Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi Clare/Claredroppers and lurkers...
Lovely to catch up on all the news. Clare brilliant that you have been in the greenhouse. I would love one but can't decide where it should go back garden a bit shady.
Have been away to N Devon and I can report that bluebells are popping up. Another week and they should be in full swing. I waved to the Red Barn in Woolacombe for CM. It was raining cats and dogs!! So didn't stop for food there. (Fingers/toes etc crossed for the interview.)
Rev you are a marvel to be doing Ben Nevis. I did it when I was 21 and was aching for days! I'm going to check out your blog.
Twinky crunchy nut cornflakes are the thing to perk you up. I'm hooked on them at the moment.
I'm not at work until Wednesday so going to enjoy potting up seedlings in the conservatory. I've gone a bit mad this year as couldn't be bothered much last year. Wishing you all a day full of good things:)x

Wow, what fantastic posts! Ragamuffin you are too kind - I'm just an ordinary woman trying to deal with this stuff the way I can, like everyone else on here. I draw so much from readign everyone else's posts - laughter, courage, the 'I' word (inspiration), advice, more laughter, love, more love....

CM hope all goes well with the interview... knock 'em dead girl

Very happy to PM justgiving details to anyone who would like them; otherwise if you go to my profile info there's a link to my blog and a button on my blog to justgiving... but PLEASE no-one feel obliged to sponsor me. It is my way of celebrating being getting two years past dx (anniversary of dx is 23 August) - I am lucky, so far I'm a NED primary girl, but if nothing else this disease has taught me to lighten up and seize the day! (Unfortunately my humour and typing are not improved by it either!!)

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi Clare,
I am pleased that you get so much pleasure from your garden and although you miss big scale gardening you can achieve loads with bedding plants and pots in a greenhouse.
I grow soft fruit at the far end of the garden and one thing I really enjoy is watching the neighbours children sneak in and take the raspberries; they really think that we don’t notice and can not hear them squealing.

For the last 8 years Seagulls have nested next door and they are a nuisance, they make a lot of noise early in the morning, their droppings make a real mess and they terrorise the postman. However all this talk of crows has made me realise that the seagulls do have at least one good side, they keep the crows at bay!

CM, good luck with the interview, I hope it really helps.

Have a good day and an even better sleep everyone.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Well we had a lovely day drawing dinosaurs, looking at magnified beasties and pressing lots of buttons as well as running around touching all the things we were allowed to touch. She was soooooo excited, we could have been there for hours!! We were there for hours!!
We then took about 1 hour to get home, we had to step on all the lines on the pavements and count all the concrete squares, she got a bit mad as when she got to 140 she lost count so had to make up another game really quickly.
Brilliant Clare that you are so creative, I'm pretty bad just doesn't seem to work for me. Your cakes sound fantastic, glad you had a potter around, nice to be able to do your own thing! Hope you have a good day.
CM good luck with your interview. xx

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi Clare,
When you are finished with your garden, you are welcome around here. So much to do, I am not very good with gardens. Not too sure what to do. Still I treated myself with a couple a few trees, two apples, one plum last December. As it happen they arrive the day after my secondary diagnosis. I was not in the mood any longer when they got home. I eventually asked my husband to plant them, but I think he planted them too close to one another. Oh well. I need to find the instructions again. I think I need to bud the flowers on the pear tree in the first year.

Choccie, good luck for the interview, hope it goes well.

Ragamufin, I was thinking exactly the same thing the other. I think only RevCat would get me back into a church.

RevCat, Can yo PM me your Justgiving page?

Everyone enjoy your (rainy) day.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Morning Clare - but I hope you've had a bit more shuteye when you read this. Your day pottering, and potting, sounds just the business, especially as it must have been nice and warm in the greenhouse. Today is another story though, back to rain and STILL not very warm, hmmmmm. Oh well, as they, and I say, the garden needs it. All your cakes sound so fab, I am hopeless at anything like that so unfortunately my girls nearly always got shop bought cake, luckily there were always some Tinkerbell or other Disney ones 😉
We've had a couple of crows down our chimney over the last few years since we moved here and then suddenly we've had 2 in the last few weeks and a lot of noise coming from the chimney when they weren't coming down in. Needless to say I've had a bird guard fitted last week, just in time before they build a nest. We get a lot of different birds in our garden including lesser spotted woodpeckers and the usual green woodpecker, plus a couple of buzzards nesting near us in some high trees. It's lovely on a summers day (remember those?) to see them catching the thermals above us. And, yes, buying bird food is a priority for me as well 😉
Hi to other droppers 🙂
RevCat, I've not seen about your challenge but good luck with all the training.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi there 🐵

Unfortunately couldn't make it 3 in a row for sleeping through the night...........hey ho !

