Hi…I am confused as to whether it is OK to dye your hair or not…I don’t like it grey…it’s v ageing…I am unsure of hairdyes as I have read lots of conflicting advice…I remember that someone on here had knowledge of paraben free hair dyes…can anyone help pls…any advice gratefully recieved…I’m slowly moving forward and feel ready to have a new style…albeit short…a bit of colour wouldn’t go amiss either!!!..thanking in advance…apple

I have dyed mine twice now with Daniel Field - you can call them and discuss your situation, they were vey helpful and came across as knowledgeable. My Trevor Sorbie trained hairdresser but the dye on for me both times and she said she was very impressed with the quality of the product.
I coloured my hair during chemo, I too used Daniel Fields and it was easy to use and I did it myself. I ordered online but spoke to a member of staff on phone first and she said that large majority of customers used during and after chemo… It’s same price as other box colours, and has variety of colours…

I can also recommend Daniel Field, very easy to use, no smell but the colours do tend to come out very dark, so unless you want dark of course choice a light colour.

Dont know if this info will help but … I was told to wait either 6 months OR when the hair is at least and inch long , I had mine tinted at hairdresser 5 months after chemo but it was at least 2 1/2 inches by then I was one of the lucky ones who’s hair grew quickly, My hairdresser did a scalp test before and it was fine , My hair came back pure white and everyone loved it I didnt I hated it !! I have the roots done every 8 weeks now and have kept it short I love it its modern but thats just me

Yes I remember apple so pleased you managed to get your curls sorted , I was so lucky mine grew back straight and really quickly but it would never have been quick enough for me… I so prefer having hair lol x
Hi everyone…I am glad to say my lovely hairdresser lady cut my hair into a pixie style today and now it is a lovely red shade…no more grey for me for a while…found a lovely paraben and yukkies free dye in the local health shop…and now feel a lot more like myself…if that makes any sense…better than I’ve felt for a while anyway…
Sounds fab apple, if only weight was as easy to sort out as hair, i’d be a happy bunny lol , enjoy your new look

Oh god…don’ t get me statrted on the weight!!..tamoxifen has a lot to answer for…my eldest hasn’t had to buy any jeans this year…can’t get my fat a*** into mine!! gave them all to her…

I’ve recently dyed my hair 6 weeks after chemo.
My neighbour was a hair colorist for 40 years and recommended a dye that is the same as the ones they use in salons but in differet packaging. Its called nice’neasy non -permanent you MUST get the one that lasts upto 8 washes and NOT the one that lasts upto 24 washes.
Its sold only in Superdrug and Sainsburys. I found it hard to locate as it stood a little seperate from other dyes so ask if you cant find it. She said its just vegetable dye and very safe though saying that you must still do a patch test first.
She colored my hair for me we mixed 2 different browns in a pot as we couldnt decide between light and medium brown. She applied it with a brush and was ready to rinse after 35 mins. I did use the cold-cap which was partly successful so I have some longer whispy hair and about 1-2 cms underneath. It looks lovely…well as lovely as chemo hair can be Ha ha!! You can mix any colors and it will also keep in its tube.

I have used Naturtint twice now and have found it really good. A certain health food store has it on ‘buy one, get one half price’. My hair has come back grey and white and the colour from Naturtint on my hair is true to he colour on the box. It’s free from parabens and and other nasties too.
I’ve also been using the Clairol Nice N’ Easy Level 1 (8 wash) hair colour. I started about 3 months after chemo as I really hated my “Chemo White” colour 
It doesn’t contain amonia or peroxide or PPDs or PTDs, but obviously does contain other chemicals (but obviously all hair dyes have to contain chemicals in order to dye the hair). I get mine online at Superdrug (2 for £6) and one bottle is enough for several colourings (for short hair such as mine). It does seem to colour the chemo white quite nicely. However, I found the Beige Blonde only lasted a couple of washes not 6 to 8.
I am currently trying the Light Golden Brown, which is still looking fab after 2 washes. I am recording the progress of my hair dying “experiments” as well as hair regrowth on separate page on my blog.

As far as I can tell, there isn’t much difference between the cheaper temporary hair dyes like Nice N’ Easy and the more expensive “natural” or “organic” ones. There is a review of more expensive “natural” hair dyes in Choice (the Australian equivalent of Which?)

Hi not sure if you have got any advice but I called my breast care nurse and asked her, after months of using colouring mouse I was told I can dye my hair!!! but that was about 1 year after last chemo, hope this helps big hugs Heather x

My hairdresser specialises in post chemo hair and colouring. She says you shouldn’t have an all over colour until 12 months after chemo, unless it’s a 100% natural non-permanent dye. However, she says that foils are OK from as soon as there is enough hair to grab hold of- (In my case about 1.5-2cm), as the dye doesn’t touch the scalp. I researched various hair dye brands to find the most natural/low chemical/gentle. Bascially any permanent hair dye will contain some chemicals, and darker shades are more chemical laden. There’s a lot of ‘green wash’ out there, and I found that Aveda wasn’t as eco-friendly as I first thought. I settled on Organic Colour Systems as the best around for me, and it has actually improved the condition of my hair, as has the protein treatment my hairdresser uses. If you live in Devon, consider Raggamuffins in Kenton- They’ve been really helpful and I’m delighted with my post chemo hair thanks to them. I’ve also been using Intelligent Nurients styling products as a no chemical option, and they are great, although expensive.
did you find out about the hair dye would be interested. also what do you know about the parabens in hair colours my names gina first time on this site lm 6months down the track since treatment x
