Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

That's great Gus. Good luck. Fiona. How are the feet?
I can't believe that I've managed a night out on day of chemo. Had a lovely catch up with old friends. Really wasn't expecting to feel well enough to go, after three lots of vomitfest on Fec. Good old steroids! However I know that at some stage I'm going to be pushed off the train and its going to run me over!! 😳

Oh no, just typed a long reply and then deleted it with my sausage fingers. Grr!

So edited highlights!

Fiona, I love stories like your mother's - hope you had a lovely evening.

Joan, glad to hear yr back safely , fuelled by pizza. 😉

Hope everyone else is doing okay! It's great to see the early graduates.

Had a long chat with the chemo ward and they persuaded me my bloods stand a good chance of hitting the targets tomorrow, so I'm going in as originally planned to see what happens. Crossing everything on my steroid rush!

Yay, 2 diplomas, I shall frame them and put one over the loo and one over the basin in homage to where I spent most of the first cycle of chemotherapy.

I am day 8 of fec 5 and have ridden the mare, mucked out, done loads of house work, been shopping and I am still awake.   A pint of cider is beckoning now.  Xx

Thank you Fiona and sandra, it's good to hear your managing the SE ,s and although not a walk in the park you have eased my mind a little, I remember being terrified starting the FEC but as everyone says it is manageable, it's prob the fear of the unknown that is worse than the reality, sending good wishes and hugs to you all . I've been back 5 hrs and things are all ok. (Shhh! Don't say that too loud!) I think the steroids help and I've had loads of anti sickness. The onc wanted me to try Emend again so I've braved it and hoping it wasn't what made me feel so **bleep** before.
How are the other Tax ladies doing.? And cress have you avoided sickness? X

Glad to hear back from you bar girls....hope the lesser dose for Fiona & Joan does the trick!
Fiona 'hunt the vein' not good, been there a few times now & mine are shot to pieces! Hope you get some rest tonight, these steroids ate a b****r arent they?!

Pizza sounds like a good sleeping aid Joan, liking the sound of that!.x

Jayne sickness sounds bad on Tax for you, I too was told no need for anti-sickness etc with Tax, none so far but just shows we're all different & have different reactions, hope youre a lot better this time round..x

Pollyanne? (Hope Ive got that right cant scroll back!) re allergic reaction, I was v worried about this & thought bound to happen to me etc, but was told by my onc that with all counteractive drugs they give you with the infusion its very unusual to get a severe reaction, some people just need the drip slowing down if they get back pain etc when being put in. I had no reaction at all so am sure you'll be fine too. Im still getting the wbc injections same as with fec after each dose too..x

Brain bit mushed tonight, hoping that dam trucks not on its way!!...hope to catch up properly tomorrow ladies...Sandra xx

Chelle - you're a star, putting my next ( and FINAL) chemo on the list with the correct date. I didn't even ask!

NicJ, Clare and Janet - all the best for tomorrow, if I don't get back on later. (Tomorrow is my Mum's 87th birthday. She is amazing, fit and well, living independently - and she had BC 16 years ago!)

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Hi Linda

Just had my 2nd Tax today. My 3 FEC, I suffered awful nausea, but no problems with that on Tax so far, just felt a bit icky sometimes.

Sore mouth and horrid taste same with both.
Bone pain (myalgia) with Tax not too bad, bearable with Co-Codamol.
Tiredness hit on Day 3 ( like a train, with no warning).
Worse problem I had was bad reaction in feet and hands. Around day 8, feet were bright red, very hot and so painful I could hardly walk for 4-5 days. Nails very sore, that has eased off.. Palms of hand s followed on from feet also sore, but not as bad as feet. Lots of skin peeling off hands too and that is still quite bad. As a result of the feet/ hands, onc nurse and Dr decided it was a severe reaction ( quite rare) and my 2nd dose today was reduced by 20%..
One of the other JJs was the same with hands and feet and also had dose reduced by 20%.

Don't worry, everyone different with their SEs, each treatment one step closer to kicking this sh***y BC in to touch.

Take care, let us know how you get on.

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Hi everyone

Back from the bar, all ok, except for a bit of "hunt the vein"!!

Joan, good to hear you're back too. Hope we hear from Emma soon. Hope our feet and hands will hold up this time on the reduced dose and that you don't have any visits to Hotel NHS. xx

Jayney, sorry you've had such awful sickness, sounds really horrible. They should adjust Tax for next Tuesday, so fingers crossed it won't be so bad next time.

Debs, reassuring to know the marking up and tattooing not too bad, Ive got mine a week on Monday. You are our first chemo graduate and radiotherapy pioneer.

Chelle - thanks for the list and wonderful to see our first chemo graduate, Debs!