I have always made novelty cakes for the kids, they expect it now, even Jamie who is 19. Last year was the first time I ever bought a shop one as I really couldn't stand up for very long to do it. Jamie remembers each cake I have baked him but for Aisling things are a bit hazy, although Jamie remembers those too LOL.

I have done several Thomas the tank cakes, all 3d not just a motif on the top, I build them. I did the italian jobe bus hanging off a cliff, a vw beetle, lion king, the car off harry potter, snow white and the dwarfs, a light sabre........the list goes on. Am often to be found the night before icing at 4 in the morning and putting the finishing touches to a cake LOL

A possum sounds a little more interesting than a crow.......still finding bits he knocked over in various rooms.

Hi Sian, lucky you having a woodpecker......I often here one but have not seen it. At work, which was an 8 acre garden with the river Cherwell running through under the mill house, I saw several Kingfishers, absolutly stunning......blink and its gone, its so quick. It works the river side by side gradually working itself down. the other gardener at low tide went and placed a post in the middle of the river, which then it stopped at and you could see the vibrent colours better. Well done on cycling today, what an achievement for you, just work at your own pace and you will soon be flying .....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I actually did an hour and a half potting on the plants I had grown in the greenhouse, haven't done that for a good few months, it was really wonderful to escape into my mind like I used to do each day at work, really miss it as gardening was my life, hobbie and work 🐵

Sounds like we are all at the family tree stage of our lives LOL Hope you had a lovely time with your grandaughter yesterday Katy, nothing like seeing things through the eyes of a 5 year old!!!

I was reading about your climb of Ben Nevis for BCC Rev, sounds like you are doing well in the traning department. I hate walking up hill, I get very breathless and the apt description of puffing and panting sounds oh so familier 🐵 Keep up the good work.......Do you have a 'just giving' sponsor page or such like for us to support you??? PM me if you aren't allowed to post on here please.

Back to bed now, hopefully anyway

Hope you all have a great rest

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi Clare
So pleased you have slept well- yes it really does make a difference doesn't it! I googled the bird thingy you made into a cake I was most impressed- my poor daughter had shop bought cakes sculpted into Birthday Fantasies as my cake making skills were/are zilch - icing hid the truth!! Beware Ancestry it's so addictive- but I think you know that now - maybe as bad as the forums. When I was a child we had a possum in the chimney which my Dad got out with a pole and a loop of rope on the end of it -round the possum's neck. It was very pleased to scamper away when he released it outside.

Twinky glad your getting more twinkly now.

CM well done you - hope the SS take your complaints on board and act.

Cackles nice to have you back.

Revcat would like to pay tribute to you. I'm a "non church goer" but believe in and try to practise Christian principles. All the rest seems like gobbledeegook but I think you could convert even me. You are such a wonderful support to this forum and your posts are amazing. Thank you

Hi Clare,
I hope you have a lovely day in the sunshine and stock up well on goodies for the birds. I re filled all my bird feeders yesterday and was rewarded almost immediatly with a visit from a woodpecker; such beautiful colours.
I cycled to work today for the first time since finishing chemo, it took longer than it used to but I did it! Crabbit, maybe one day I will manage a Munro and meet you at the top.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hiya 🐵

Well I slept like a baby......a full night, 2 in a row now 🐵 amazing how much better you feel with uninterupted sleep, I'd forgotten what it felt like.........

Sounds a fun day out, my daughter used to love dinosaurs, she had the whole collection from the early learning centre and some cuddly ones too, I suppose it was one of the first things she drew too. Do have a lovely time, I do hope you know the difference between your stegosaurous and your T-rex:o)

Glad you are feeling a bit better having vented yourself at the SS and hope that made for a more relaxing weekend CM

Twinks????????hope all the TLC is working on you and you are a new woman and can enjoy the extra day with hubby instead of a high temp and a trip to hospital...........

Not sure what I am doing today, must go into town, dogs run out of pigs ears and birdies have no food, gotta get priorities right LOL I tend to go to pound stretcher as it is cheaper than pet shops and its out of town, so parking is easy. other than that I may do a little bit of family tree but I will do that when I get back as if I start iI will never get out 🐵

Its bright and sunny here, so I hope it brings a glimmer of a smile for those of you that are having or going through treatment this week.

Take care

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Morning

Glad to report that after a miserable weekend feeling a bit brighter now & just had a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes! Still feel quite sleepy so might have a bit more sleep before I get up.

