Best Foot Forward Health Walks - Manchester

The health walks for people who have had a breast cancer diagnosis are now up and running in the Greater Manchester area. They provide an opportunity to do gentle exercise in the supportive company of others who have had similar experiences.
The health walks are suitable for all abilities and last between 30 minutes to an hour. Trained Breast Cancer Care walk leaders are on hand to guide the group round the set route and afterwards the group head to a local café for a cuppa and a chance to have a chat. Walkers can bring a family member or friend with them on the walks.
The health walks take place in two locations on alternate weeks:
Wednesdays - Worsley woods/ Bridgewater Canal, Bridgewater Pub, 23 Barton Road, Worsley, Manchester M28 2PD. Registration at 10.15, walk starts at 10.30am
Saturdays - Chorlton Water Park, Maitland Avenue, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester M21 7WH. Registration at 9.15am, walk starts at 10.30am
We’ll be posting upcoming dates of the Best Foot Forward Health Walks in this thread. If you’re interested in coming along just check the dates and meet the group at the designated meeting point, or reply to the thread and one of the walk leaders will get back to you

Bumping this up

Fabulous idea but as i’m in the Midlands no good for me, do you know if this will be rolled out countrywide?

Might be a good idea to have them in Cheshire as well as Manchester as some of us don’t live in the centre of Manchester and find it difficult to get to your meets What about around Stockport area etc.,

Be great to have these rolled out to other areas further South, such as Herts!

Chascat and Mejane - It’s great that you’re interested in the Best Foot Forward Health Walks. The walks are part of an initial pilot in the North England region so we’re trialling them in 3 locations to start with - Manchester, Calderdale & Kirklees and Barnsley. During the pilot we’ll be looking at the way the walks are planned and organised to see what works and what could be improved, with a view of coming up with a model for the health walks that can then be rolled out in other areas of the UK. Best thing to do will be to keep an eye out on the forum or the website for future announcements
Assisi - The locations of the walks was the most difficult part to decide on in the planning process and it’s a shame that you’re keen to join a walk but they’re not in your local vicinity. One of the possible developments for the Manchester walks would be to expand the number of locations to include a wider geographical area. It’s probably not going to happen for a while so again the best thing to do would be to keep an eye out here or on the website. You’re obviously very welcome to join one of the existing walks if you feel able to in the meantime

NiK Thank you so much for your reply I will indeed look out for any further posts by yourself or other BCC’s
much obliged

The autumn schedule for the Best Foot Forward is now available on our website www.breastcancercare.org.uk/bestfootforward. We’ve made some changes to the dates, times and meeting points for both the Worsley woods and Chorlton water park walks so if you’re keen on joining us on a walk please have a look at the walk schedule to get the right details.

The main changes are:

Worsley woods - A monthly Saturday walk in addition to the fortnightly Wednesday walks. We’re now meeting at the Barton Arms pub, where we can kindly park for free.

Chorlton water park - New fortnightly walks on Friday mornings, plus a monthly Saturday walk. The meeting point is now the Christie Fields pub where there’s free parking.

Hope to see you at a Best Foot Forward walk

Assisi - The Macmillan information and support service at Wythenshawe hospital are in the process of changing their weekly health walks location for people affected by cancer.
