Breast lump has grown...

Hi everyone, just after some much needed advice. Nearly 2 years ago I went to my GP after discovering a firm irregular flatish lump in my left breast, the best way to describe it, is that it felt like a piece of overcooked beefburger! After examination he agreed there was an obvious lump and referred me for a mammogram. At my appointment the specialist that initially examined me asked me to first remove my bra and raise my arms, to which she responded, ’ ok i can see the lump from here’ ( how terrifying). After a mammogram and then an ultrasound, i was sent on my way being told nothing was detected.
It is now nearly 2 years later and i have become increasingly aware of the same lump having got larger. I also have occasional discomfort in my shoulder, a cross between an ache and shooting pains. I know i need to go back to my GP, but i don’t want to be fobbed off again. Can i insist on a biopsy? I know that scans cant always detect lumps in dense breast tissue. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Sorry for the long-winded post, but any advice is very much appreciated.

Hi Suisse, just finished reading your post, and am surprised the first time you noticed your lump, they didn’t take biopsys then.you have to go back to your doctor and get referred back to the hospital and get it checked out.you shouldn’t have to feel like this, that they are not taking this seriously enough.about the dense tissue,my lump wasn’t showing up on the mammogram.so I was a little concerned.thank goodness us ladies check our breasts.Good luck, and I hope it’s good news!! Let me know how you get on  hugs xx

Thanks Daisykins, next time i will be a bit more assertive! It makes me wonder how many people get overlooked, wasting time that can’t be afforded! I’m sure i will be ok though

Hi
Sounds like you’re having similar problems to me :frowning:
I, like yourself feel like I’m not being listened to.
Or taken seriously.
They even mentioned counselling the 2nd time I went back!
I was made to feel like a hypochondriac or hysterical.
But as you said too, I’m also very aware that things can be missed or not detected on scans etc.
I’m afraid I don’t have any useful advice except to say, keep on at the GP’s
You know your own body & if something doesn’t feel right, don’t be fobbed off.
Insist on another US or mammogram.

Good luck, keep us posted how you get on x

Hi Rachael, so sorry you are having similar problems, we are told to trust our instinct, aren’t we? This is why I want to insist on a needle biopsy for peace of mind. I haven’t managed to book an appointment yet as my work don’t allow me to during work hours, but in off at the end of this month, so hopefully will get some answers. I hope you get the answers you need to. Let us know how you get on.
