Why does my friends tab get highlighted and when i click on the no it takes me to my friends page but there is no message and the friends tab stays highlighted… Not really getting its purpose.
Am i missing something?

Your friends tab is highlighted telling you how many of your friends are online at any time. Messages show on the message tab.
