Bone mets - shoulder replacement?

Hi, Does anyone out there have experience of this op? I have read several posts about hip replacements which have been well tolerated but my original post (15th August on Treatments -Surgery - probably wrong section to post about mets.)has had no replies. Just wondering what the process involves as I am being referred for consideration for such an op on my left arm. Hope eventually to drive again as currently can’t manage handbrake or gears - is this doable does anyone know?

hi, i don’t know whether i can offer much advise but i used to work on an orthopaedic ward 10 years ago and we did shoulder replacements for artritis. shoulder replacements were not as common as hip or knee replacements back then ! but patients did benifit from them, less pain and better movement. That was the aim of the operation. I would think that if you get a good range of movement following surgery you should be able to drive. good luck x

Hi teacherjy

Sorry I have no experience of shoulder (or any) bone ops. but I wondered if you’d considered getting your car modified so that you could drive more easily, with or without improved movement in your arm/shoulder? Most car dealers have “motabiity” specialists, who can tell you how you might go about doing this.

Just a thought – hope you get more info about the proposed surgery, and that your arm/shoulder movement can be improved, very soon.

Hi Marilf and flo12,
Thank you for your posts - they’re informative and helpful. I’m certainly going to look into mobility adaptations to my poor battered little Polo (it’s about as youthful and healthy as I am right now) but it does sound as though I might have a chance of regaining my independence viz the driving. People are so kind but I hate being beholden to folk for lifts and public transport ain’t great for getting me to the places I want to go. Ooh what a whinger!

I’m glad to say that the chemo etc has greatly reduced my pain levels already so desperately hoping that the results of my MRI show good things - should hear tomorrow from Onc. Thanks again.
