Moulton Lady If you click on the picture of the person you want to 'contact directly' you can send them a direct message that doesn't appear on the public forum pages. Use the 'send a message' tab. Also, if you click on the purple button UNDER their picture you can request to add them as a friend. They will have to agree to you adding them.

If you look in 'my profile' a the top left of the screen, then 'friends' you can see tabs for friends you've requested and also people who have requested you as a friend whom you can either decline or accept.

Like Sharon, it's really nice to know that there are others wishing us well out there. I am home now and am having continued and wonderful, second to none treatment from the Breast Care team at Northampton General Hospital. I have gone through an absolute roller coaster of emotions and will be getting the final surgery results on 29th Nov which, naturally I am very nervous about but following the good advice of trying to be open minded about this.
Right now, following the mastectomy and lymph node clearance, I feel very sore and have seroma developing. Again following good advice I am going to try and work through this to avoid having this drained unless it becomes much too much of a nuisance. I think the advice of not having it drained unless absolutely necessary is good advice, to avoid the possibility of infection or having to keep repeating the draining process. I would be interested to hear others experiences re this.

(Emma - I live just around the corner from Moulton School. We seem to be sadly lacking in a 'buddies' support group in this area don't we? I wonder if the Moderator can advice how we could contact directly?)

I was diagnosed in Feb 2010 at the age of 32, and it is a huge shock at the start, but once the treatment gets underway, things settle down.
Moulton lady - I work at Moulton Secondary School- it's great to hear from somebody so local, I am in Crick. Hope your operation goes well tomorrow. I have had a very positive experience at Northampton General by the way. If you want to chat at all, let me know.

Shaz and Moultenn Lady just wanted to say hello. I have just come through what you are going through now I had my diagnosis on 1 Oct and my lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy on 30 Oct. It is difficult to take in what they are saying and the whole concept of cancer is scarey but you will get great support from people on this site and also from the staff at the hosptal. It is a very emotional time and you see saw between good and bad. Thinking of you both and hope all goes well tomorrow for you.

Hello Shazz,

Like you, this is my first post, I am newly diagnosed and will also be having my surgery tomorrow.

My cancer was picked up following a routine mammogram which showed a small suspect area, (I am 63). Then following an ultrasound and biopsy, I was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer, and a further biopsy of the lymph nodes it was found that these are malignant. So my surgery is going to involve a mastectomy and lymph node clearance.

I have to say that I still can't quite get my head around it all - I have had days where I have been strong and positive, and days when I fall apart - no different to anyone else who starts on this very unwelcome journey!

I just wanted to say, all the very best for tomorrow. It is a very intense time for us both, and sadly, many more out there, but let's be positive and determined, take one step at a time,and get through this thing.

Hi Shazz I was in the same boat in July and the worst time was waiting to know what I was dealing with. Once I knew the treatment plan which was lumpectomy and senital node biopsy to check the lymph nodes I felt a lot better. In fact we had our two week family holiday before my op which then got delayed further as the surgeon was on holiday, I felt strangly relieved that they weren't rushing it through.
I hope your appointment goes well on Wednesday and that you feel more settled when you know the plan.

Hi Shaz,
Sorry that you find yourself on here, but you will find that there are lots of lovely people on here who can help/guide/support you through your journey, of which is uncertain currently and I'm sure this is completely screwing with your emotions at this time. Many of us will completely empathise with where you are now, it truly is the worst place to be, in the waiting room.
It is difficult to cope with, and is easy for me to say this now, but try to keep yourself busy until the 14th, when you should have more information from your specialist teams. I did find listening to my ipod and singing (badly) at the top of my voice helped, plus I was diagnosed 2 days before I went on a skiing holiday, so that took my mind off the waiting for further information for a week.
The whole journey does begin to settle once you have more info and have a treatment plan in place - take someone along with you to your appointment if you can, you mind goes into overdrive and soemtimes you can forget important bits of info, and write down any questions you have now to take in with you.
I cannot say when your surgery will be, only your team can decide this.
I'm sure there'll be other ladies along to give you further advice soon.
I hope all goes well with your appointment and be gentle with yourself, come on here if you have questions or if you just need a rant or scream or even a laugh -

Hi Shaz,
welcome to the forum, sorry for your diagnosis. As everyone will tell you, the waiting for treatment plan/ treatment to begin is the worst. Everyone has their own way of dealing with it, the main way seems to be to keep busy. Me and my partner actually booked a last minute holiday and came back the day before my consultant appt. Worked for me, others have said they couldnt stand to be on holiday and have cut them short, so its each to their own.
It is all very scary, but you WILL get through it, and you will find loads of support and virtual hugs here

This is my first post i have written, i was told i have Breast Cancer last week.
I had a mamagram and scan with a core biospy done twice in the same place. I was told it was breast cancer but i won't know any more until the 14th November. When they will be booking me in for surgery to remove the lump. I will be meeting my breast cancer nurse as well.
I am very scared of the unknow which is heading my way.
I would love to hear how do you manage to cope.
