Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Good Morning!

Have just returned from a lovely stroll over the park with the pooch, had to fish him out of the lake after he fell in - he's a year old Yorkie and couldnt climb out himself, still saves bathing him!

Helen - I'll be thinking of you this week, so pleased you didn't have to wait long.

I'm more positive that I will go in for definate on the 30th June, I was due to go on a lovely boat trip up the Thames from Tilbury to Chelsea Harbour on the 2nd July but will have to cancel now.

Hope you all have a lovely day, I'm off to Connaught Waters with my tribe later for another long walk.

Love to you all,

Looks like we are in for sunshine this weekend - hurrah !

Sent Lenny a text this morning but haven't heard back from her so hope she's ok.

Went to my GP this morning to get sick note for work and she has given me antibiotics as she said the oozey bits probably won't heal without them - probably slight infection.

Helen - how many weeks were you before getting into wired bras ?

Have a good weekend everyone

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi there all sunshine again at last lets hope it stays for a while.
Helen i am in proper bras now and they are underwired! I am able to measure myself which is handy. Haven't spent alot on bras because of my forth coming op. They now measure band size but not cup anymore you have to guess the cup size! sounds strange but they say you have to be fit to a certain bra as they are all different shapes and of course so are our boobs! By getting the band size you measure then if its an even number add 4 and if its an odd number add 5 and that is a rough guild to your band size. Hope this helps very hard to put into words! Have a nice weekend all Love HelenXX

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi Anne,

I am still going to the Broomfield, but I've no doubt it will be under siege by aliens from a distant galaxy or something like that the night before I am due to go in for my op - I hope they don't take Mr. Dwiezulski away in their spaceship, I couldn't bare to have to go back down to the bottom of the waiting list for a different surgeon!

I now have a new date, 30th June. I got a letter today - which was a lot sooner than I anticipated, I had to wait 5 weeks for any kind of acknowledgement last time.

Helen, I hope all goes well for you next week - I shall be thinking of you. Shame we don't all live close by we could visit you in hospital you en masse!!

A fab weekend to you all,

Love,

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi Helen. We have the same problem, one hung low!. Have talked to the BCN who recommends buying a bra that fits the bigger boob then padding other side with "chicken fillets" - all good fun, and still better than that rotten prothesis. The big day is August bank holiday so still some time to find an outfit. Trouble is that now I have a lovely flat stomach, my legs look huge - when I have the left side lifted, maybe they could do something with my thighs, ... and then there's the scraggy neck....

You listen to your body, if you need rest, go for it. I'm lucky with the bike, its a sit down job and was my daughter's, I'm babysitting it, much to hubby's disgust, it takes up too much room in the lounge, but I need to watch TV when I'm peddling.

Helen, a bra fitter, wish there were more out there that have been through this, maybe we should all take it up. I just couldn't bear to go and be fitted, especially with a mastectomy scar.

Heidi, I am with BUPA and have been treated privately, please feel free to ask any questions. Have a good time in the City - the Eye is brilliant if you get a chance.

Thinking of you Tracy, still can't believe it, are you still having it at Broomfield?

Sorry if I've forgotten anyone.
Cheers

Morning all...Helen you seem brighter, thats great! And a bra fitter to boot! Are you in proper bras yet and if so how did you get measured. Think mine and Annes boob are still at the settling in stage....but not far off getting a real 'grown up' bra teehee!

Heidi..have a lovely time in London. The weather looks like its going to be good ...fingers crossed. My recon was on the NHS. They only started offering immediate recon this last 12months or so.

Tracy fingers and all crossed they don't cancel again. They can't do ...morally!!!

Morning ...Anne, Sarah, Christina, Sarah ...have a good one

Hi Heidi,

The op you are having is the LD flap, I'm hoping to have the same one soon (have been cancelled twice).

Have a lovely weekend in London, the weather is supposed to be really nice Sat and Sun. It's a fantastic city and I am lucky enough a short tube journey away (when they're running!!)

