I only found out yesterday after 9 months, that you shouldn't take bisphonates with hard tap water.  Yup, guess what, I have hard tap water and that's what I've been taking it with every morning!  How did I miss that bit of information?  Can't belive it!  Never noticed that info before!

I read in daily mail yesterday that a lot of hospitals are prescribing biowhatsics (or bone juice!) As a aftercare treatment for primary bc as standard as they can prevent secondary bone mets by a huge percentage and they only cost 42p a day.
So it looks like it could be standard after treatment

I've just started the weekly bifossywhatsits as my DEXA scan showed change from just in osteopenic range to almost osteoporotic, even though I had been taking the Adcal D3 for over 2 years. Have also had to change from anastyzole to exemessy (sorry, exemestane, I must stop being silly). Yes MM, you are right in that anastrozole does seem to have a big impact on bone health (I also now have osteoarthritis in spine and hip, grr), so why I was ever started on that I don't know.  I haven't been told how long I will be taking the bifossy.

Geranium - I was diagnosed more than 2 years ago, but think that taking the bifossy within 6 months is more to do with preventing recurrence. If you need bifossy for your bone health, then your 3 years will be ok.

Does anyone know how long you would normally take the daily bisphonates and Adcal for?  I'm on Anastrazole for the next 8 years and been on all three since Jan and I just wondered whether it is the same length of time for all of them or not?

I didn't have bisphonates whilst on Tamoxifen for 2 years, was only put onto it afer changing to Anastrazole as I believe that drug can cause some problems and the Adcal and bisphonates help to mitigate that.

Hi Geranium

Have researched bisphosphonates and you have to start them within 6 months of starting active treatment

It appears that not all NHS trusts are prescribing them

I wasn't given the option of bisphosphonates, only offered Tamoxifen - 56 this year - I am having radiotherapy following WLE.  Don't know if having RT makes a difference to the type of hormone therapy you are offered.

Best to talk to your oncologist for the options available to you.

Had breast cancer 3 years ago, stage 1 no chemo or radiotherapy.  Had mastectomy and have taken tamoxifen ever since.  Was wondering if this treatment is still offered to people like myself age 53 or wether the treatment has been updated to bishophostates and Armidex.  Is it too late to have Bishophostates 3 years after being diagnosed.
