I m not a medical person, and only speak from my experience of reading stories on here, but I've heard of this situation before. There seems to be a small number of people who have had inconclusive /failed needle biopsies ( though yours sounds particularly distressing !) and so the only course of action can be, to be on the safe side, lumpectomy removal and then biopsy on the removed tissue. OBviously if a sample can't be gained, and you've seen a specialist and they can't say for certainty what the anomaly is, then it's seen as the best course of action. I know of another lady in the last few months, who had the lumpectomy and then the biopsy showed a benign lump. You are obviously wondering...is it a form of breast cancer......and I suspect the answer is that they really don't know. They can't tell from mammogram and ultrasound with absolute certainty that it's benign, hence your booked surgery. This is horribly difficult for you I realise, many people would know by this point from the needle biopsy what the basics are of diagnosis they have (though those can change later on) , unfortunately you have to wait for the full tissue biopsy. I really feel for you, it makes it incredibly hard psychologically. Did they talk to you at all about lymph nodes, were they checked? please ask anything else you would like, we will try to help.
