Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Connorchloe as you know i have been down that road and it worked!

Hoping and praying for the best results for you but take it a day at a time and stay positive. You can do it xxc

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Conorchloe-  like you there was a possibility that I might have needed further treatment. The pathologist had to do extra tests and I was lucky that the results were negative and no further treatment was needed only letrozole. I truly hope that you will be the same, but if not remember you are strong and can defeat the little !!!!!!!! Waiting  is the hardest, my appointment was postponed due to the snow.  Sending you lots and lots of hugs. It’s lovely to engage with ladies who know exactly what we’re going through. Xx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Conorchloe, sorry to hear that you'll need more treatment, you just need to do what's right for you.

Chemo and herceptin is what my mum had eventhough the ornocologist was reluctant at first because of her age (68).

Have you looked at any other threads? Whatever you decide there's lots of support for you here 💓

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Well done miffy you only gone and smashed it 😊

I may have to have further treatment (chemo and herceptin) appointment to discuss on the 20th so not thinking about it until then.

They are putting me on tamoxifen too so we will be able to hopefully support and compare each other through it

Well done
CC

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Thanks so much everyone for your support. I slept very well last night. It has made a big difference to me on my journey. Sending  Lots of love and hugs xx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Miffy, that is good news 😆

Looking after those grandkids will keep you young, that's what my Mum always says and she's a BC survivor too. She's in her eighties so you've got many years ahead of you. 💓

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Oh Miffy thats amazing news delighted for you!! Well done xxx

I start Letrozole next week too and i had 50mls injected into my tissue expander yrsterday. Back next week for more.

Hope you have a lovely, relaxed night xxx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

I’m fortunate that I am retired. I’m 61. I usually look after my grand children, with my husband,  3days a week, but haven’t been able to recently. I have found that very hard. But in April, we are gradually, going to start looking after them again. XX

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

We went to porthcawl for a lovely walk and then on to The hospital this afternoon. I had very good news, no follow up treatment only letrozole for 5 years. My nurse inserted some saline into my reconstructed breast, it was fine. I go back in 2 Weeks for some more. I will have to decide what to do about a nipple for the reconstruction.  All the very best to you all, fingers and toes crossed for your progress. Lots of hugs  Xx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Thank you Helena and Roxanne. Yes the bumps are a problem as a passenger too!@

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Ali and Miffy got all my bits crossed for both tomorrow.

sharp twinges are nerve pain

i drove to the supermarket on Monday, its about a mile away. My op was on th right side, i had a thick scarf across  my breast and shoulder. It was ok. I went in the middles of the day so there was very  little traffic. My main problem is speed bumps.LOL

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Ali

Got everything crossed for you for tomorrow

Sending you loads of hugs

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

I know what you mean Miffy. My results tomorrow. Fingers crossed and prayer mats out forboth of us!! I dont have any stitches as my scar is glued. It seems to be ok at the mo. Do you get the sharp twinges - like nerve pain?

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Good thanks Ali. No more weeping but 1 stitch is still determined to stay!! Results on Thursday, I’m eagerly to know the way forward. Xx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

How are you now Miffy?

How l9ng is everyone waoting before they drive?

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Had a bit of a weep from my reconstruction side yesterday and there is still 1 stitch left, but overnight it seems to have settled. I  rang my breast nurse for a chat , as I have no other symptoms she wasn’t too concerned. They’ll have a look on Thursday.  All the best to you all. X

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Yeah i wanna just forget it all when its all over 👌 cheers to that day for all of us in this lovely club 💕

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hi CC, you're so right, if you've got your health etc, sorry I can't remember much, should've kept a diary then again maybe its better to forget - like childbirth.....

Hope you enjoy the shop, I had half a valium once (pinched it off my mum) and went on the bus high as a kite!

speak soon,  girly x

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Thanks girly. Maybe still early days for me but i still feel sore especially in and out of my tummy altho its aesthetically healing perfectly and the nurses have said theres no sign of infection. My skin feels painful to touch like on fire around the wound areas almost like when you have flu and you cant
bear to touch your skin! Im ok once tremadol and a shower have kicked in. In fact im off shopping to liverpool with my daughter today high as a kite lol!