So glad you had a good weekend Clare. I shall try & pop over for a catch up this week, the progress on the tree sounds fascinating! It really is addictive but nice because you have something to show for the time spent online. Hope you'll be digging out the calligraphy set to commit your finds to paper. Nice to have your handwriting showing the tree for years to come!

Am glad to see the sun out again as I missed it during my hibernation this weekend. Felt really blue but my mood is definitely back up again today. Sounds like CM had a good chilling weekend...may there be many more of those. Expect it helped offloading in the letter to the delightful SS!

Hugs to all

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Morning Clare, Drops & Extras,

Another cold morning here brrrrrrrr, looking up your family tree is totally compulsive, I did it a couple of years ago and then hit a dead end, wasn't sure where to go??? The most interesting thing I found was a relative in my Dad's family had a servant!!!!! YEAH!! No one was rich they worked on the land so it was a surprise. I would like to have progressed further but brain isn't able to concentrate properly at the moment.
I have my grandaughter today, she's 5, I asked her yesterday what she wanted to do today so we are off to the museum, they have dinosaurs!!
Have a good day Clare xx

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Evening all 🐵

Just a quicky as I have to get used to getting up early again with Aisling LOL

Cackles your courgette plants aren't very hardy at all, they can't really be planted out till all risk of frost has gone, late April/early May usually but hey, who knows nowerdays. I certainly wouldn't risk it for at least another week, even the wind chill factor will scorch them if it is as cold as it was on Fri/Sat.

I haven't been posting much today or doing anything apart from family tree, by the time I was worn out looking at the computer, I couldn't summon up the enthusiam to turn it back on again till now.........its totally absorbing. I dunno if I am correct but I have just found out my grandads parents didn't marry until 10 yrs after he was born and another 4 siblings, then he was killed in the war.......how odd is that, I shall have to delve deeper but all the names match and I can veiw a marriage cert........onwardss and upwards 🐵

G night all, sleep well,

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Crabbit we too visited Plockton on the Hebridean Princess two weeks ago. What a lovely place it is. The local shopkeeper who was blind was amazing when dealing with money etc. The weather was glorious and more importantly the sea calm.the holiday was the perfect end to chemo etc. Glencoe in the snow and sun was glorious.
Clare I have just dragged my courgette plants back into the house because of a frost warning. How hardy are they?
It is lovely to read the past post which I missed because of my wanderings. Congratulations on the 100+

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Clare, have had a blackbird in the house (thanks to Tigger) and the mess was unbelievable, with feathers and squeaking (me and the girls, not just the birdie!) so I can imagine the comedy with a birdie flapping around in a panic!

Lovely to hear the day went well, and that Jamie's new girlfriend is a hit. I'm feeling a bit better about stuff, now that I've written and posted a 6-page letter of complaint to SS. I have to say, I doubt it'll do any good at all, but I can but try.

Caught up with a bit of snoozing this afternoon after getting up early to watch the grand prix. Very exciting stuff. And now to dig around the freezer and see if there's anything in there for tea. I really fancy some chocolate but can't be bothered to go and get some. Probably just as well.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hello everyone,

Yes Val Plockton was magnificent, our wee cottage has now overtaken our previous favourite holiday let in Loch Ness. It was on Harbour road, stunning view of the bay from our bed. We did get across to Applecross and the boys had such fun climbing the sand dunes whilst I had kittens because Lewis was up there with them.

We supported the local economy well in gin sales thank you Clare. Well, you have to do your bit! Hopefully they will sort out gin shortage soon! snort!

The lads and I then climbed Beinn Fhada and I really struggled. Stopped at one point and lay down behind a boulder, out of the snow, but then hubby wasn't going to do the summit without me and it's his first Munro so got up and carried on. I had no idea how unfit I had become. What a wake up call. But so glad I was able to.

We had a lovely meal at the Inn too, pub quiz was cancelled on Fri which would have been fun. It was grand.

Well done on you both getting the poor crow out, life is never dull is it? I hope you did manage to get caught up on your sleep a little. Glad Aisling had a lovely day and Jamie's girlfriend is fitting in so well.

Take care lovelies. xx

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hello Clare, so glad you had a lovely day yesterday, amazing story about the crow, well done to XOH for getting him out to carry on with his little crow-life! It reminds me of a time when I had a scrabbling sound from my firepace behind the gas fire, got a neighbour who was also a gas-man to take the fire out and found a butterfly there - gas man NOT amused but at least it got out to live on (butterflies have such a short life I think) . Hope you get more zzz this morning, have a lovely day again today xx

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

G Morning everyone 🐵

Just woke up, am trying to catch up the sleep I missed out on yesterday although I slept for england in front of the TV last night !!!