All the best,

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi everyone!

Great to hear that Lenny is thrilled with the op!

Its so great that we are all at different stages and can give advice and then support when been through different stages.

Must admit, still not up on all your abbreviations!!

If I am having an implant under the chest muscle, and then skin and muscle from my back - what is that called as an abbreviation! Am so confused with who has had or will have op same as mine. They are not sure where they are taking my skin and muscle graft from yet as for the first time in my life i have been told I am too thin for something as there is no excess fat/skin on my back or tummy! Not sure what they will do.

We are off to London tomorrow for the weekend with the kids. Saved up our tesco clubcard vouchers for the last year and it has paid for a novotel for 2 nights. The children are very excited as they have only been to london once before. It will be good to have a bit of a break.

I apologise for not remembering all your names, promise i will do so as time goes on!

I found a blue tits head in my trainer once that my cat left me - YUK!

Lots of love to you all, take it steady all of you, listen to your body and if it tells you to take it slower then do so!

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi Anne I was wondering the same thing about getting measured. My origninal boob hangs lower than the other...are there special places where you can get measured...maybe theres a market for reconstruction bras etc.
Great to hear you feeling so good. An indoor bike no less...impressed. You are going to be so happy to be the snappiest mum at the wedding ever! You go girl!
I've been lying in more these past few days...feeling more tired again...its not like I'm doing much....aha maybe thats it, not doing enough, my metabolism must be slowing down. Right more excercise and stuff to do tomorrow!
Good luck with your outfit hunting. When is the wedding?
Tracey...thats absolute rubbish news for you...isn't this the 2nd time. What are they playing at??
catch ya later

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Sarah, thats brilliant news about Lenny, thanks for letting us know, and send her cyber hugs - cherry pie and custard (amazing). You keep an eye on those ozzy bits - my PS did say that I might open up a bit with the haematoma, but up to now all ok. I took ages to heal totally after my mastectomy, over two months, but should have asked for help earlier, as nurses eventually dressed it with seaweed!! and it healed virtually overnight - so do see if they can help you.

All systems go for next Thursday Helen2 - all the best.

Helen (nell) hiya, feeling like I'm really getting there now, just not able to do heavy things and if I sit too long tummy feels very tight, but walking, using indoor bike and now wanting to start swimming, so all ok. Went to look (briefly) for outfit for daughter's up and coming wedding and felt so pleased with cleavage, and because of flat stomach tried something on that was extremely fitted, and was gutted that one boob hung lower than the other!!
Will need to get a good bra (how do I get measured?) can you imagine the woman's face in M&S when she sees my belly boob!! heehee.

Cheers everyone.

Hi Helen,

So glad you have a new date and don't have to wait too long. I don't know if you saw my post but I got cancelled again this afternoon - I am still fuming!! Apparently I am now going in on the 30th June and will - allegedly - be operated on the next day. I'll believe it when it happens.

But I'm delighted to read your good news and hope all goes well for you.

Sarah ...don't think chasing mice around counts as your excercises. I can just visualise it ! hahahahah...hope your cat took it out in the end!!
Thats great news about Lenny...the only thing I remember eating was a sandwich here and there, nothing else provided. So glad she is feeling the 'I've got two boobs and I'm loving it' feeling! If you get in touch with Lenny ..tell her we're all thinking of her and to take it real easy!!!

Thats the thing though isn't it...I find if I'm crossing a road, I'm much slower than usual.....can't run or go faster....gives you an idea what its gonna be like when we're older lol 🙂
You take good care of yourself too Sarah. Are 'they' keeping an eye on your wounds...hope so. I was lucky...I'm a good healer, no real problems.

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Just to let you know that I had a text from Lenny this afternoon and she had just eaten cherry pie and custard !
She said could I let you all know that she loves her new boob and cleavage and she also sends her love to you all.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. The sun was shining this afternoon and I decided to go for a little stroll but the next thing it started raining - it's not as if I can run for cover either !!

