Hi,

My op was the 22nd Sept and I get twitching though its not for no reason now - its usually when I sneeze or change from 1st to 2nd gear! My boob had a small implant as well and is still rock hard in places and has a couple of dents in it, not to mention the dark hairs and large pores that are appearing!! I haven't asked about any of this yet as am still fixated on my back wound. Twitching doesn't particularly bother me but if I do remember to ask about the other boob issues I will ask and let you know what they can or do do.

My surgeon didn't do it, and said that he would be reluctant to do it in the future, due to the risk of shrinkage. I was'reconstructed in August, so hopefully things may improve on their own......or is that just wishful thinking!

The consultants at the hospital I had my LD done at do not routinely cut the nerve to stop the twitching as there is a risk of the tissue shrinking, but will reluctantly do it if the twitching is really problematic. Though you should be careful if you've had a nipple added because if shrinkage does occur you could have an asymmetrical look (i.e one nipple looking at the floor and one looking up to the sky!) or lopsided if you've had a reduction, lift or an implant on unoperated side - I believe that shrinkage doesn't always happen as I have heard of a couple of people who have had the nerve cut sometime after the original op and not suffered shrinkage but it is a side effect you have to consider

Well Tuesday it may well settle down but after 3 months mine started to get worse and has become increasing and progressive, to use their terminology and it all down to the surgeon 's pratice of NOT doing as I said above, therefore entirely avoidable.

This is why I want to canvass who does what. There is also a reluctance by my insurers to pay towards having this corrected as there is no procedure code for the surgery and I feel that there should be as it is not uncommon. It would help of course if the surgeons did the job correctly in the first place. They should assume this will be a problem and then not risk it becoming a problem that we have to wait and wait and wait to be fixed after all the other bl**dy waiting for so-called reconstruction.

Anyway, please folks, find out and let me know because I can, and will, take this further with regards to "best practice" as I have 2 or 3 plastic surgeons backing me on this. Needless to say it wasn't a plastic surgeon who operated on me ...

Mine twitches, jumps and is hard as a cannonball 8 weeks post surgery. It also gets what my friend describes as late pregnancy contractions, suddenly contracting so that the skin is hard and then, though still the recon remains hard, the skin relaxes. No idea what my surgeon's practice is - but BCN says the twitching is normal and takes many months to settle so suspect that he does'nt.

I haven't had any twitching etc so I imagine he done what your asking about. Does yours twitch? Is there a reason why you are 'canvassing'?

I will say mine probably does. Mine have never moved, voluntarily or otherwise.

I was going to say mine doesn't as I can flex my boob like Mr Universe! But do you just mean involuntary twitching?

Hi

I'm canvassing for information on your surgery, specifically "does your surgeon routinely detach the humeral insertion of the latissimus dorsi and denervate the flap" thus preventing some of the awful twitching and spasms that we are at risk of if they do not do this.

Please respond if you know your surgeon has done this and if you don't know then would you please ask them if this is their "best practice".
