Effect of Radiotherapy on Lymphoedema

I am due to have three weeks rads starting 26th jan and I am concerned about the possible effects of the rads on my right arm and back which is sore and swollen(Lymphoedema) I am also worried about the likeyhood of fibrosis on my scar tissue ( masectomy last Aug )

I really don’t want any more nasty surprises as I don’t feel I was given enough information before the removal of 8 Lymph nodes when I had the masectomy.

Information / suggestions / other expereriences all most appreciated.

Thanks RR

Hi Rose

Hate posting in a rush, but didn’t want to say nothing…

Radoitherapy CAN make lymphoedema worse, but doesn’t always. It must depend, I think, on where exactly it is targeted.

You sound very uncomfortable, if you haven’t a referral to a lymphoedema clinic yet, then I urge you to jump up and down, stamp your feet, do whatever is necessary to get one asap - don’t let anyone fob you off.

Take care

Hi Bahons2
I have been to the Lymphodema clinic and have had a compression sleeve fitted which has helped a great deal. I guess I’m just getting twitchy about the side effects of the rads. I do not want any more nasty surprises!!
Thanks for your help