Just wondering how long it takes for the wounds to stop oozing a bit. I've got one bit on my tummy and a couple around the boob although not too bad. I had a flappy bit under my arm after mastectomy which the PS removed so I have a scar running up from the boob to my armpit and that still hasn't closed up completely 4 weeks later. I suppose it is because of all the arm movement.

My son and husband left home this morning and about 15 mins later I could hear noises downstairs. I stood at the top of the stairs looking down into the hall where my cat was frolicking about. The next thing he tossed a mouse into the air ! Luckily it was dead by then as I couldn't manage chasing a live one around the house !!!

Thank you all so much for your support and words of wisdom! Am feeling a bit brighter today, having young children is so fab because it makes you dig yourself out of wallowing in self pity! My husband is not overly supportive, and has pushed himself away from me through all of this, guess its a protective thing.

Anyway, dinner needs to be cooked! Lots of love to you all. xxxx

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Heidi...Anne has said it all. I went a different route, and had a mastectomy and reconstruction in one go...so one step was missed out. But I can appreciate from listening to all the girls on this thread..how very different and 'together' they now feel. I haven't been without a breast...so haven't gone through that particular feeling...but can vouch for what the others say...it is a relief and a pleasure to look down and see two breasts.
We all feel up and down...no matter how further down the track we go, its a big thing...and your confidence will grow and keep growing ....so look forward to the 'event' .{{hugs}}

Do you wear a raincoat Anne....er you know like the 'flashers' do lol hehehehehe:-) OK!...Yes I've flashed at my friends as well...my raincoat is in the wardrobe...............

Not long to go Lenny....get your raincoat ready too for afterwards. How long have they said you will be in hospital?positive {{hugs}} for wednesday

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Heidi, unfortunately this roller coaster is all part of the bc thing and heres the place to let it all out. We all know exactly how you feel and can totally relate to how the mama mia incident affected you.

I can only say that I was where you are a few months ago, wouldn't let my hubby see me, annoyed at myself for not coping when I should be happy to be here where there's others coping with so much more.

Now, 7 weeks after DIEP, and yes my confidence has returned, too much sometimes, when friends ask about the ins and outs of the op, I'm too willing to flash it all, I'm sooo proud of the results. Never realised just how much this op would mean to me, and so very pleased with myself for going for it.

It is hard to stay positive all the time, and I do try, but I am sure that when you come round from the op and look down and see a cleavage again, your life will alter.

My hubby has always been supportive whatever, but he keeps telling me just how different I am since the op, and how that smile is a very real smile now.

Cyber hugs.

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi all

Isn't funny how I am able to go from such a high to such a low. We went to the mama mia night on Friday night, and it was good fun. Me, my husband and another couple went. I went to the toilet during the evening and when I came back from the toilet, my neighbour told us that my hubby had been chatted up 3 times whilst I had gone, and that one of the women had sat on his lap and asked him if she had nice breasts because her friends had told her that she had the best pair of breasts in the building. My neighbour did not tell me it maliciously and I was not angry with him or my husband, but it was a complete trigger of downward emotions for me. I kept a smile fixed on my face for the rest of the night and then came home and sobbed for over an hour. My husband is a really attractive man, and I feel pretty upset and paranoid right now, having one breast doesn't do alot for your self esteem. He didnt ask for her to do that, and as i say i am not angry with him, but it really hurts. I want to be everything to him. I wonder if i will get my confidence back when I have reconstruction? I know that i will never be the same again, and OF COURSE i feel so lucky and grateful that i am alive etc, but sometimes i just want to curl up and think why me? why did i deserve to get this at 35? I have been constantly strong and brave and up beat but i feel really tired from keeping this face up permanently, I feel like i just want to opt out of it all for a while. So sorry to moan.

Best of luck Lenny!! Can't wait to hear how you get on.

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi all
Re the cancer thoughts - it is still very early days for some of you - Lenny, Helen - so I just want to say that the thoughts do get less as time goes on. I am 4 years down the line and don't think about it much now at all - I don't think it ever goes away completely so whenever you get a new ache or pain.....

