Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hi ladies,
We get steroids for day before tax and then the following two days. I was given 4x 8mg twice a day and was told they are for anti- rejection. I took them for FEC but not the day before. Wasn't given Emend this time, but an anti- sickness was injected into cannula before tax infusion. The time for the cold cap post infusion was only an hour this time rather than 1.5 hours. I haven't felt any nausea and have just woken after 5 hours of lovely sleep. Side effects feel much easier than FEC so far... District Nurse coming to give one injection this afternoon, then nothing until next session in three weeks.

No nausea but a lack of taste and a huge steroidy round, red face... Hey ho. Over Halfway there and probably expecting some aches and pains but the end is in sight. Good luck everyone.

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hi Ladies
Think the tablets you take before docetaxel are Steroids not sickness. I usually have Emend for nausea so it'll be interesting to see if I get them tomorrow. The domperidone is for indigestion. Hope this is helpful, I'm afraid I ask lots of questions at chemo!! Lol
Good luck ladies & big hugs xxx

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

From what I've heard people tend to suffer more from aches with tax rather than the nausea from FEC lol I thought I was getting off easy as I can handle a dodgy tum etc but near the end of my third cycle just found my legs didn't have the oomph they did!

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hi Denny, I have the same tablets for FEC but was wondering why for FEC I have 1st dose literally just before Chemo. But for Doxetaxol I have to take two doses the day before chemo and one on morning of Chemo. I was thinking 'oh no, risk of nausea must be so much worse'. But maybe not if you are doing OK. Glad to hear it. To tell you the truth I haven't suffered too badly with nausea so far so just hoping that continues.

Jax I have domperidone for sickness but really haven't had much nausea at all... Heard FEC is awful for nausea but can't say I've been bothered at all! Taken tabs for first few days just incase but to be honest I don't think I need them!

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hi to all you ladies, glad to hear you are all moving on with different treatment hope it treats you all kindly and not too many SE.
I'm carrying on with the lovely FEC and take it that i'm the only one , but it's number 4 so I'm getting there. Has anyone used Zoladex? To shut their ovaries down , I am but I get this awful pain around my groin area, Onc seems to think it's everything shutting down but it happens every month and sometimes I feel that it's so painful to walk but I'm getting chemo tomorrow so I may go and see my BCN
Anyway wish you all the best with your treatments, enjoy the beautiful weather were having at the moment.

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I do recall nurse mentioning about feeling achey all over. And wondered if nausea is going to be much worse as have been given tablets and have to take 3 doses beforehand (unlike FEC where I was given tablets literally minutes before they administered the Chemo) Oh the joys of Chemo - Can't wait to get off this roller coaster ride!

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

A lot of people complain of aches and stuff, luckily I'm not too bad but think it's cumulative - after my third one I felt my legs really achey and tired. Walking along a flat road had my legs feeling like I was walking up a real steep hill and had "burn".. It's doable but some paracetamol and ibuprofen sorted it. I have a bit of a dodgy back and that started acting up a bit if I was walking too much not sure if that's me or the tax lol

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hey guys I've just had my 4th docetaxel yesterday... I've got no experience of FEC just what folk have said about theirs.

Side effects of tax usually kick in after a few days.. I tend to get really constipated for the first few days then go the other way and get dodgy tum. I also get thrush like symptoms with real itchyness down there it can feel quite "prickly" sorry for the tmi lol!!! I've lost my taste... My mouth gets really dry and uncomfortable (got nystatin this time to see if it helps). Losing taste is the worst, everything tastes bland.. Day 1 today and went to nandos and I may as well eaten some mashed tattie lol

Hope the se's are kind girls! Much love xxx

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hi Alison and Jax,
I had my first Doxetaxol today after 3x FEC
Apart from not finding a vein, we've had to move onto my feet which was a bit tricky, the infusion delivery was fine. I had the FEC delivered manually but this took an hour in a drip. No pain. Came home, went for a walk, gardened for a bit and have just had supper. No nausea. Hurrah! We'll see what the next few days bring...
Good luck for tomorrow x

Good luck for tomorrow Alison. Do let us know how you get on with "T".  That's my next session and I have no idea what to expect or how anyone's side effect has differed from "FEC"

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Floaty tops for me too, plus new trousers! Never been so hungry in my life - don't seem to have an off switch at the moment. Don't know if it's the chemo, menopause or sheer boredom of not being able to do much. Will be hitting the salad later in the year.

Also anxious about the dreaded t. Guess we'll know in the next few days - good luck everyone. ️Xx

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

I know what you mean about floaty tops. I wore a t shirt today not a good look seeing as my expander side has been pumped up and let down so many times it looks like the last sad balloon at the childrens party. Trying to fit a sunhat over a turban, runny nose and streaming eyes, all pretence at vanity is gone!

Thank you! Hope the tax goes ok, will be interesting to compare notes about taxotere every 3wks and taxol every week for 3wks. A fortnight off for good behaviour will put me well behind everyone else.