Sun shining at last, after drizzly day. I'm sofa-bound for the rest of the day, just really tired but not expecting much sleep until the steroid fest has passed.

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Hi jewels, just popped in from next door, the jj,s, just back from pre chemo app on Monday which will be last of the FEC, and the nurse was going through the poss effects of the T stuff which will be my next hurdle, she scared the bejesus out of me to be honest they sound awful!!! I know I oughtn't look to far ahead but is it common to suffer allergic reaction ( she seemed to think it was ) and as probably most of you ladies are at that stage I was looking for some advise , is the hair loss as bad ( I am cold capping at mo with fair results I suppose , although terribly thin on top) and do you still have to inject into the tummy for .5 days? Any answers would be much appreciated and hope you are all doing ok . Lynda xx

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Back from the bar and all ok so far. Surprisingly, slept fine last night, must have been a tummy full of pizza 🙂

Jayney - sorry you've been feeling so ill, I think you're right about the first dose of Tax - they give us what they think we can take but sometimes it's just too much. Fiona and I have both had our second doses reduced by 20% so I'm hoping for a better time. I had cyclizine when I was sick due to antibiotics last time - worked a treat. I was told it might give me palpitations - took me a while to figure out my heart pumping like mad was a sign of my severe anaemia instead!

Emma and Fiona, hope you're ok sweethearts, hope to hear from you later xx

Back from the tattoo parlour and all quite straightforward. Lots of breathing things going on with strange play station goggles , lol! Drawn all over in black marker pen and two little tattoos which frankly anyone would be hard pressed to find. CT scan done to establish positioning for zapping. Bring on the next stage. X

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Hi All. Have finally managed to find my way round this new site.  I don't think it is nearly as user friendly as the old one. Never mind.  I am finally feeling more normal just in time for my 2nd Tax on Tuesday.  I am hoping my dose will be reduced as I felt so sick I ended up at Hospital last Sunday begging for more anti sickness tabs as I couldn't even swallow water.   I was given Cyclizine which seems to have helped but I am dreading Tuesday and the inevitable 2 weeks of feeling so bloody awful.  I was told Tax wouldn't give me nausea so wasn't given anything on day of treatment so I was really upset when it kicked in on day 3.  Perhaps I have just been unlucky but I was told that they do give you the maximum they think you can stand on the first dose and then adjust it accordingly so I don't think we need to worry that reducing the dose will not do the job.  Apparently it is the cocktail itself that is important and they wouldn't bother giving us a dose that wouldn't do the job.  So armed with that info I will be more than happy if Onc decides to lower dose on Tuesday.  Good luck to everyone else at the bar and may your se's be little ones.  Jayneyxx

Fiona, the red lump on my scar is about the same, so hoping it will start to improve. The GP had a look yesterday and was happy it wasn't any worse, so hopefully the horse pills will start to do their work. Good to hear yours is looking better, that gives me hope!

Clare, Emma - I had awful night, hardly any sleep, blame the steroids in preparation for the bar today. Weird, restless, jumpy legs, not had that before, but they ok this morning. As usual, when lying awake, the panic demons took over my head. Clare, I think the anitbs starting to work on the red lump on my scar - looks less red and angry today, how about you?

Cress - good to hear from you. You sound not too bad so far after the FEC, hope you can keep those SEs at bay lovely. xx

OK, first of antibs taken ( empty stomach required), so shower, breakfast, lots more tablets, then heading out about 10am for the 2nd Tax (5th chemo).

Emma, Joan - let's do it, sending you both good vibes and big hugs xxxx

Morning all.

If you go to your forum profile, then click on preferences & then thread layout, you can switch the thread to oldest first. 🙂

Public service broadcast over. Hope everyone gets on ok at the bar.

Joan - glad you made the most of your extra day. I've had 1 x no alcohol wine that was like Ribena, and one that was quite good. It is weird quaffing away and not getting p*ssed though!

Cress, good luck with the FEC, the luminous pee does fade.

Everyone at the bar - best wishes. xx

I'm scheduled for the bar tomorrow (Friday) but am waiting to hear from the chemo ward first thing. Not expecting yesterday's bloods to be anywhere near enough so am hoping to persuade them to postpone me till Monday. Don't want to dose up on steroids and be cannulated tomorrow only to be sent home without getting my dose. The onc supported me on this, she said it was clear looking at my bloods I need a bit a longer than most to get up to speed (story of my LIFE haha) but I need to persuade the scheduler who in my head is a mighty sci-fi being with monstrous waving head horns ... C'mon missus, let me free up a Friday slot for you!

Morning all,

I survived the first FEC yesterday and so far, I feel a little nauseous, have a headache and the vein in my neck where my central line is looks a bit enlarged - Oh, and my pee is luminous orange!! I'm planning on a very quiet day as I've been feeling so very tired recently - even a short walk wears me out!!

