Just diagnosed

Just diagnosed

Just diagnosed I was diagnosed with Ductal carcinoma in situ last week. Saw
the specialist today and am now totally confused.

Because of the diagnosis it is alittle more difficult to operate
on as there is no lump as such to take out. My options are as follows

If only on right (alreay confirmed)

(1) Wide local excision (lump only) if possible
(2) If too big an area consider mastectomy

If in left (behind nipple) (still waiting biopsy result)
Central excision (taking nipple) may leave a dip
(2) If too big an area consider mastectomy

Any one been in the same position as the main end result would
be a double mastectomy. My head is swimming at the moment
so any comments would be a big help

Diagnosis Hi Carol,

Sorry to hear your news…

I am fairly new to the bc scene myself (since Feb) and I am amazed at all the different ways this awful disease can hit you - everyone seems to have a different diagnosis!

Can’t offer much help to your particular situation, but just wanted to say that the waiting around for results and such is the worst part. It’s the not knowing that’s so awful. It’s all too much to take in at first, but it does get easier once things get going. At least it was for me.

Hang in there - and best of luck with the results!

Big hugs,

Jacki xx

Take advice Carol

I was also left with various decisions to make - wide area excision or mastectomy; chemo or no chemo. and decided that I really didn’t know what was going to best for me and so always asked the surgeon or oncologist what his advice would be and then I went with that! I figured that when if wasn’t a clear ‘right answer’ - then the professional option was as good as any! Also it took the decision-making stress away which, when stress levels are high anyway - helped!

Good luck

Sally