That sounds good, lankylass. Good luck. It's reassuring there are alternatives when things go to plan.
Some of us are on round 4 this week, so good luck to everyone.
First tax for me tomorrow, after 3x FEC. Looking forward ( yeah, right) to see what it brings.
If toast and crumpets could cure cancer, we'd be on to a winner... This is the first time in my life that my tummy is bigger than my chest. Shall have to invest in some floaty tops this summer to avoid my frontage
looking like an avalanche. Looking forward to having enough energy and white blood cells to swim again.
Big hugs,
Natalie

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Well FEC3 has been scrapped as I had such a bad do with my heart and breathing, not to mention the neutropenia, and will be starting on paclitaxel every week for three weeks instead of a three weekly docetaxel regime. And hereptin if the heart echo comes back ok. Phew, was worried my treatment plan would be compromised by missing a FEC. Uderstand paclitaxel has its own set of problems though, but glad the onc is keeping an eye on me.

Evening ladies,
Haven't been on for a while 3rd chemo hit me quite hard but for the last week I've been full of energy!
It's so good to read we all have similar experiences, I too have felt very low & tearful. This time, I practically hibernated for 7 full days.
I start on docetaxil next Friday for last 3 chemoy! yay!
Sandie-Sorry you've been through worrying times but glad all good news for you!
Agree that booking things for the good days helps and I feel very spaced out at times and at points have found socialising very challengingly!!
Wishing you all a happy Easter, hugs and stuff

Have a restful weekend, lankylass. Your oncologist will be able to give you good advice. Perhaps you can reduce the strength of dosage...
Remember we're here to listen, so continue to stay in touch on this board whilst you recover

Thanks for good wishes folks. Am still poorly with neutropenia and v anaemic. Seeing onc to discuss adjustments to treatmt nxt week but wondering whether risks of continuing due to damage to body and spirit outweigh benefits. Rock and a hard place.

Hurrah! Have been thinking of you, Sandie. That's terrific, positive news!
As you say, the chemo's do-able now. The future's bright.
Leaning together makes for a really strong bridge...

How are you doing, Lankylass? Are you out of hospital?

Well, a new month ticked of the treatment calender. Lighter nights, Spring's on its way ( metaphorically for you Sandie, being on the other side of the globe)
Lots of love to everyone,

Morning ladies
Had s bad day week.. Since have FEC number 3 my breast seemed to get bigger, I called the 24hour line, they trot me an appointment with onc on Wednesday. He felt but said couldn't feel anything. Had ultrasound already booked yesterday, went to that for him to say you need CT scan. Had to wait around for that. They had 3 attempts at getting the needle. Was very shaken. Came home and opened a bottle of wine😃. Week started rubbish but ended great.
My daughter is 10 and broke you yesterday. Hurry for holidays. Hope you all have a great weekend.

O lanky thats pretty rubbish. Xxxx Isolation sucks. Much love. Got dressed first day post chemo last thursday...no idea where that week went! Funny thing was, I went to a friends shave fund raiser, made the effort to look fancy and turned out everyone wad wearing jammies as part of the fundraiser! Hilarious. 🙂 Thinking of you all. Got my mri appointment on monday, my bcn is trying to get a results appointment with the oncologist so i don't have to wait till the next chemo day to find out. Its too hard to sit in that room after bad news... and it makes the side effdcts so much worse. Ok best I go chase my children into their school uniforms and pack some lunchboxes. Yah friday Hope you go home soon lanky. Xxxx

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Worried sick, i had single mastectomy and node clearance at end of December. It feels as though I have a block of wood in my chest and that my arm down to the elbow is rubbery. As though I'm wearing a wetsuit. Symptoms are much worse for the first week after chemo.
Have been for physio and had a Lymphodema assessment and was told all is okay, but it doesn't feel good.
There is a useful booklet on this site about lymphatic massage, and doing the exercises helps, but it's a worry to me that the numbness and swelling will be ongoing...
I had full node clearance without even considering the long term effects of that. I guess we all had huge decisions to make when we were so frightened by the initial diagnosis.
Am just coming out of that horrible Post chemo week and feeling exhausted. Good luck everyone for a break before the next. Thinking of you, Sandie.

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

~Second chemo for me also wiped me out, I am finding I can cope for short times and if I overdo it I start feeling sicky.  Yesterday I went into town and did a few bits, spent about 2 hours and that was more than enough.  Shops were hot, I was hot with my hat on and started to feel sick.  I guess we just have to accept the fact that we cant do all the things our head tells us to do! Frustrates me so much, especially after a week of feeling absoloutely rubbish, once you get over that you just want to feel "normal" again, guess it doesnt work like that huh!

Like all you ladies, I admire those that have children to look after at home and those that go to work! I cant imagine how difficult that must be.

Today I am going to see my gorgeous grandson for a few hours, he is my mood changer 🙂 Hope you all have a good day xx

Re: Hello, is anyone starting chemo in February 2015?

Hi lankylass....ditto the fatigue. I didn't know anyone could actually sleep soooo much. I was relatively fine after FEC1 so it's such a surprise how much the 2nd session has affected me. Like you had 2nd session last Wed and all over the weekend and yesterday was absolutely wiped out. The thing is I jump up raring to go and then 10 minutes later I'm back lying down! Am also wondering how those with young children cope. Luckily mine can fend for themselves if necessary! I'm actually wondering whether to request home visit for PICC line because I don't actually know if I have the energy to drive