I think im only having the flap removed later on and once they have taken that i will be symmetrical. They did an excellent job of that during mx. (I think! i havent looked in the mirror only with a bra on!)

I am sure it will be a walk in the park compared to this op and the other things youve been thro and im sure its only a day surgery op too. Try not to worry and think of that bikini bod 😊

Thanks for replying so quickly, im usually quite tough but i gotta admit this pain tummy pain is getting tbe better of me. Theres no truer saying than if youve got your health youve got everything!
Cheers CC x

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hi Conorchloe, well I had a lot of toing and froing with vac dressings for a few weeks because I didn't heal so well -  was able to drive at seven weeks so that was when my arm felt ok although it was definitely weakened for months, went back to work ten weeks but was huffing and puffing when no-one could see me and stretching up was hard.

The stomach healed really well and I was running up and down stairs within weeks but still having to stop and have rests/naps for quite a long time.

Never had much pain although I did take arnica regularly after the op, managed on paracetomol and ibruprofen. I had more pain with the vac dressing, my skin didn't do well with it.

The stomach felt fuzzy wuzzy for a long time and still does sometimes - like a huge elastic band contracting.

The reconstruction area also feels a bit weird, like I have something bulky under my arm. but no pain.

Disturbed sleep for weeks - had to sleep with the radio on low, lots of itchy skin for a few weeks so took antihistamine at night and it helped with the sleep. Plus a yucky sweet taste in my mouth for a few weeks - probably the anaesthetic.

I think you are about a month on now? and are you having the symmetry op too later on?

(i dreamt about mine last night.....)

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hi girly
Can you remember how long it was after your diep you didn't have any pain/uncomfortable. Basically when did you feel back to normal?

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hello ladies,

So sorry some of you have not had the results you were hoping for and Miffy you are still waiting too.

Whales, re feeling lopsided, don't know if your surgeon indicated your reconstruction may settle over time - this may lessen the imbalance. I felt very self conscious with a slanted cleavage for a while but after a couple of months the DIEP reconstruction had dropped and its not so noticeable.

Loose patterned tops, especially asymmetric, are good also layers and big scarves or pashminas round your neck distract the eye, The plastic surgery nurse put me forward for a prosthesis appointment which never materialised by which time I decided I didn't want to go down that route so just made do with those padded triangles and now hardly ever need them.

When are you having your reduction on the other side, I still have a few months to go but my choice.

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Thanks Ali and Whales. I’ll do my best to keep busy xx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

The dressings clinic took mine off after two weeks Ali and told me too moisturize gently for a few wks then more rigourously as time goes on and the tenderness goes away. Im using E45 moisturiser in a large pump bottle.

Ali do you know how to pm on here i may need your advice because i know youve come from another thread and been thro a lot?

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

I took my steri strips off tonight and surgeon has done a great job. Just wondering though has anyone been advised to rub any cream or lotions etc on their scars? Xc

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Miffy hope you are ok and can cope for another week xx

Roxanne my friend said amlitripyline worked wonders for her xx

Connorchloe hope you are ok tooxc

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hi Roxanne there are afew different medication on the market for nerve pain . They usually try amitriptyline , gabapentin, pregabin and the new kid on the block duloxitine all work differently.

Miffy sorry now news today for you.

Hope you are all doing well x

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hi everyone. My appointment was cancelled due to the weather today. My cancer nurse rang, so we had a chat. The results of the test weren’t back anyway. I’m a bit disappointed, but others had their operations cancelled so I’m lucky really. Another week to wait. All the very best to you all. Hope everyone is nice and warm. It’s really very snowy here. Xx

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Gabatentim is great for nerve pain Roxanne Ive had it for a different ailment. You sound upbeat 👌

Miffy how did you go with results?

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Hi had my first physio session today. I knew it would be uncomfortable but it was a lot better than i thought.  She showed me how to massage the area around my scars, which will help with my movement. I also have mild cording in my arm on the inside of my elbow, and she's shown me what to do about that. The really interesting thing was that i need i different type of painkiller so i need to see my GP again. She says that i need something that covers nerve pain, has anyone else come across this?

Re: High grade Dcis awaiting mastectomy

Conorchloe - thinking of you and your results 💓

Miffy - got my bits crossed for you too (got the idea for symbols from the radiotherapy forum. Shi uses thrm to great effect) xx
