I just came across this charity which is aimed at raising awareness about younger women with breast cancer and encouraging them to examine themselves properly and insist on a referral if they are worried.
I initially didn’t like the name, but they’re trying to appeal to teens and twenties, and the point is self-examination, so it does make sense.
I thought I would bump it up too as a friend told me about this charity and I am keen to organise an event to raise money for them.
So many women are concerned and too many young women have no clue/are not aware about checking their breasts unfortunately!
One of my friends told me she has never checked her breasts before I was dx…she did it for the first time over the summer and found a lump which is being investigated as we talk.
Take care and good luck to all with your treatment.
Fighter34 (was 34 when dx, had 8 rounds of chemo, having surgery next weekend!)
Hi I have been taking part in the hijack event and have been hijacking lots with my stickers.I have given stickers to my daughter and she has been hijacking her friends and work colleagues. The stckers have the coppafeel site address on and the words boob hijack.I think its a great idea and hopefully will raise awareness for younger women( and all women) to get to know their boobs and check regularly. best wishes Mel xx
Excuse me for posting on this thread but, as part of our ongoing service development, Breast Cancer Care is currently looking at how our services for younger women meet the needs of those of you who have been diagnosed in your twenties. We’ve drawn up a short questionnaire, attached, and would be really grateful if any of you who fit in this group would take a few minutes to fill it in and e-mail it back to us at <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%79%6f%75%6e%67%65%72%77%6f%6d%65%6e%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%79%6f%75%6e%67%65%72%77%6f%6d%65%6e%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script> by 10 December 2010.
My daughter and I were both diagnosed in the last 12 months with the same sort of breast cancer, me at 49 her at 26. Its very much a younger womans disease as well as older but gets little coverage about the younger womans risk! I support Coppafeel and wear their sweatshirt everywhere as a talking point…
