I am about to have a mastectomy and a chest expander fitted in two days. I’m kind of panicking now as to wether the valve is visible under the skin and if you can feel it. Don’t ask me why this is because in the big scheme of things it’s not that important, but it’s really playing on my mind. Is there anyone out there with experience of chest expanders that can help with this question?

I had my mastectomy on the 1st September with chest expander, the port is not visible but you can feel it with your fingers. I have now had 150mls saline in mine and I am very happy with the way it looks, can be a bit uncomfortable for a few days but paracetomol or ibuprofen will help.
Get yourself a good front fastening bra got mine from Nicola Jane and a foam softie you can add or take padding out, my surgeon is adding 50mls at a time but always it is up to me If i want to take it slower.
