Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Hope that they are working hard to rectify all these problems and perhaps we will be able to concentrate on each other and not have to navigate through the confusion of lost posts and lost messages. Val

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Some of us are trying to do something about the problems, by volunteering for a focus group. I know, not everyone wants or is able to get involved in this way, but it seems worth a try. Especially if you have been part of the previous focus groups that BCC set up for testing their earlier forums, you are in a good position because you already have contact with the webteam (you will probably have their names and/or email addresses, which the rest of us do not).
See link:

Hang in there if you can... if the Forum has helped you in any way, in the old "pink" days, remember those who have maybe had a recent bc diagnosis and have just stumbled onto this forum. It would be nice if they could find something user-friendly...

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Just keeping this thread on the front page. Being an insomniac can have its uses.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Well I am computer literate, Jeannie, and I also think this site is incredibly badly designed.

I especially agree with you about the latest posts thing - it's worse than useless. Apart from being only one page, it's not even set out properly.

Wossgoinon?

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I'm not very computer literate and am finding this new layout very difficult. I may just give up. The old site was manageable and I always got replies to my postings. I don't know what has gone wrong this time. My posting has had no replies of which I have noticed many others are in the same situation. I also didn't really know what heading was most appropriate so this may be part of the problem. Please, can someone tell me why I can only see a page of the latest postings. Is this the new layout? Does that mean if we only use the site say twice/three times a week, we lose sight of what has been going on?
Many thanks.
Jeannie

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Waving back to you Choccie. I go into the site every day but what bugs me most is the lack of feedback and understanding from those at the top. They know just how upset me feel but the feedback is poor and I worry that we will lose contact with the women who have kept this site going. If it wasn't for the knowledge of the members the site would not be what it is today.....or should I say what it used to be. I had 50 emails that I didn't request or want from BCC in my hotmail account. This has been going on for weeks now. So I sent an email to MIke this morning. Guess what? No reply. Do they really care? I would thave thought that the support we give out to so many women and men would have been more appreciated but I gather they think that donations are more important. Go to the top of everypage and there is the box. Missing lots of friends who are keeping away until this is fixed.....or will they ever return? Val

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

This is the first time I've seen this thread. Probably because it wasn't one of the 10 latest posts...

I know of several people who have left the BCC forums because of the disaster that was the "update", and that's just so sad. I also don't know how to get to some favourite threads that I used to keep track of. So if you haven't heard from me it's not because I'm deliberately ignoring you, just that somebody's nicked my map. And I got great comfort from giving support to new people (guilt complexes do have their uses!) but now I don't even see their posts so can't send words of encouragement. PLEASE fix this, WE NEED YOU!!! For goodness sake, a standard off-the-shelf package like phpBB would have been MILES better than what we have now.

June, I'll be taking a look at the latest news, but frankly I don't expect it to have a great deal of good news in there.

Friendly waves to anyone who knows me (if anybody actually sees this post if it drops out of the top 10).

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I do so agree. Having been so encouraged and supported and being able to return this in turn to the threads, now the forum seems in dissaray .
The threads are the wrong way round and the oldest is first.
Navigation around these threads is so difficult I feel sorry for newbies coming on here
Please sort this out

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I've tried and tried but i cant find my old support group. This format is bad and actually works against the people it is supposed to support. I think I will be one of those who no longer will try to get back into this site. I feel let down by those who think they have improved the service sorry You DEFINITELY HAVE FAILED. To any of my old group sorry I couldn't find you or our old forum. Sad to go after 14 months of extended love and support from you all. Chris

How long has it been now?

