Re: I need life insurance - any ideas?

I suggest you go to an IFA who can look at different insurance companies for you or you will be forever filling in application forms. They can also call them with your medical history first to see whether the underwriters will look at covering you. They may do so but exclude cancer, or load the premiums. Good luck x

Re: I need life insurance - any ideas?

Try and look for term insurance (e.g. for 10 years, or until the mortgage is paid off and the kids have finished uni) rather than full life insurance. Do read the small print when taking out life cover: I have seen policies which covered in situ but not invasive, and policies which did not cover recurrences from a previous cancer (so you would need to develop a new primary and die of it for the insurance to kick in).

For 'in situ' stage 0 breast cancers, you should be able to get cover from providers like L&G etc. For more serious cases, Pulse Insurance are quite good. Depending on the site, stage and diagnosis, you may have to wait 2-3 years after all treatments have ended to get cover. They will load the premium however, i.e. raise it to reflect their increased risk in covering you: the loaded premium can be several times the original premium, with one or more additional zeros. However, after several years with no recurrence (generally, from the time you are considered to be 'cancer free', i.e. 10 years), the premium is lowered back down.

I use The Insurance Surgery. They were able to cover me from 1 year after treatment ended (excluding hormone therapy). I pay higher premiums for first 7 years. I was grade 3, stage 2a.

It will very much depend on your individual stage and treatment.

If the cancer was not advanced and all treatment was completed in 2009 you should be able to get cover, but at some cost.

Best thing to do is to contact a broker. Some specialise in cases like this. You can look on a website, unbiased.com which will help you find a broker, it should be possible to contact them by phone.

I need life insurance - any ideas?

When we paid off our mortgage earlier this year, our life insurance ran out. We have been delaying getting new policies, however my husband now seems to be sorted, however the company he has gone with won't insure me and have said it would be easier for me if I was over 50.
I was dx in 2009 with grade 3 BC. Full treatment regime later and I am doing well.
Anyone got ideas on who might be able to offer me insurance?
