Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz,
Oh dear, what a long day it's going to be for you tomorrow! Don't read too much into the phone thing - I asked if I could get results by phone and was told they always prefer to give them face to face .
We'll all be there with you in spirit.

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz.....whatever the outcome, at least you will know one way or the other. Don't think BCNs are 'allowed' to tell you biopsy results over the phone as the results and any proposed treatment - sometimes offered for fibroadenoma, or a 'watch and wait' - will have been discussed by a multi-disciplinary team. Sending you a virtual hand hold....take care M x

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz

Sorry to hear you're in such a state of worry. I just wanted to say that I am now 45 and still get fibroadenomas, in fact they have probably just discovered another two today! ( I went for a scan and had core biopsies done ). My last one was two years ago.
So, please take some reassurance from this and I hope all goes well tomorrow x

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

I'm so stealing that, Maryland!
My poor husband started out as a C (totally my own fault since I was struggling to cope with my own emotions and couldnt cope with his too) then yo-yo'd between A & B with a steadily increasing look of panic in his eyes😜.

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Love your husband descriptions Katt 🙂 Mine is weirdly a combination of A and B. We have to remember that this is just as scary a time for them....after all the person that they love is behaving out of character faced with their current situation and they can't do right for doing wrong! I had several meltdowns and not sure he knew how to handle a whirling dervish in the lounge with a towel over my head....yes really!!!! Just to raise a smile on this Easter Sunday....I call my husband of nearly 38 years (known him for over 40) my 'first' husband just to keep him on his toes...he loves it really:)

On my office noticeboard in school (many challenging situations - children and staff hehehe) I have the following strategies for 'calming down' and use them quite often!! Also use it with the children (all have special needs) and get them to take their pulse before and after.....it's amazing to see how well it works.

Tell yourself to STOP (I do actually point a finger at myself and give myself a good talking to!)
Give your brain thinking time
Tell yourself you can handle this
Say to yourself....be calm.....be calm.....be calm
Walk away
Count backwards from 10, 20 or even 100!!
Tell someone else how you feel
Breathe deeply four or five times
Tense and relax your muscles
Take a little exercise (lifting a glass doesn't count)
Go somewhere and shout
Picture yourself dealing with the situation calmly and strongly

If nothing else, hopes this makes you smile imagining me doing this several times a week!!! I do actually LOVE my job 🙂 xx

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

An, now husbands! Here's what I think I've learned about husbands in all this ...
We have 3 main situations which may vary day to day :
Husband A is so worried he's wrapping us in cotton wool and we're cross cos we just want to be treated normally.
Husband B is trying to treat us normally and we're cross cos we think he doesn't care.
Husband C has been so protected by us that he has no clue how he's supposed to treat us!

Ok, so there is the thankfully rare subset of Husband D who reveals himself as the waste of skin he is and takes off at the first sign of trouble but I don't think you've got one of those!
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it's not a rational time for us and most of us thank our lucky stars to have someone to weather the storm with us.

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Whilst Google has its place (after all, how else would I have learned how to make Portugese custard tarts after returning from a trip to Lisbon?!?😉) it is also the perfect way to feed our anxieties. We believe only the articles that confirm our worst fears but remember, your consultant knows much more about you even after one appointment than Mr Google will ever know.

I know ......my husband is tops.......but i am afraid and i feel sore and well unusually pessimistic...even with promising words off consultant. ...... i was just shocked at the quickness of it all. 😨......ive googled myself out x

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz, all that does is confirm that you are absolutely normal! I was a complete basket case for the first few weeks and exactly as Maryland says I went Google mad which did nothing other than add to my distress. However, 5 months on, even with a cancer diagnosis, life is pretty much back to normal. I hope you have support at this difficult time but often it is easier to come on here and have a rant to those who have been there.
Hugs,

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz....same as kittkatt, have everything crossed for you :). From what I have researched, read, absorbed and learnt over the past three years, unless whatever is presenting in a breast can be aspirated (and fluid drawn out) which confirms a cyst, then breast services will almost always carry out a biopsy to confirm, deny, reassure and generally be on the safe side. If you hadn't had the biopsy you would be forever wondering 'what if..' I guess; I know I would! The sneaky nature of bc is that it can (rarely) hide behind something that presents on an image as non-sinister. Please try not to generally google; use trusted sites like this one, cancer research and macmillan which are genuine. There is some scary, out of date stuff out there. We are here to virtually 'hold your hand'....please keep in touch and do let us know how you get on.... Take care M x

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

I keep going over things in my head ......the consultant radiologist said if it is cancer its small... afterwards the specialist said she was not concerned. I am very confused ........i know they have to do biopsy but surely the radiologist knows !xxxx

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

That's really hard - universally everyone on here says that the waiting is the worst bit. I was fortunate to only wait a week for biopsy results although in my case the surgeon had already told me that he expected it would be cancer. Absolutely no point telling you not to worry but do try to keep thinking of the positives - more ladies referred to breast clinics do not have cancer than do.

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz,
Sounds very similar to my sister who has reminded me she was actually 50 when she had her fibroadenoma removed - I think if anything they tend to err on the side of preparing us for the worst so if your surgeon is being that reassuring it is more than likely she's right. Biopsy is definitely a sensible way to go to confirm. For reasons best known to herself my sister decided to leave hers alone once confirmed as benign but that meant it was much larger by the time she had it removed about 2 years later.
When is your biopsy planned for?

Re: Can fibtoadenomad occur age 45

Hi Mazz, my sister had a large fibroadenoma removed at the age of 48 having ignored it for a long time so yes, no reason they couldn't occur at 45.
