Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi you sound like you are doing great at least the worst is over and hopefully now you will continue to improve day by day. I just keep telling myself I just have to get through the first few weeks. I'm still concerned if I have enough fat there as I am only a size 10 but the PS seems happy that I have I guess I have to I trust that he knows best x

Re: Change of reconstruction

I'm 3 weeks post op today, it's still quite sore, I don't think it was as bad as we were expecting.

its hard being at home, seeing things that need doing and knowing that you can't do them.

The stomach scar is quite tender, especially with the binder holding me in.

i was allowed a shower last week, but I'm really looking forward to being able to have a bath.

i have a check up with my consultant on 22/12. Unless I have any problems x

Re: Change of reconstruction

I had an Ld with an implant 13 years ago. 3 weeks ago it was replaced with a Diep due to capsular contracture and my implant was leaking.

My surgeon has said that I may need to have some Lipofilling in the future for symmetry.

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi I just wondered as I did have Lat  Dorsi reconstruction with implant so have had to go through that with large scar on back now and will be also now having a DIep after developing capsular contracture and lipofill x2 re-absorbed 😞

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi Wilson_52 yes you have to give lipofill a go it may be all you need. Hi rosie14 did you also have a Lat Dorsi with the implants? Glad you don't have too long to wait now for for op, you get to the point that you just want it done. I have been on waiting list for 3 months op prob going to be around end of January x

Good morning ladies!

I too am in your club! Failed implants! I had tissue expanders inserted during db mx and had various issues with those then had to have them replaced with silocen implants only to have further issues grade 4 CC!🙀😬😡

have been on the waiting list for DIEP for 6 months now have a date 30/11!!! Feeling relieved but nervous!

Re: Change of reconstruction

Yes have heard fat can be reabsorbed- I'm worried about that but will give it a try as that's what PS has recommended to try first.

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi yeah I also have capsular contracture. I have had 2 x lipofill over last year which have all re-absorbed so now waiting for Diep it is a long road we have to travel but hopefully your lipofill will work and it will be ok it just hasn't worked for me. X

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi. Sorry to hear about your failed reconstruction. What happened? No I have caspular contracture and plastic surgeon has said lipofil before trying another type of reconstruction.

Hi Wilson_52

i have just seen your post. I had LD reconstruction with silicone implant 2 years ago this has now failed and I am now on the waiting list for a Diep reconstruction is this what you are now looking at?

Re: Change of reconstruction

I understand lipo can take several attempts as the body reabsorbs a lot of the fat each time. I suspect the main reason my surgeon is going through replacement rather than the same as you is due to the rotation of one of my implants.

I have just been to the Nicola Jane shop to get some front opening post surgery bras in readiness for next month, I managed with some soft non wired M&S bras last time but Trying these specialist bras on made a huge difference so soft so I am sure I will be a lot more comfortable post op.

It was just over 2 years ago that I had breast cancer diagnosis, (29 years after Hodgkin Lymphoma and the treatment that most likely caused my BC).

I was told a 2- 3month wait for my op and it will be 3 1/2 months so not too bad, hopefully your time scale will be similar.

Hope all goes well and you get your date soon. Xx

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi

I understand now about choice. The first PS said nothing can be done about the pain so we'll see if the 2nd one's right tho it could take a few lipo's. More anaesthetic's and time off work but needs must.

I can see why your nervous. I'm not sure how long you had bc - for me it's been 7 years.

Must admit thought when I saw my original PS he'd say I'll do a capsulectomy and replace the implant but I'll go with what he says.

There's no reason to think things won't work out for you this time. Just keep thinking how pleased you were the last time.

Told 3 month waiting list which translates to nearer 6 months!

All the best and let me know how you get on xx

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi Wilson52.

I understand where you are coming from with the pain and discomfort. My surgeon said nothing can be done for the pain 😞

I didn't really have a choice with type of reconstruction as the gold standard preferred choice of a DIEP was not suitable for me as I have had a lot of abdominal surgery, this was a disappointment as I liked the idea of removing some belly flat! My surgeon thought the LAT dorsi flap would have been too much for me as bilateral plus not enough flesh there at the time and I would have still needed implants in addition (nearly 2 stone heavier now though, so probably a different story now!).

I have just just received my op date for next month for my implants to be exchanged, fingers crossed these will work better. She did warn me of the risk of infection and losing them altogether, but I am happy to take the risk as not happy with the distorted look of my current reconstruction. I am hoping she can increase the size too as I went from a DD natural boob to barely a B cup.

it is good your have faith in your surgeon, I also do with mine.

i am not sure if I will have any other choices other than going flat if this one fails. I have considered just having them removed as don't like the feel of them, but that is probably due to the CC and rotation. When they were first done they looked amazing, so I am trying to keep optimistic that I can get a good outcome.

I hope all goes well with your lipofill, do you have a timescale when this will be done?

Best wishes Xx

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi hdsurvivor,

I have CC after 5 years having a silicone implant and had a scan as I have a lot of discomfort and pain. The shape is all distorted as well. CC was confirmed on scan. Saw a PS and was told nothing can be done for the pain and same would happen again if re done. Offered lipofil to help cosmetically. Was very disappointed as you can imagine. Thought maybe should ask about different recon as I can't live with this pain for the rest of my life. Asked GP to refer me to original PS ( it's all funding as he's in another health board ) for a second opinion.

He did and original PS said he would recommend lipofil to pad between the muscle and implant as everything had stuck together and become fixed. He also mentioned it will help kill nerve endings. If it helped cosmetically then it would be a bonus so I'm going along with that as I have every faith in him. If it doesn't work then I can have another type of recon.

Did you not have a choice of recon? Good luck xx

Re: Change of reconstruction

Hi. I had silicone implants with strattice (bilateral) 2 years ago and I am having them redone next month due to rotation and capsular contracture. I am quite nervous that the same thing will happen again as I am high risk of CC, though rotation shouldn't be an issue this time as my tear drop implants are being replaced with round ones. I think if I had the choice I would rather use my own tissue as more natural.

What at are you having done?

Change of reconstruction

Hi

Has anyone had a silicone implant then get a different type of reconstruction a few years later?