After cake decorating, everyone happy with it..........phew! I went back to bed, thinking (rather sillyily) that I could sleep for another 3 hours beford I had to get up. A Crow had other ideas...........He had fallen down the chimney and all I heard for the next 3 hours was him scrabbling around. I called XOH in the end, he wasn't amused as it wasn't after 12 midday LOL. He undid the airvent and pked around with tourch and stick and said it was my imagination. We were both up by then, left the vent open and went to get coffee. Meanwhile Mr Crow got out and decided to fly around the house, knocking thigs as they went. XOH got a blancket and finally managed to get him and throw him out...........some imagination...

Aisling liked all her presents, which is a first, don't get me wrong she's never ungrateful, just never says what she wants, so we often do money or take and educated guess. She had picked out some clothers which looked great on her from mum and dad and a bag from jane. XOH bought her a lovely silver and black agate necklace and a few other bits and then lots of £10 donations LOL

The new girlfriend is nice, obviously adores Jamie and she fitted in really well at lunch where we had such a giggle. They have changed the menu, paired it down a little but it was very nice still. We left there in time for my friend coming round to do haircuts, she did Aslings and then trimmed off all the thin stragly bits....she was going to lighten up the wig too but we got sidetracked chatting with Tea LOL

By that time I was very weary but soldiered onto the first tv programme to watch and fell asleep.......then went to bed around 11.

Glad you had a good time Crabbit, wasn't the weather kind once more to you, I hope you have some gin left as I tried to buy some and they said due to a sudden rise in consumption they were out of stock......wondered if knew anything about it 🐵 Its become like the petrol Que's but for Gin!!

I hope you had a lovely time too Rev.......did you find the Gin????or is there a stash there already??????Opps your T-Total LOL

Cup of Tea drank so its off to bed again for me. Hope you all have a lovely day

I am back from my week away. So much to catch up on here and the fan club is growing.
Clare, glad your dad is doing well and that the massages are working.
CM, big hug,
Twinky, enjoy your week end of TLC.
It was great being away, spent Easter with my sisters and my mum while all the cousins 20 plus of them partied for two days 60 miles away. Almost forgot about cancer, treatment and everything around it except for you ladies. You were often in my thoughts.
Now it is back to reality, I had my first herceptin at home today. So much better than the treck to the hospital. I also started the ibrandonic tablets ( can t remember if thisis the correct name and I am too lazy to go upstairs and check.) so far so good, no indigestion, let's hope it remains like this.
On sunday, I am continuing my walk to raise money for BCC. I raised over £1000 as of today, hoping to raise more.
Take care all the Claredrops.

Morning

Hi Clare...just crawled out of bed to make a cup of tea & a sausage sandwich before steroid no.2. Am glad hubby will be back tonight so I can have a bit of TLC this weekend. He's staying Monday too which is usually my bad day with a temp spike at night. Will feel reassured he's there in case the dreaded run to the hospital needs to happen if it doesn't settle down. Glad you're getting some rest. You'll need lots of spoons this weekend with Ashy's birthday and also meeting Jamie's girlfriend. Am glad he's got a proper one to support him rather than The Drain!

I did get up showered & dressed yesterday but feel like being lazier today. Need a few more naps I think plus have a good book on the go. Pleased to report the evil emissions have settled today & there is no longer a fog in the bedroom or I think hubby would beat a hasty retreat back down south!

CM please do upload a piccie of you & the lambs as your profile picture. We've seen a round grey head for far too long! Glad you had a good time & recharged your mental batteries a bit x

G Morning one and all 🐵

Bright and sunny here and beautifully crisp........I used to love working on these sort of days, made life worth while and I used to think smuggly of all the people stuck in there offices LOL

You used to be able to get vanilla prunes in Sainsbury's but alas no longer, they are to die for!!

Don't ever think you are butting in Mavis, the more the merrier. Its the wide variety of people with different interests that makes this thread work.

A dull day yesterday, slept for a few hours at 11 as I was just exhausted, I think between them, mum and Jane really knackered me, I don't mind though as its fun while its happening 🐵

I had a call from Elaine, my oncologist yesterday re my scan. My liver has got a bit smaller, so no longer growong at such a rapid pace. I do have fluid round my lungs and round my tummy but she says that it's not much to warrent going down the rout of draining it as it will come back anyway, so I think I'll just have to resign myself look like i'm having triplets!!!!! her leaving comment was that 'didn't we have a family birthday soon?' I said yes, Aisling on Saturday and then she said its your one after that and then said goodbye LOL wasn't sure what to make of that!!