Lenny - this time next week the worst will be over and you will be walking with a tight tummy like the rest of us !!! Have PM you.

After my day out on Friday I was wiped out on Saturday so realised I did too much. Getting a bit impatient so reassuring to read your post Helen about still being stiff after 7 weeks. Have you just started sleeping on your side after 7 weeks ? Just wondering as I am still sleeping on my back which means don't sleep so well.

Anne - enjoy Spain

My husband went back to work today so I guess it's more TV and computer time for me !
Keep well everyone

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi all... Hi Anne, yep I've realised why I didn't sleep very well last night. I used to drink about 6 very strong cups of coffee a day. In hospital all I drank was water or juice, didn't fancy hot drinks for some reason. Anway when I came out I carried that on... I only have 1 coffee in the morning as a treat. Except occasionally like yesterday when I had 1 in the afternoon. So my sleeplessness I'm putting down to the coffee....geeez what a load of waffle!
I'm not as stiff as I was when walking about...but if I over do it I become very stiff again. My mobility is much better..and because of that I tend to over do it....catch 22.
I can sleep on both sides now...but 'baby' my tender side. My tummy has gone quite hard..think thats fluid.
You enjoy yourself in spain Anne...recharge those batteries!!you deserve it!!
Lenny how great are you gonna feel with a cleavage and two boobs. You are bound to feel nervous but..one more day at home and its happening...so nearly nearly there. Go for it girl. {{hugs}} lenny!

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

A good Monday morning to everyone.

Helen, two o'clock in the morning and on the computer?? Know the feeling. I still cannot sleep on my side or tummy so don't sleep too well, having said that I did go through the night for the first time over the weekend - sound like a baby, but think it was the alcohol actually.

How stiff are you still Helen, I feel like I should be ok by now, but maybe I'm asking too much, 7 weeks on and must admit it seems ages ago.

All systems go this week Lenny, glad you had a few days to recharge those batteries. We're off to Spain for a few nights soon and I can't wait. You WILL have a cancer free day soon I assure you. Know exactly what you mean, but you've battled, come out the other side, and will by this time next week have a cleavage again. Time to kick those demons to the kerb and go for it - I'm trying to learn Spanish, kids think its hilarious. All the very best for Wednesday, will be thinking of you.

Have been gardening this weekend, still can't dig, but that's kept hubby busy. Rather nice actually, doing all the nice stuff then saying I need to rest (at a pub).

To everyone, hope you are all ok. Keep in touch.
Cheers

Hi Lenny... glad you had a good get away. Not long now eh! You poor thing, hope the bug doesn't recur! sounds like its a nasty one !!I do know what you mean Lenny. I have said something similar to my OH. When the time comes and I wake up in a morning and I'm not thinking of anything connected with cancer...thats when I'll know that I've begun to move on with my life. But steps at a time...just keep taking em !
Done quite a bit this weekend...paying the price with stiffness and tiredness...but a good nights sleep will put that right. Although I'm writing this late because I can't sleep. Still I can lie in the morning!
Goodnight or should I say morning now...to Anne,Lenny,Christina, Helen, Heidi, Tracy, Sarah and Sarah and Mary Ellen, grandad, grandma, ma and pa etc....yep I used to love Waltons Mountain Lenny heheeheheh

Have a good nights sleep all and {{hugs}}for you Lenny...soon now.