Good luck to all of you at the bar today - we're getting there slowly but surely. xxx

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Emma - please join Joan and me in virtual hand- holding tomorrow. It doesn't get easier with each chemo, feeling nervous as always.

Joan - glad you've had a lovely family meal. Hope you get some sleep.

Vicki - re the tattoo dots we're getting, the radiographer had one on her arm. Don't know whether she'd had treatment herself, don't think so, maybe she just did it to show prospective parents how small it is? She was probably in her 50s, had quite a lot of freckles and the dreaded brown age spots, so the tattoo dot really looked tiny.
If the neck dot is obvious, we'll have to move in to necklace and scarf design for camouflage. Just an extension of the same issue for "I've got no hair, no eyebrows or eyelashes" - surely it won't be as obvious as that.!?!?
There's a Radiotherapy Open Evening coming up at my unit. so might mosey along so as not to be intimidated by the setting or the machines on first treatment day.

Night-night all, last steroids at 2pm, so am taking bets on how much sleep I get, if any.

I now realise why I don't like this forum. The newest used to be at the bottom. So I'd find the last post I read and go down. Now it's the other why round and I have to go up which doesn't seem natural as you have to scroll to the top of the message and read then go back up and scroll down to read! If you know what I mean!!
Anyway I'm waffling!!
Good luck follow drinkers tomorrow. I've a banging headache, must be the steroids so think i'll stick to Ribena. Am hoping I can get there with no tears but to be honest I'm a tad scared 😢
Hope everyone made it back ok today xxx

Thanks everyone. Used the extra 'feel good day' to go out for a lovely meal with my family :-).

Fiona - it is of some reassurance that we've both been prescribed 20% reduction - must be fairly standard practice and so not too much to worry about? An honour to hold your virtual about xx

Gus - has some non alcoholic red wine at my dad's as red grapes are meant to be good for us. It was okay as an alternative to water or juice but not much like the real thing!

Good night all, hope the sleep fairies visit.

Joan if it makes you feel any better I took my last lot of steroids at 5pm on day before because we were out & about & I managed to sleep reasonably well:-)

Fiona glad you've had a nice day out shopping with your daughter, love shopping days , haven't had one for a while as gone up a size & want to lose a bit after chemo(thats the plan anyway!!)
Hope the reduced dose does the trick for you & Joan....fingers & toes crossed!

Been on a mad cleaning spree today in prep for visitors on Fri, YD visited for couple days also & brought with her some Ibiza lurgy (she's just got back) hoping she hadn't passed it on!

Feel like waiting for these Tax s/e's to kick in, prob be weekend. Anyhow so far so good & no nausea & burping like with fec which is nice!

Joan- please don't be so cross with yourself. The chemo brain mush goes with the territory, we're all dong daft things and being uber-forgetful. I empathise with you feeling frustrated, it is annoying when we've all been busy women with jobs, homes, families, busy lives etc. and feel as if we're useless and everything is going pear-shaped.
It's only one day and means you're joining me at the bar tomorrow, so we can compare notes on the 20% reduction in the Tax and see how our hands and feet get on this time. Big hugs from me and telepathic hand-holding tomorrow xx

Marion- glad you getting prepared for the visitors, hope you enjoy their company and they don't tire you out. Would be interested in how you get on with the 0% alcoholic beers. Sounds as if Clare has enjoyed a few. I'm off booze too, just don't fancy it - have had a couple of glasses of wine, with about an inch of wine in them, ok but taste not normal.
Girls, you'll have to reign me in when we get to York, so much partying to catch up on.

Have had fantastic shopping trip with my beautiful daughter today. She made me buy so much stuff, delighted with all of it, Visa card has exploded. Had lovely lunch and lots of chat, going to miss her soooo much when she goes back to uni. My boys (OH and son) are lovely, but too much of the chat is sport-related, especially football, daughter just rolls her eyes when they get started.

Hope all those at the bar today and yesterday are well and batting away the SEs.

Gussie  -  Thanks for that.  May give the mixed beers a go.  Probably seems weird, but I don't like the taste of wine, red or white and it gives me a blinding headache.  Grapes bring me out in a rash so perhaps I'm allergic. Just as well I like beer and whiskey (and vodka and gin). Woman Happy

Joan, don't beat your self up - you've had a hell of a time this last cycle . I keep meaning to programme my phone alarm to tell me when to take medication, just haven't quite got round to it yet ...

Marion, I've been drinking some very palatable 0% beer and some surprisingly okay dealcoholised wine from this place:

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Joan - Sorry you have to wait a day.  When my ONC forgot to prescribe steroid for my 1st dose, they gave it to me very slowly through my canulae.  The nurse said it might give me a twitcky bottom, bit it was fine.  Wonder why they didn;t do that for you.