Thats a very late snowdrop Annie, I too hope its a good sign for Tuesday. GL x

I hope you don't have a hangover CM and you are over your sickness Twinky (for different reasons she quickly adds 🐵 I got very little sleep last night so gonna go back to bed and catch up on a few more zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Pleased to say the weather here today was a vast improvement on yesterday, glorious sunshine from noon through to around 4.00pm, at 5.00pm we had hailstones!

I went into Leeds Uni Library to see my former colleagues, it was my first visit post diagnosis. Everyone was so lovely, and happy to see me, a few tears were shed. It did me good; was a boost to my confidence as I'd kept putting it off. I didn't want my workmates to see me with no brows, lashes and wearing a wig......oh and being overweight. A strange feeling though, as when approaching the main building it felt like I should be going in to work. I had retired over a year before diagnosis and went in regularly to see my friends pre BC. Now the ice is broken I shall visit more often. My younger dau is a Librarian there and has been keeping staff up to date with my illness. Had a really good chat with everyone - kept them from their work! Got loads of gossip, and general info re staff and customers.

Clare, I too have prunes, usually with my breakfast...I used to HATE them and they reminded me of school dinners where they were served with rice pudding but they were in syrup, since then I've discovered the moist organic dried ones and find them palatable.

I hope you made some headway today with your family tree, and put more pieces in your jigsaw. I'm always here and willing if you need me for your genealogy research, I don't want to steal your fun, but do remember I'm here for you if you are stuck, or need help with something which isn't straightforward. Good luck.

A family Saturday lunch sounds good, Jamie's new girlfriend will love it....who wouldn't enjoy lunch with a compassionate witty lady?

Pleased to hear Twinky sounding more upbeat.

Thanks Nicky for your kind words re my 'problem'.

Ragamuffin (Diana), I've sent you a PM re family history.

CM, pleased the little lambs enchanted you, a day in the country is good for everyone. I was brought up in a rural farming area and have to go back a few times each year to get my 'hit'. That said, I'm happy now being a townie, I like convenience!

Wishing everyone sweet dreams.

Love and hugs.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Just a quick message for now as my dau had just arrived. I'll post later but wanted to thank Mavis for the link, I've ordered the magnesium oxide, in the past I've used oxypowder (pre BC diagnosis) but wasn't sure it would be safe for me to use now, but if it was approved by your Oncologist Mavis, that's good enough for me. As you said the Magnesium Oxide powder works out cheaper than Oxypowder. Thanks so much.

Diana (ragamuffin), I'll PM you later re family history.

Bye for now.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi Clare

Just had a surreal moment following a little meltdown tonight (1st Onc appointment following active treatment is due on Tues) - I went into to the garden and saw a single Clare-drop!! Not the ones I planted earlier in the year but an old one that I can't remember them ever flowering - hope its a good sign!

Hi I am a Claredrop lurker and sorry to butt into your "surreal place" Clare it seems so rude to do so,but sending a suggestion to Libsue for constipation,a remedy which had the blessing of the Oncologist during my Tax,Magnesiun Oxide bought from
http://www.a1msm.co.uk a teaspoon mixed with water or juice, really works and works out much cheaper than the American remedy Oxypowder.

Re: I am in a really surreal place.........

Hi All Claredroppers and Extras

Clare- so pleased to hear of your Dad's results and of how much the massage helped. I totally agree with what Nicky08 said about the hospice, nothing and nobody says you have to like it and want to be there. Just use it as a tool for your comfort- like using a rake to collect the leaves in Autumn. Enjoy your time with your family- happy puzzling too.

CM hope you have fun with the little white woolly things that go baa and can forget the you know who for the day. I used to spend my school holidays on a sheep farm in New Zealnd. One of my most unforgettable memories of that time was when one sheep rejected her lamb so the farmer took the skin off a dead lamb attached it to the rejected lamb and put it with the mother of the dead one. It worked because the mother then accepted it and allowed it to suckle and the skin was removed after a few days. Wonder if they still do things like that? Also remember holding bottles of milk and feeding some lambs. That all seems such a long time ago and I'd quite forgotten it until you started talking about lambs, as they say -thanks for the memories!

Libsue please could you point me in the direction of the Family History Forums as I'm at a "stuck"point. Have you tried the "Go Cake" that is reccommended on the Top Tips thread?

All the best for those being poisoned.
