Does Tamoxifen cause light headed/dizziness?

Hi
Just a quick question. I have been on Tamoxifen now for over 18 months. I haven’t really had many symptoms so far, which I realise is very lucky. (although recently discovered growths on my ovaries are likely to have been caused by Tamoxifen!) I had earlier ‘warmish flushes’ but they stopped over a year ago. Recently I have begun to feel a bit ‘fuzzy’ at times, not quite right. I have been putting up with it for a few weeks, but then I suddenly had a massive panic that I have brain mets! I don’t usually overact (but last night when I couldn’t sleep all sorts went through my head.) I guess I want somebody to tell me light headedness is a common side effect and I have just been lucky so far

I had BC 2 years ago, with 10 lymphnodes affected so always have a ‘spread possibility’ at the back of my mind!

Please somebody tell me dizziness is a common side effect!!!
I don’t have headaches.

Take care Nicky

Hi Nicky,
for the past two months i have been suffering the same,light-headness,surreal type feeling, and like you my mind is working overtime. I have been to my doctors twice, the first visit i had a full blood test, which came back ok and the second time he changed my brand to nolvadex D.
It has improved slightly but is by no means how i used to feel,i have only been on Tamoxifen since January.
A couple of weeks ago i stopped taking them for a week and my head felt a lot clearer.
I have an oncologist appointment in 2 weeks so i will see if they can do anything about it. But i do sympathise with you,i know how dibillataing it is, and of course naturally our minds start to wander to dark places until we can have an explanation for the symptoms.

Take care Tracey

Thanks Tracy,
that has put my mind a ease a little. I am due to have my ovaries removed in June and there was talk about me changing from Tamoxifen to something else then, so I guess I’ll just go along with the giddiness for now! It’s not too debilitating, I just feel a bit ‘different!’ (Perhaps I should stop for a week and see if it goes!)

Regards

Nicky

Hi
Phew! What a relief to read this thread. I too have been on Tamoxifen for about 16 months and recently have suffered light headedness and dizziness.I have had full blood tests-all normal. I have an appointment with GP next week to discuss this further. I have also had 3 cysts on my right ovary although at the last scan 2 had disappeared.
Thank goodness for this site where we can all discuss these symptoms and hopefully offer a bit of peace and comfort to each other!
Good luck girls.

It’s funny you should mention it but I do also get a funny feeling from time to time. It is a feeling of dizziness/light headedness but as quick as it starts, it stops again. I thought it was just me! I hadn’t considered that it may be the Tamoxifen. I have nearly done my 5 year sentence - finish in September so will see if these feelings stop.

Hi. I too have suffered from lightheadedness/fuzzy thinking and went to the Doc and had blood tests. All normal. I thought mine were possibly anxiety type attacks but I did ask Doc if was from Tamoxifen. He looked it up on and said not listed as known side effect. I also get hot sweats. Been on Tamoxifen for nearly a year and generally try and use APS. Since blood test last month I have given up all alcohol and not felt quite as bad. I see specialist next week so will be raising with him.

Hi Thanks for your help, it’s good to think that I’m not alone and not imagining things!
Take care all
Nicky

Hi everyone

I’ve been on Tamoxifen for 17 months now. Firstly the generic Tamoxifen and then because of horrendous hot flushes I changed to Nolvadex-D which is branded tamoxifen. In the leaflet which accompanies the Nolvadex-D it lists light-headedness as a side effect.

Hi All,
I have been on Tamoxifen for just over 2 years, I too suffer from light headedness/dizziness, feelings like I’ve got cotton wool in my head. I was overdosed on the chemo-therapy and since then have had problems with my nose, ears and mouth, this is what I put the light headedness down to, but maybe its the Tamoxifen, after all.

Hi Sally

What do you mean by ‘overdosed’ on chemo? Did you have a reaction? or has somebody told you you had too much?

I had 8 chemo and 33 rads, I know everyone is different, but have yet to find anybody who has had a similar amount to me (Please prove me wrong someobody?) I always wonder if too much can have caused further problems. I too still have problems with my nose (it really hurt like I was sniffing mustard on the AC part of the chemo!) but know it is very dry and sensitive and often feel ‘cold’ inside.

Regards Nicky

Hi Nicky and all

I also had 8 chemo from November 06 to March 07. I had 4xAC and 4xTax and now on tamoxifen.

I dont have any problem with light headedness but dizziness is on the list of side effects on the leaflet in the box. Hope this helps.

Hi Nicky

What I meant by overdose of chemotherapy was that they got my weight wrong by about a stone and a half, (I weighed 45 kilos and they’d written down 55 kilos) by the time they’d realised, I’d already had 4 treatments of chemo. My face went numb halfway through the treatment, and my mouth was unbelievably dry during and after the treatment, it is a bit better than it was, but I don’t think it will fully recover. I too have problems with my nose, very dry as well. Hope this is helpful to you

My 86 year old Mum has been on Tamoxifen for over a year now. She feels “dizzy” in a morning, but it usually clears as the day progresses. She takes the tamoxifen after breakfast, but the dizziness starts as soon as she wakes up.Does this pattern sound familiar to anyone else

Dizziness is a side effect. Says right on the bottle. I quit for a couple of days and no dizziness. Will talk to my dr about splitting my dose  to 2 x day 10 mg instead of 20 once a day