Thanks for all the support, it makes such a difference.  I've been shopping today to get wine and beer for my guests.  As I won't drink until chemo is finished, I felt a bit left out.  Still, not long to go now and I never did have much of a head for booze.  I've always been a cheap night out.

Dusting and hoovering to do now.

Love to everyone.

Oh bless you Joan! I'm not surprised you forgot with everything you've had in your plate! Hopefully the extra day will prove beneficial and your SEs will be little this time. My brain is total mush at the mo - if I don't put something straight in the calendar on my phone and set an alarm it has no chance of happening! I do hope for all our sakes that chemo brain clears quickly once the treatment ends!
Sending lots of love and as Vicki said - try and ride the steroid buzz and have a good time with the kids x

Re: 'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

What an idiot!!!! Went to the chemo unit and only remembered when I got there that I had completely forgotten to take any steroids yesterday or today before Tax. Chemo delayed until tomorrow. Am really kicking myself as all the plans for tomorrow are out the window now, kids will be fed up as that's part of two days instead of one they will be farmed out to their grandmother, and of course couldn't take first lot of steroids until I got back from unit (1pm) so next lot at 5pm earliest so I guess not much sleep tomight.

In my defence, I've had so much going on this cycle that I'm not surprised I forgot. At least I remembered before they gave me Tax and I collapsed with a reaction. Talk about chemo brain - this is not me anymore at all! Maybe my body needs one more day after all it's had to cope with.

I've read all your posts but I'm too frustrated with myself for now to reply. Hope everyone at the bar today is doing well. Chelle - my cycle 5 is now 29 August. Grrrrr!

Quick post before I head bed wards ... Got to remember to get up & out to GP for bloods tomorrow! Can't believe my neuts will hit the level required for tax by Friday though, based on the last 2 cycles.

Marion, sorry to hear you've been feeling low. Hang in there. Every day is another day closer to chemo being behind us.

Titus - good to hear from you.

Fiona, I'm on oral anti-biotics for a very similar potentially infected red lump on my lumpectomy scar! The op was 3 months ago.

Night all. xx

Evening all

Will try a catch-up with everyone, apologies if missed any messages, still getting used to new layout. of the site.

Had clinic today, before 2nd Tax on Thursday. Have the most enormous bruise I've ever had where bloods taken on inside of arm. Vein collapsed while blood taken, but fortunately nurse had collected enough.
After awful reaction of feet and hands after 1st Tax, 2nd dose to be reduced by 20%. Assured this is fine, as first dose bit of a guess and obviously too much for my poor self to cope with. Not totally happy with this, but assured it will still do the job.
Prescribed 2 different antibiotics as small red lump appeared on inside corner of MX scar about three days ago. Never had any bother with wounds after ops, MX was 6 months ago! Doc also took a swab, as it was leaking a little (sorry if you've just had your supper).
Also had chat with radiographer, discussed rads and possible SEs, yet another raft of lovely things which may happen to me. CT scan booked for week on Monday, when I'll also get the tattoos. Surprised I'm getting zapped just below neck area as well as where the tumour was removed - first I'd heard of that - but it is just adding more to the "insurance policy" as there are more nodes there apparently. I am now so swamped with info, I feel overwhelmed and would have signed the consent form whatever she said

Joan - thanks for the clingfilm tip, Sandra passed it on to me too. I've opted for little soft cotton moisturising socks and gloves, which I got in John Lewis, for bedtime slathering of cream. Feet are much better now, but skin on hands peeling. Re my clinic report above, I'm also on 20% reduction for the next Tax, same as you.
So sorry you back in hospital with anaemia, you are having a really rough time. Big virtual hug from me xx

Clare - you're right, it is better not being at work for now. Especially for you with such a difficult anniversary coming up, really feel for you, it must be so tough without your partner helping you through all of this. xx

Sandra - glad Tax not too bad so far and hope SEs will be kind to you. Sleep tight xx

Ann - so good the end of chemo is so close for you. Re hot flushes, I had a few just before chemo started and continue to have them, although only mild compared to others in our group.

Chelle - count me in for March in York, either date is fine. Thanks for getting us organised and getting the ball rolling. I can't wait to meet everyone, it will be amazing.

Marion - sorry you are struggling. You are nearly there with the chemo, lovely, chin up and look forward to seeing your friends and your ED.

Well, I'm done in. After long time at clinic this morning, had long lunch with former colleague. Two things in one day are more then enough. Plan outing and lunch with daughter tomorrow, make the most of it before more poison on Thursday.
.
Sleep well precious ones,

Fiona
