So sorry to hear your sad news Maria I lost my mother to cancer 3 yrs ago. I cared for her up to the end and she died peacefully at home. It is very hard for you now but keep hold of the good memories , your mother will live on through you Eileen xx

Hi Maria
just found this thread. So so sorry to read about your mum and the tough times you are going through. I hope your mum didn't suffer in the end. I lost mine at the age of 21. She had motor neurone disease and she was only 43! Life is unfair sometimes!

I'm sorry you have these losses to bear along with your own illness.

I'm glad you had time with your mother while she was still alert and you could talk. I was so glad I cancelled other holiday plans a few years ago and flew out to see my father: he was falling asleep after a short visit then, but at least he knew I was there and could talk for a short time, whereas by the next holiday period he probably would not have known me and he was gone (mercifully) before Christmas.

When you live away from your family, having even a short time together near the end is very, very precious.

So pleased you have had some quality time with your Mum. This will create such special memories for you and your sons.
I am glad your Mum is at the hospice now and they are taking care of you all. I'm sure you're able to be held by the care,support and love they give so willingly.
Accept it and feel that nurture at this most emptiest of times.

Despite the 'sleep' state of your Mum at present remember that the sense of hearing is the last sense to disappear....
I'm sure you are sharing so many happy times with your Mum by telling your son all these anecdotes....

I lost my Mum in the very same way as you 30 years ago and just reading your story here makes me shed those 'happy' tears that we are indeed lucky and priviledged daughters to have known our Mums so well....

You will survive these days through your love for your wonderful Mum, and later you will remember.......

So sorry to hear your news but glad that you managed to have some quality time with your mum.
My mum died in a hospice 11 years ago and I can clearly remember the love and care given by the hospice staff. Both you and your mother are in the best possible place.
