of pinkification and be grateful that, as itv news explained yesterday, a breast cancer diagnosis is no longer the personal tragedy it was a decade ago.
Vickie is mending her ways after yesterday's media coverage of why she caused her own bc at 36, and has decided to take on board the lessons learnt yesterday by never reading/watching/listening to the "news" again.
Meanwhile vickie is draggingher husband to look round houses this morning in the classic bc avoidance/fresh start/ manic activity coping strategy which, although tiring and possibly providing useful divorce petition fodder at a later stage, sure beats the depths of despair and anger reached earlier this week.
Midge has photographic evidence that she did year pink as a child, so it must have been all the booze and kebabs that made her 'catch' cancer. Although Midge Her 2 + so not oestrogen fed so does that mean she can raid the pick and mix?
Oh well maybe it was the wrong shade of pink.
However Midge is delighted that the news has moved on. It is a shame that all that bc publicity has just left us seething.
Sarah has had the best nights sleep in a long time & is not as worried about starting chemo next week as she was but wishes she too had worn pink as a child 🙂
CM thinks Trip is brilliant and has identified what CM did to give herself cancer. Can't have been the no. of kids (4) or how long she breastfed them (all for over 12 mths) or the hormones (had the pill for a couple of years but couldn't get on with it so used something else) or HRT (still pre-meno) or diet (has been reasonably healthy) or exercise (fairly active physically) or alcohol (enjoy a pint but not a complete lush) so it must have been because I didn't wear pink as a child.
That or eating too much peanut butter.
Like wot I said on the radio yesterday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00d9b45/Danny_Pike_04_02_2011/ from about 48 minutes in. Whittered on about hair to start with, eventually got the chance to whinge about the statistics stuff.
MG is patrolling too and wonders why she just can't sleep
CM needs to copy norberte and get OFF the laptop. (But I've been out for a long while today and there're so many posts to catch up with!)
Sophie thinks that maybe Jane refused to wear pink as a child. Sophie refused and thus deservedly lost a breast at 41.
Jane is wincing at norberte's blood extraction experience, particularly as she had an excruciating one herself from back of hand while canula was occupying inner elbow with anti-b drip during neutropenic episode.
Jane is also wondering if Jenny Murray was on WH today and if there was any mention of BC?
Jane is neither fat nor an alcoholic but got BC anyway. She must have done something else to deserve it.
CM has given up listening to the radio, but may give Woman's Hour a go later. One of the WH presenters had cancer, I think it was BC, so has personal experience of it. So I'm looking forward to a SENSIBLE examination of the latest reports rather than the "it's all your fault" stuff. Hopefully things said on WH can get disseminated to the rest of Auntie Beeb and then to the wider public.
Aww, poor Norbs!
HBCM is chuckling at the timestamp on norberte's last post - you were four minutes late, woman!
CM is also yawning a lot, so needs to take the cat up to bed so he can keep her warm and cosy. (But probably not quite yet, still some more of today's posts to read...)
Vickie....is very pleased to read gerbera's inaugeral bc related face book style status smile post and is happy to share Mr Nytol around, in a non drug dealing kind of way. And also in a non pimping kind of way.
Moving on swiftly, vickie also believes she can restore norberte's marital bliss by suggesting purchase of valentines gift ipad/ snazzy new laptop which holds onto its lead, plus installing spare quilt/pillows by the bedside to cushion aforesaid device from the unwelcoming cold floor when it falls. Also worth trying head angled to one side saying please can i chat to you in the small hours when i am so very scared and alone....as in vickie's experience this makes nightime bcc stalking a preferable spousal nightime activity.
Gerbera is wondering if Vickie and Evie would consider sharing Mr Nytol even more, as lack of sleep and starting back at work is not a good combination.
Gerbera is also chuckling at the stories about things ending up in the washing machine or loo when not meant to, as sound v familiar. Is begrudgingly (sp?) thinking that Orange may have had a point when not letting her have an i-phone seeing as her work pager has been dropped down the loo once upon a time....
LiF is gleefull and totally happy she had last TAX today and is feeling fine...knows she will feel sh1te by Sunday bur dosent care as its all over....Rads planning and tatoos on Monday!!!
Helen is hoping the wig she gets tomorrow is funky!
Vickie- i see mr nytol has been two timing me with you!!!
Vickie....will be having another hot date with mr nytol.
EVIE will mostly be taking night nurse tonight...god bless it
HBCM is feeling bright and refreshed, after a lovely nap. The not sleeping had caught up with me big time, but after a good night last night and an hour's kip today, I'm raring to go! Hope that doesn't mean I'll be up all night tonight though.
HBCM is also very chuffed at 14-yr-old daughter for her fundraising efforts. I went into school today to be in her assembly that she's giving to all the year groups and she was fab. What a twinkle star!
Sarah is feeling a little brighter this morning after having a major wobble yesterday courtesy of Mr Google who she will now be staying away from 🙂
Night nurse contains antihistamine doesn't it? Rusty can confirm that antihistamines knock her out completely, at least for the first few hours of the night. Took piriton for rads rash last night and was crashed out in bed by 8.30
Wide awake at 4 am though, and afraid to take any more as worried about driving to hospital for today's appointment!
Midge is going for a totally pointless post chemo 'haircut '..... Meh!
Margeurite, night nurse works for me.
Marguerite appreciated norberte's sentiment... this no sleeping is hard, I've been on youtube for hours watching UFOs!! Marguerite will be at pharmacy today; night nurse, nytol, kalms... any other suggestions?
Marguerite wants to sleep
Welshgirl just wants sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
And of course to wake up to a perfect arm!
Thoroughly fed up of broken limbs now....
Deffo...now what about war, weather and what we really want!!
Vickie thinks thats a fantastic point and is happy to put all blame on the damned tiger, long live the rabbit. X
Maria is glad the year of the tiger is over and Chinese Rabbit year has started.
She has been thinking of Vickie and Evie too, as well as everyone else with bc
