Diagnosed Wednesday

Hi all

Another member to the club! I was told on Wednesday that I have 1st stage BC with a lumpectony and possible 4 lymph to be removed with radiotherapy a month later.  To be honest I really dont know how I am taking it… my husband is extremely upset but for the moment I seem to be holding it together. I like everyone who has been diagnosed with BC have been researching on the offical sites but there is so much to take in it is hard to get your head around it all.

I live in France so there is a bit of a language barrier as I am not fluent, but the heath care here I certainly can’s complain. I found my small lump on the 5th of January and have gone through the whole process of ultrasounds, mamagrams and biopsy, specialist and now the operation booked for 31st Jan. I have thankfully found a cancer group for English speakers and the client coordinator will be ringing me sometime today. I am 45 and don’t have children so that is a worry off my mind and I would have no idea how women with a family cope through it all and hats off to them. I do have a small alpaca farm with 7 cats so to be honest I  have something to get up for and look after which I do believe will help me through the harder times when it hits.

So would just like to say good luck to anyone who is having their op soon and glad i found this forum to be able to chat.

Hi Riverstone,

So sorry that you’ve joined the club.  It’s a lot to take in isn’t it. I suggest you take one day at a time and build up the info as you go along. It’s good that you’ve found this site so that you can read and share your feelings with others who understand.  Having had my 2 children and other medical interventions in France I can vouch for the quality of the health care there which I found exceptional.  So, on that front I don’t think you should worry.  I’ve had the op you are due and the hardest part is the emotional side, which is not easy to bear.  I can, however, say that the op itself is not as bad as I’d expected.   Firstly, you are asleep. When you come round you have so much numbing fluid you shouldn’t feel anything. Believe me.  Hope this helps allay some of your fears but keep posting. Jackie Xx
