Have or Had cancer?? Totally confused :-(

Hi I am in the process of recovering from a mastectomy and diep reconstruction (5 Week’s since op) I have been very lucky and don’t need any further treatment other than tamoxifen for between 5 and 10 years. The question is when filling in forms etc do i class myself as HAVING breast cancer or as HAD breast cancer. IT is all very confusing and still very new to me as i was only diagnosed in September. Please can anyone help me out .

I understand that once you have had surgery to remove the cancer, then after that you have had cancer.  Assuming there is no sign of secondaries then all further treatment is aimed at preventing a recurrence, not at dealing with existing cancer

It’s all semantics really, but in my view you are receiving treatment to prevent a recurrence, not to treat active cancer
