I went into my local bra shop and was fitted up with a lovely comfy bra. It is a mastectomy bra with pockets which I don't need, but website is www.anita.com x

Re: Comfortable bra 2 months after surgery.

Stella I can sympathise as I too am struggling with bras after my radical mastectomy in Jan . Due to angiosarcoma (result of radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer in 2009 ) I had to have my left breast and chest muscle removed . I have a huge scar running from my back into my right boob , which is still too sore to wear a bra or a softie .
I had big boobs before ( J cup ) and so used to wear M&S full support bras . All the soft body bras they recommend either don't fit or don't support what is left of my right boob . Plus my chest is so sore ,even a shirt touching my scar is agony . I am spending a fortune on bras in the hope they will be wearable , but sadly find they cripple me !! I really feel no one out there caters for bigger boobs in mastectomy wear .

It is really worth going into a shop who specialise in mastectomy bras. They will help find something that really fits and is comfortable. I have found Anita and Royce bras best but they all fit differently. I haven't liked any M&S bras and found John Lewis didn't have enough variety so I could get one that was right.
Best of luck

Comfortable bra 2 months after surgery.

Hi, I have been really struggling with bras since my mastectomy with immediate implant and reduction to other breast. I have been wearing maternity bras but the cup seams leave deep indentations and my under breast skin is red raw when I take them off. Apparently, I read somewhere, the skin is so sensitive because they stretch the skin very tightly when operating? As I have little sensation I am unaware of the damage, so definitely won't be looking for under wired bras for some time yet. I had been wearing my Macom post surgery bras most of the time but wanted alternative choice. I ordered a Royce bra online too big, cotton very soft bras same size in Evans too small. Marks and Spencer's only carry hideous bras in my size that are suitable because of sensitivity. I have looked high and low since beginning of January. I was in Debenhams Canterbury yesterday, no trained mastectomy fitters and no bras to try on, can only order online. That just doesn't work as they all vary so much in size. I was almost in tears, as shopping for bras just gets to me since my operation, especially when brushed off with the have to order online etc. then I spotted Belvia bras by the till and remembered reading an old post on this forum about them They are like a sports bra, crop top, but soft and seamless. I have worn one all day and so far so good. I am size 18, 40 to 42dd/e depending on manufacturer, and the large fits well. The support could be better, it's ok and I will forgo that for comfort. I figure I can wear a maternity bra over the top for extra support. The huge plus is they are on sale 50% off and I got 2 for £12.98. They may prove useful for others as an interim solution until fully healed. Also, for others dd+ debenhams have a range of nightwear with integral support for dd to g cup. I got a little black number with hot pink trim and the inner support actually covers my breasts with room to spare. Again since my operation I just cannot go to bed a la Marilyn Monroe, and have to cover up my scars. I was really struggling finding affordable attractive nightwear that offered sufficient coverage and helped me feel feminine, . Stella x
