I know they say use an electric shaver, but are they safe. Also do you need to cut hair shorter before using?!

I think it’s mainly about whether you have much sensation in the area. If it’s a bit numb there’s a good chance you could cut yourself with a wet razor without noticing.
I got a battery operated Phillips Ladyshave. It’s got a trimmer on the edge so that cuts off the longer hairs and then the foil sorts out the stubble. Works really well.
