Re: Don't know what to think

Have been trying to update this for weeks - so here goes again.
I received my results which were that a further 4 cancers were found in the tissue removed so I now have to have a mastectomy which will take place tomorrow (Monday 11th). Not looking forward to this at all and dread that they might once again find more bad news! Anyone else this has happened to? x

Re: Don't know what to think

Thanks all you lovely ladies, I thought that would be the case so didn't let myself get too excited!! xx

Re: Don't know what to think

most units will check the nodes by the pathologist after surgery.... however a few units will do it during surgery and if they werent clear they would do a full clearance during surgery... however the norm is to have the nodes checked by the pathologist after the surgery is complete and when you get your results appt they will organise another op to remove all the nodes if they arent clear..... sometimes this second op is a few weeks later but sometimes its done after chemo.

maybe the nurse meant the nodes they removed looked normal... but cancer cells can be microscopic and only a pathologist can detect tiny amounts.

Re: Don't know what to think

Hi

I was told at my appointment 2 weeks after surgery the results of my SNB - there are some hospitals that test whilst you are in theatre and if needed do a full clearance to save you having a second visit for further surgery - but not at my hospital. I would have thought if this was an option they would have told you about it before you went in.

I hope your nodes are clear - best of luck

Re: Don't know what to think

Hi,
from my understanding, when they examine the SNB in theatre they can only do basic tests. The Biopsy is then sent to the lab and undergoes more tests and investigations.
when i had my mx and SNB, theatre test came back positive so had full clearance at that time. Another lady had same op on same day, her SNB in theatre came back clear and nodes were left. After sending her biopsy to lab, it then came back positive and she had to go back to theatre for node clearance.
What I'm trying to say is, that its only after full lab testing that you can be sure of the results, so best to wait and see what results the surgeon gives you.
Hope this makes sence and i will keep my fingers crossed for you that it all comes back clear.
take care sharon xx

Don't know what to think

Hi everyone,

I had a WLE and and SLN surgery on 25 April. Coming round in the recovery room I was sure the nurse told me my lymph nodes had been clear, but when the doctor came to see me (I was still drowsy with the anesthetic) he just said that he would see me in 2 weeks with the results. Just wondered if anyone else had had the same experience. Thanks in advance. xx
