Horrid new year waiting

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Jules am thinking of you so sorry it wasn't over for you yesterday , telling your family will be tough might be worth asking ladies on here what they did
Am sure you will get the best of care from the specialists , treatment has come so far in recent years, a close friend has been through the same treatment planned for you and she still managed to work part time and trips to the pub, sending you love and hugs xx

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Not good news from me I'm afraid. Confirmed cancer so CT scan next week, oncologist appointment the week after and then 6 sessions of chemo. That will be followed by surgery to remove the offending cells and surrounding tissue. So I now have to allow my brain to get the facts in and then I can tell my family! Can't do that until I get my head around it a bit and can talk without being too emotional! The nurse was wonderful but i haven't had the courage to open the pack of information yet. I'll take it with one positive step at a time.

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Good luck jules will be thinking of you , going stay on here for a little while as hopefully my story will go someway to reassure people during the horrid waiting time xx

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Great news - I hope I'll be posting something like this tomorrow! Getting nervous now and really want it all over so at least I know. The screening system is so good - thank goodness for the NHS.

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Fantastic news Alex! So delighted for you Xx

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Brilliant, Alex! I didn't realise the recall rate was as high as that for a first mammo. Anyway, it's so good of you to report back, as it is reassuring for others going for recalls.

That's fantastic news - so pleased for you. Take care and carry on with your great job - I think the experience you have just had will resonate in everything you do.

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Dear wonderful and lovely ladies had my appointment today and after mamogram 2 hour wait and ultra sound I got the all clear , I am very lucky, relieved and shattered .I found out that in maidstone 6 out of 10 people are recalled after first mano ( could of told me that at the time ) and also that marmo detects abnormalities not cancer and there are many reasons for abnormalities besides cancer, love you brave strong ladies you are an inspiration to all of us xxxxx

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Hi A

Well firstly you are doing a fantastic job which means supporting others - it may well take up your 'headspace' this evening which is a good thing as any distractions do help believe me! Whatever happens at the clinic tomorrow - the staff have seen it and responded to lots of ladies in our position. So what if you cry ... just take it at your pace. I really do believe that we have an inner strength that takes over when we are under such stress - and we just cope. Bizarrely I didn't cry when being given my news at the clinic - I cried more after I got the results of my op - when I sat in the pub - after getting the all clear! Thinking of you - let us know how it goes

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Thank you, am taking a dear friend , wotried I might show myself up if it's bad news and become hysterical! I got made redundant this year and now only have a fix term contract so that worries me too , tonight is opening night for .my job running a winter shelter for the homeless so going to have to try and keep it together , just want to drink wine and stay in bed and wait for tomorrow's news

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Hi Alexak

i was recalled after my very  first mammo. The letter of dread - however, it doesn't always mean bad news. It does mean some more investigation - and that could be just another Mammo for comparison. Sometimes you could have ultrasound, small biopsy etc - usually it is all done on your second visit. The staff focus on you and are fabulous. I was given lots of info by the nurse who explained all the tests. I then had to wait another week before results. The waiting was worse than the procedures. If you can take someone with you - it's a good idea - for your reassurance and for someone to hear and/or ask questions you may forget.

Take care

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Thank you ladies for your reassurance, I lost both my parents from cancer recently colon and mouth so not related but very raw, they were diagnosed a week apart so feel bad things do happen xx

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Hi Alex,

As Jobey says. Most recalls turn out to be nothing serious & if on the off chance it is bc then the sooner it gets dealt with the better & the mammo has done its job.

As it turned out I was recalled & was the 1 in 100 that did have an early bc diagnosis, now through treatment & back to life as normal. So glad I went for that mammo!  Most women do go onto make a full recovery.

Inevitably, the anxiety is horrible & the mind goes into overdrive, but it will soon be resolved.

let us know what happens

Re: Horrid new year waiting

Hi Alex, I'm sorry you have got this hanging over you and although mine wasn't due to a recall I know just how you will be feeling, it's an awful time but the majority of call backs are found to be clear especially after a first mammogram as it may well be something simple but they have nothing to compare it to, my sister and a friend has the same and one was just scar tissue and one showed up nothing unusual at all after further tests. I know nothing is going to stop your mind doing racing 100 miles an hour but try and keep positive as it's very likely to all be just fine Xx Jo