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

good evening everyone,

i have had 2 lovely nights away in a country hotel with my hubby and it was just what the dr ordered until my upset stomach from last weekend returned!! but that was just during the last night and the silver lining is that i've lost some weight! the other thing is as lovely as it was - room, food and surroundings - nothing can change your circumstances.... you know what i mean, the cancer stuff comes with you, maybe a little more distant but there just the same. i wonder if the day will ever come when i will just wake up in the morning and the only thing on my mind will be how i'm going to get all the ironing done?

and yes just 2 sleeps and i'll be in the hosp ready for wednesday morning.... thanks for all your well wishes you are the people who have inspired me to keep on with the plan.... a cleavage, how novel!

well i hope you have had a good weekend, i've spent today with my boys. tomorrow i will be winding things up etc.

so dear friends good night..christina, helen and helen, anne, heidi, sarah and sarah.... and good night john boy ( sorry if you are too young to know the waltons)

sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite!!

lots of love,

Time will help...meantime he will know...that like all good mums... you're there for him at the end of a phone!
Hi Helen..hope you hear something soon...keep your pecker up!
Hi Sarah...that is just where I went on my first outing...the garden centre. Same as you...went with full intentions of having a good look round...but after a short while was on my way back to the car. It'll happen...a few more weeks and you'll gain energy...and be more like yourself!
Hi Heidi...what brilliant news, I bet there was a big big celebration at your house....You might get the compassionate leave again, if he asks 'nicely'..fingers crossed.
Lenny not long now...hope you are enjoying your time away.
Hi Anne hope your tummy scar is recovering ok...is it still itchy. mine is. I have two fairly hard areas over my scar, can't decide if its fluid or muscle...ha..hope they know. When do you see your PS again Anne?
Hi the other Sarah hope you are recovering well too.

Its raining buckets here in Yorkshire...and a lot colder too!!

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Glad you enjoyed your trip out Sarah. It gets boring after a while doesn't it staying in looking at four walls and watching daytime tv. Feel like a talking radio times sometimes, so sick of daytime tv.

I am currently in Newcastle upon tyne at moment having brought son home today. Feels so lovely to be back here again as i lived up here for a few years when i was younger and it still feels like home. The people are so friendly. Be awful going home and leaving son here on his own. Especially now his girlfriends out of his life,

Had quite a bit of rain here today but sun is shining now even though it;s 9pm.Looking forward to going to whitley bay seaside tomorrow, might even paddle my toes.

I know what you mean about walking like a 90 year old, i do too as its sore to walk too quickly as clothes rub my side where the expander port is and that is still so sore.

Hope everyone else is doing ok and you all have a great weekend.

Bye for now from geordie land xx

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Had my first 'outing' today at lunchtime to the local Wyvale garden centre. Treated my husband to lunch and had a little wander around - didn't manage to get outside to see all the plants though, just too much. Felt rather self-conscious walking around as had to walk very slowly and slightly bent as if I was an old lady of 90!

Now sitting slumped in a chair in my conservatory with an aching tum !

Just had an almighty downpour for 15 minutes - at least it means my pots won't need watering tonight.

Hope everyone ok and enjoy the weekend even if it rains !

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi all!!

Have had a brilliant couple of days, my results from the genetic testing came back yesterday after a 4 month wait and i don't have the BRCAS 1 and 2 gene, which means I won't need a hysterectomy or a mastectomy on the left side and it means I haven't passed on the gene to my 10 year old daughter! We are over the moon and so relieved. They said I was just unlucky to get it at 35. Have decided that this is the point that my luck changes for the better, and its onwards and upwards from here on in. Get the reconstruction over and done with and move on!
Nell - its the summer holidays when I have my op so I can't pack my 2 monkeys off to school! Have asked my husband to talk to his boss about compassionate leave though, he took so much compassionate last year that not sure they will be particularly compassionate this time but we can hope!

Am off to a mama mia tribute night tonight in Southampton. Its a dinner/dance and we are going with good friends. It should be a giggle!

Weather has turned for me down south, hope that it turns back again pretty soon.

Lots of love to all

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Morning girls...its really annoying when that happens isn't it Lenny? Especially when you lose a long post! Great that you are going to get away...just what the doctored ordered and it will make your time go faster...have a great time love, you both need and deserve it! A tummy op..it could be either a tram flap or a diep..as long as you are having it...not too much difference!! So its Wed 10th. not too long now!!
Helen...hope you are managing not to be too down...know that we are all here and a good rant is soothing at times!!!

