Re: Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Ah consultant did the mammogram.....ok....I get it....I had a different person do that and view the mammogram. Yes, it's not a problem, as just interested really.

Re: Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Hi charys

The consultant took the ultrasound.  I then went for the mammogram and the consultant told me  that they wouldnt be seen until today.

The lady who took the mammogram also said it wasnt her viewing the mammogram and they would be seen today.

This also happened to my friend, so I accepted this was how it was.

Re: Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Well, that's very encouraging isn't it.....I think your consultant seems quite confident and although it's hard to totally let go of the fear until the final results  are in.....I would feel more relaxed if I were you ?

Out of interest, as your pattern of mammogram and ultrasound, and results coming back later for a mammogram are not usual......how was that performed....who did them as usually mammogram results are instant? I'm not saying there is a reason to be concerned by the way, just not heard of just an ultrasound done and then mammogram results coming later.

Re: Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Thank you for asking, sorry, I've not been on earlier.

The ultra sound came back completely clear.  The consultant  actually said my type of indentation wasn't one that should raise alarm, however it definitely would need checking.

I did have a mammogram and those results should be with me by the beginning of next week, however he was confident all was well.  So let's hope so.  I certainly feel a little better this evening.

Re: Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Hello peacock,

The process will probably start with the consultant talking with you directly and asking you to describe/ show your symptoms, and then more than likely a physical examination both lying down and with you sitting up, with possibly your arms above your head. If the consultant feels, as Ann says, that further investigation is required ( and this doesn't mean it's cancer, just that they need to account for being unsure and need to be able to 100 percent say what it is) then it will move on to mammogram and ultrasound with the relevant people,  maybe biopsy (possibly ultrasound guided biopsy) if they still aren't sure from the visual checks. If you are at a one stop clinic all of this could happen in the same day, many private clinics are one stop. The consultant may speak to you at the end following all the investigation they do, to explain any next steps and the outcome. You will have to wait for a few days for the results though, if a biopsy was done.

i hope this helps. X

Re: Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Hi Peacock,

This is always the worst time & inevitably, the mind goes into a bit of overdrive, so trying to take one stage at a time helps to handle this, although it's difficult to do, we've all been there!

You are right about what to expect, but biopsy may not be necessary if it is clear what it is. My husband came in with me, apart from the mammo (X-rays).

Hopefully, all will be fine - it mostly is, so if, on the off chance, it is more serious, then you'll cross that bridge of telling family & friends if it comes to that (bc is very treatable these days).

Fortunately, you are in the right place & getting it sorted.

Breast clinic 1st appointment tomorrow

Can anyone run through what I should expect tomorrow?

Ive found a little dent in my right breast when I raise my arm above my head, or clench my arm.  (I dont actually have muscle, but when I attempt to clench the dent appears)

ive been told to expect a mammogram, ultra sound and maybe a biopsy?  My husband is coming with me, will he be allowed in the room with me during those things?

Its my period so I'm now paranoid that my tender breasts normally arnt  this tender, that the aches and pains in my body are all related.

Ive decided to go private as my NHS appointment was going to be another 2 weeks. Ive told obviously my husband and my best friend.   How on earth do we  tell people, our family, if the diagnosis isn't good.  I know we aren't supposed to worry, but how do we not?
