Hi.I had a diep several months back and had micropore on all scars except for snb for 6 weeks. They was some slightly contradictory advice re bathing in it..some hospital staff staff said off every week to wash scars but i removed and retaped more often. I think the PS s prefer it as it helps minimise scarring and keloid or hypertrophic tendencies too.. I personally liked it as i didn't have to see my tum scar. Boob also covered in it , very elaborate pattern!
Hi, thank you. The nurse I saw this evening said she believes the tape may be used to reduce keloid scars. The 2 areas are healing nicely so trying just dry dressings. My partner came with me so he could see what to do re changing the dressings over xmas and what to watch out for re infection. The position of them is awkward for me to see what I'm doing as they are near the crease line. I just went to sainsburys xmas shopping with him and I am now exhausted lol so hard not being able to help him take things of the shelf, pack and unpack. That does seem unusual....through all my surgeries and my job ad a community staff nurse,we used micropore as tape to keep bandages on etc.Rarely used it next to the skin,as used to tear any area surrounding the wound.However,things change.If it does get wet,you can always replace it.It can be bought from any pharmacy.Let us know how you get on.
I hope the micropore is not directly on the wound.I presume you are using gauze....I used to change my dressings as and when.Micropore shouldn't really get wet....Have you got dressings at home?
Hi Jilly, I believe it's micro pore tape. I avoid getting the tape soaked as best as I can when I shower and dry tape with a hairdryer on cool setting. Lol I am quite the contortionist trying not to get the bust area too wet! I was surprised at how long the tape had to stay on for. I will do as told but was curious as it seemed a long time to me. Re: The inadine dressings, the nurse at the hospital was adamant they should be changed at least every other day.
What do you mean by tape??if this is dry dressings,wont do you any harm,as long as they don't get wet.A shower would be OK,not a soak.The Inadine can remain on and just be changed when dressing goes white.They can be left on a few days.I agree with you PN,does seem a long time.But,be guided by your surgeon,they deal with it all the time.
Hi, I had my mastectomy, implant and reduction to other boob on 4th dec. I had the tape changed on 19th dec and needed iodine dressings on 2 small areas that hadn't quite healed. The nurse put tape on all scar area except for iodine dressings spots and said when those heal the tape has to go over those areas. I was told I must keep the tape over all scars until I see the plastic surgeon on 19th jan. It just seems a long time to me. I know all hospitals and consultants differ so it may just be my surgeon.the practice nurse thought it strange the tape had to stay on so long.