All have a great day, even though the weather is duller. I am looking after my grandson today...training day at school...can't play rugby on the field with him, so will have to stick to tv and garden games!!!

Hi all, this is easier to say as im not very good at keeping up with everyone! yes Helen was Bradford ward 19, Live in asmall village about 10 miles away. Feel a bit down today as i was due in in the morning but never mind worse things could happen so shouldn't complain!
Sorry to hear about your son Christina its so hard to see them unhappy she did not sound like a very nice girl! I also have a son who is 22 and he never leaves my side he is so protective! drives me mad but suppose at least he cares.
Not long now for you Lenny is it next wednesday.

Hi Christina...think using Nell is a good idea...did think about it myself, gets a bit confusing doesn't it? Sad about your son... doesn't matter how old they are ...they are still your little boy or girl! My son is 28yrs and he's been great through all of this...Hope you got some good clothes ... good therapy eh!!

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi Nell, if i call you by your user name won't get so confused i hope.

Glad you had a brilliant birthday, with fantastic weather to celebrate it with too.

My son is 27 and moved to Newcastle 6 years ago to be with his girlfriend. He has been really happy up there until just recently when she announced she was moving out to be with someone else.So he now has to cope with the bills, rent, the lot for their flat. Which isn't easy. Been really good to have him home for this last 2 weeks be very sad to see him go home where he finds life very lonely now living alone in a big city.

Sarah, My husband had to take a/l to be with me for my op and when i came out of hospital. I am fortunate though that my sons have all grown up and left home.Is there no playschemes in your area during the summer hols? Could you contact the organiser and ask if its possible to arrange for your children to go there with another parent?

Anne, my back gets ever so itchy round the scar and i really want to give it a good scratch but know its a good sign of the skin healing.

Anyone got any ideas of what i can do about references for a job i really want? As you may already know i was dismissed from my previous job, which i am in the process of going to tribunal regarding, so i cannot use last employer. Really want this new job but have to have references and i know ex colleagues too scared to help me out.

Re: DIEP booked 18 April - EEek

Hi all...what lovely ladies you are...thanks for all the good wishes! I had the most perfect day...a new beginning!!!

Anne I do have an itchy tummy!! Its on my scar, but mostly at the hip bones...its a good sign, new skin and all that! Just annoying!! Other than that are you recovering better. I feel like I've turned the corner and am upward bound!!!yeh

Sarah f ... Great that your OH was able to get compassionate leave...it all depends on the kind of people you work for doesn't it!
You sound to be recovering really well. I know the feeling about picking things up...you feel like an oldy..which we aint!! But guess what..get to weeks 4/5 it becomes much easier, then for me on week 6/7 I'm doing it like a 'good un'. hehehe

Lenny not long now eh! Is it next Wednesday or Thursday? Bet each day seems like a month!!!!!Sorry Lenny, is it a LCD or DIEP op that you are having? Bet your 'men' spoil you eh! Keep busy.
Hi Tracy just a couple more weeks for you too. Hope all goes smoothly.
Hi Christina ...onwards and upwards! deffo! Hope you had a really good retail shopping day. How old is your son?

Hey Helen... I remember that you were in Bradford hospital...just wondered if that was local to you? Is that where you will be going for this op? Sounds like you will be getting your date pretty soon love...good!! I had a pre op for each op I had. Only one was done a few days before...the others were done on the day. Its only the same thing over again. think they get bored doing it especially when its the same info thats already down in the notes!!!

Hi Other Sarah and Heidi..hope you are doing ok.

Happy birthday Helen hope you have had a fantastic day.
Welcome Heidi you will get lots of support and advice here.
Hi everybody, Spoke to ps secretary today she said he had to cancel due to a family matter!! Why does it have to happen to me!! Anyway she said i wont need another pre op because it will be very soon and she needed to speak to someone first. Does anyone know how long it is before you would require another pre op.