Five weeks, yes - five weeks since the new forum was supposed to have been ready for use.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I've been using the forums for over two years and have really struggled with this new format. One thing I find upsetting is that you don't just get the latest post, you are directed to earlier posts, and the first post, on a thread. that might not be seen as a problem, just a slight inconvenience, but it's more than that. I have found myself suddenly faced with old posts from friends who are no longer with us, which shakes me up and upsets me. Previously, if I wanted to see these, I would actively search through a thread for them, not just have it unexpectedly jump up at me. It knocks you back. And I've had my own earlier posts from difficult times pop up which I really don't want to see, unless I am looking for them. I used to check in every day or so, and have been trying hard to crack this site, but it's just not easy to navigate , it isn't intuitive, and as I have explained, it's actively upset me because of it's new structure, users are using this forum because they need support and are vulnerable. I really do appreciate the work and money and good intentions that have gone into the new forum, but please could you have a rethink ASAP? Thank you.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

. I agree with the comments here.
I was always on the "old" site but am becoming more and more frustrated with this one and feel like leavign it altogether.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I am a Techie bloke
sorry this site will have been updated by an outside
Consultancy Company I am sure and that is the problem they don't understand how
much the Ladies of this site need the companionship of their fellow Ladies,
genuinely I am livid how this site has been allowed to just meander
along with all the bugs left

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

i agree with all that hs been said. I hardly use this now and I am looking elsewhere. Why has BCC not communicated with us about noting our concerns and trying to address these- it's just radio silence

Ho Ho Ho

How many of you out there are coming up as anonymous when
you post? And how many of you have to try over and over again to post? I keep
getting mine thrown back at me BUT I WILL NOT GIVE UP.Agree totally with Kevinj .....even tho he appears to be a techie bloke.....

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Yes, it seems as though everything is back to front. Oldest posts first, topic headings a bit confusing, or is it me?! I used to just go to 'Latests Posts' and scroll down to look at anything relevant/interesting to me. Now I'm not sure what's where and who's posting. Hopefully these are just teething problems and that soon we will be able to navigate with ease. I thought the previous site looked and felt more 'friendly'.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I agree with all that has been said about this forum - it is very difficult to navigate
I have seen better amateur websites, it's not like BCC are under funded! - they
should be able to afford the best web designers for our crucial support!

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I agree with everything that as been said this new forum is absolute rubbish

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I am a project manager for a multi national IT Company, I promise you if I had been the manager of this project I would expect to be picking up my P45 this week that is the honest truth. This site is a source for ladies who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer (as if I have to tell you ladies this) but as such this abomination should have been tested then tested again, nobody knows better than me that you can't iron out every little nuance straight away but the amount of bugs within this site are horrendous and frankly scandalous.
Get it sorted these ladies do not deserve this rubbish you have served up stop making excuses and get it right.
In our company out motto is right first time what is yours, get it right maybe sometime in the future.

Am writing my posts in word and them cutting and pasting because
every time i try to post the stupid forum eats them or possible shoves them up
its own A****. Not certain which. Sorry for use of technical term but there are
times when one gets slightly masculine and not being able to get round technical stuff brings that out in me.

So this particular post was just to add my increasing moans
about this forum. My daughter ran the marathon and raised £2k for BCC – I’m
beginning to wish she had done it for prostrate cancer instead as this forum
has become a loaf of B*******.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I agre with most of what has been said. I use to come on here everyday and navigate through latest posts to catch up on everyone I know and also new members needing help and support, I feel now there are lots of women not getting the help they need because of this new site. Really miss the old site and I am thinking of giving up on this one

tHIS IS THE 6TH TIME i HAVE TRIED TO POST ON THIS THREAD.it wont work but my hands need exercise.....what is this required field that I am not using???????????????????????????

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Hear, hear!
I know this is a difficult process, and you are perhaps working on a shoestring budget, but it is ridiculous to put something up that is so unworkable. It concerns me that so many of the groups seem to be switching to facebook, and I think it should concern you. I am another who has switched to a US forum for my lymphoedema problems and solutions. What a shame.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Hi Laurie,
I so agree with you.
The new lay out is clunky and not user friendly at all. The techies have had ages to get it sorted out - how come they've made such a hash of it. I remember last time the forum was revamped there was an outcry about loosing the latest post option but this was fixed fairly quickly. How come they've made the same mistakes this time? Some might say I've been hanging around these boards too long and am getting too grumpy but I have raised money for BCC and encouraged my friends to do so too, I hate to see it being wasted in this inefficient way. Afraid I will redirect my fundraising efforts elsewhere from now on.
cheers
Caroline

