Re: Booked in for mastectomy but now have pain in other breast.....what should I do?

hi Katebil,
Just wanted 2 say to you,
I had Lx of my r breast in jan had mammogram of both breasts with ultrasound of r breast for dx. A while after my surgery i became aware of twinges in my L breast. I spoke to my breast care nurse an reluctantly my surgeon agreed for me to have an ultrasound of my L breast, there explanation was that an ultrasound was like lookin for a needle in a hay stack.?????Didnt understand that as my sister was refered to the family clinic an they done an ultersound of both her breasts???? why would they do that if ther was no point???? Anyway as i say they did the ultrasound and wer i complained of the pain they found some small cysts. Iwould mention it for your own peace of mind. I no i was much happier that i mentioned it an it was addressed.
best of luck

Hi there! I would say - are you going mad - NO, it is rational to worry when you have had a big shock. Should you say anyything to your consultant - YES. He/she will be able to reassue you from an informed viewpoint. It's great for friends to say I am sure you will be fine but you need to hear that from someone with experience.
I had mammogram and ultrasound on both sides (and biopsy on "bad" side) and afterwards felt my lymph nodes on the "good" sde were sore. My surgeon examined them for me when I went for my post op check and reassured me that they felt fine and that it had probably been a reaction to the biopsy etc even though it had been on the other side. I felt much better hearing it from him even though they had calmed down by that point anyway.

Hi Katebil

You're definitely NOT going mad. I had my mx in December, with snb. Now I'm having chemo, but I still get paranoid about every little twinge, pain, lump and bump. When I had my initial triple test, they definitely did a mammogram of right side (lump was in left) which hurt like hell, and I know there is nothing there, but if I feel any pain there I worry and have to check for more lumps. There aren't any. Good luck with your mx, which incidentally is on the day of my 3rd chemo cycle. Take care, I'm sending big hugs.

Re: Booked in for mastectomy but now have pain in other breast.....what should I do?

hi
when i was examined (mammogram and ultrasound and ct scan) i was told they check both ( i thought they were looking at the wrong one) so if i were you i would certainly mention it so they can put your mind at rest but not spend too much time worrying about it.
youre probably not going mad, but you might think things that seem a bit mad, i know i did, im only 1 week post mastectomy so its still fresh and those crazy thoughts pop up from time to time!
if you have a number for your bcn give her a ring and tell her that you are worried, she might be able to explain, or find out for you.
good luck, happy thoughts,

Booked in for mastectomy but now have pain in other breast.....what should I do?

I was diagnosed on 15th feb and am booked in for a right breast mastectomy on 21st March after 7 biopsies, 2 ultrasounds and an MRI. I was told my left breast was clear but now have pain and can feel 'lumpy areas' in my left breast......am I just going mad and should I say anything to my consultant or should i hope its just my hormones playing havoc?