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

Hi everyone I want to echo what everyone else has said about the new style forums - if 'pink' was the only reason the site was tranformed then I am really disappointed as the help and support I got from this site was second to none and the Pink thing was very very minor in all this. In my line of work if you are changing the IT systems then you get the users input in what changes/improvements are needed - if 'Pink' was the only suggestion then surely it would have been easy to get rid of the Pink stuff. Secondly before anything is launched it is 'tested'. That is real live testing for a handful of people at each stage, to get feedback on the strutcture etc. We all know that the IT people whilst they are very clever they are very good with with IT stuff and not necessarily 'people' or 'customers. There is a need to get people/customers involved in any project particularly any IT change, and particularly a site as important as this. I am sorry but it does feel that you have failed to do this and the consequence is a mish, mash unfriendly site which very few people really like or can access. Surely now common sense must prevail and you need to get a few people together in a room with the IT people and see how we can get this site up and running again so that people can use it. I am willing to volunteer for any event and willing to travel to wherever need be to get it sorted. I am sure there are others who can make time for such an important task. look forward to any responses to this.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

With all forum revamps, the owners always expect a bit of a barrage from people saying that they don't like it, can't use it, can't find anything etc. I have been a member of several foums and this has been the case, however after a while, people stop moaning and get on with it.
The difference with this forum - BCC are you listening to what people are saying? OK so now I'm going to shout because I'm not sure that you really are listening and that you're hoping that folk are just going to calm down and get on with it.
THE LAYOUT IS POOR
THERE ARE TOO MANY SUBJECT TOPICS
IT IS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO FIND PREVIOUS POSTS
THERE IS NO FACILITY TO SAVE FAVOURITE POSTS
ACTIVE TOPICS / LATEST POSTS ONLY SHOW THE MOST RECENT 10 AND GIVEN THAT'S HOW I NAVIGATE THIS POORLY DESIGNED SITE, IF I HAVE A COUPLE OF DAYS OFF, I CAN'T FIND THE TOPICS I WANT TO SEE WITHOUT OPENING LOTS OF DIFFERENT FORUMS
Sadly, I fear that what is going to happen is that a lot of people with a huge amount of experience and knowledge to impart to others are just going to walk. Personally, I spend more time on an American forum and have recently joined a private FB group made up of around 15 SBC women from this site who have become exasperated to the point of giving up.
A friend recently asked me if she should fundraise for BCC and hand on heart, I could not recommend the charity because of the state of these forums. I had so much support from the forums here after my diagnosis but now, I point others to the US site. I'd like to be able to point them here but can't until you get things sorted.
Laurie

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I too am very concerned that people will both stop using the forums and site and those newly diagnosed will not use it at all. The layout is so much more confusing - granted I have been using the invaluable forums since 2008 and am not a techie person - but why couldn't it have stayed similar to what it was and perhaps change the colour to a more purple one if pink was annoying people? I am a bone mets lady so am nowhere near as ill or struggling as loads of either primary or mets people but am running out of patience very rapidly when I lose posts or can't find updates easily. It pains me to say all this by the way......

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

i hate it too. i cant see how it has improved for the better at all.

Re: I hate this new "forum"!

I agree Sally. The pink was indeed hideous but at least the Latest Posts feature was fit for purpose, unlike this rubbish now.

It breaks my heart that people are coming here for help but don't get any replies because nobody can find their posts.

I hate this new "forum"!

Oh I do hate the new lay out. I keep going on to see if I can work my way round it but after several tries I too am joining the many who I am sure are getting more and more frustrated with it.
What I particulary dislike is the way the lay our of active and latest posts now look like the other forums of McMillan and Cancer UK - which is why I never went on them 369000 posts!!! Confusing.
My general feeling was that the old forums fault was that it was "pink stinks"
BCC gets millions of pounds to support people like us and can I tell this new forum is crap.
